As much as Jessica's great to look at, her actual performance as an actress in the first movie was really average I reckon.

Alba by a country mile, she is pretty oh boy she is, I would just love to..............oh sorry (ahem) erm Alba

I think the Silver Surfer will force them all to do better this time around. He's serious business...or at least he better be.

I feel, as far as effort and passion for the character, Alba is Catherine Hepburn compared to what Gruffud is producing with his character.

I think the next one should show improvement.

@JAL

I bet she's not even an option for you...right? cuz you're too awestruck by her beauty and fail to see how awful of an actress she really is.

I voted for Alba all the way, I used to cringe at the way she delivered her lines specially during her confrontation with Doom. Her whinny voice irks me to no end. Evans needs tone down his cockyness a bit and Ion needs to grow a pair.

I don't think shes a awful actress. If anyone else was cast you wouldn't hear people complaining.

I wonder what wonder what would happen if someone else was cast, people will complain no matter what.

No if they had someone more to there likings they wouldn't. Just like if the thing was a 7 ft CGI character they wouldn't complain.

I don't have a problems with Alba herself, infact I was very happy by her casting, at that time I didn't know anything about her or seen her in any movie all I knew was that she looked the part.

^^I havn't seen anyone "Complain" about that this time around.

:)

So far it was only me and someone else mention that it would have been nice, but no complaining. :D

I think part of Jessica's problem is the contradictary nature of her character. Sue has always been portrayed as younger than Reed in the comics, so the age gap is just about right between her and Ioan. But she doesn't seem mature enough to have been Victor's director of genetic research. But I guess that's Movie Marvel bowing to Ultimate FF over the Classic FF of the comics. It would have been more credible to have her be a promising newcomer to the company, lured away on purpose by Victor just to get Reed's goat.

I really thought Reed came off as too passive throughout much of the movie so I am giving him a vote by default. It's really the script and the direction that was lacking for the characters that should have been brought to the forefront more ... Victor and Reed. These guys are Marvel's most brilliant scientists/engineers yet the script gave more emphasis to the silly romantic triangle. The only time I got a glimpse of that is the contemptuous way Julian says "Mr Fantastic" in the scene towards the end with Ben.

That's simply false and you know it,no matter who had been cast there would have been ppl who complained,it's the same with any superhero movie casting

Hunter, I simply gave my opinion. Nothing more, nothing less. I'm not trying to prove you righ or wrong man. I simply did not see an option in your poll for my opinion. So I gave it. You called it a "cop out" I explained why I felt it was my opinion. I gave my explanation of why I have the opinion I do. It is not a contradiction of anything. It's a simple opinion. Around here that is given, I think. If others think someone's performance was not great, then fine. Cool with that, I just wanted to give my opinion, and point out that I wasn't given a chance to vote, because I thought all did well. Jesus dude, opinion, has been given. Done man.

Nothing more to give. I gave my opinion, you think its a cop out and naive. Ooooh and now contradictory. Thanks again, Skippy. Don't want to get into it other than that. I'll get in trouble.:o

I had just decided to leave this but i see more "skippy" was edited in

On the first part i left the option off b/c i wanted the poll to not have an option with no discussion point or indeed and option i don't believe is true

As for the contradictory comment if you'd read my post you'd see that was in context with what you had said, nothing to do with me

Yep and that's the crux of it.

Any real professional woman is not going to be walking around with her cleavage all bouncing forth in a low-cut sweater and blouse with a Tweety-bird voice. It's just...unrealistic. You wouldn't believe how far back my eyes rolled when she showed up to wake up Reed in the lab with the "promising results". The choice of costuming for her there was such an obvious attempt at "sexpot" that she lost credibility. Eye-glasses don't make her "smart either"--that touch just reminded me of Tara Reid. Ugh. :whatever: I couldn't take her seriously.

They need to be consistent. If they had kept her dressed sharply and with sophistication as Susan's first appearance in the film suggested, it would have been a lot more believeable. It's not that the actress doesn't have it in her--I believe she does--but the people around her need to make it happen (writers, director, costume designer, etc.).

Put the hair in a bun, put some bass in the voice and own the role.

Meh. I dissagree.

If Rachel McAdams had been cast, the amount of complaints would have been drastically reduced, trust me.

Many of us always felt that Jessica was thrown in there for sheer sex appeal and nothing else. The media had us focused on several other hopefuls during the casting process, but no one mentioned Jessica Alba's name until the day before she was cast for the role. The backlash was terrible. Why? Because Jessica's never been noted for her acting ability.

To counteract the uproar, everyone on that production stressed that she was "so maternal", but all we saw was her nagging Johnny non-stop. There wasn't one ounce of motherly compassion shown...just whining. But cosmetics aside, if the writing, acting and directing of the character had been stronger, people would have shut up a la Brandon Routh or Tobey Maguire.

Instead, Jessica Alba basically did exactly what most people expected her to: window dress for 105 minutes. :whatever: I don't blame the actress entirely though. There are other factors to consider.

I think Stan Lee could've done a better job.

I put Gruffud because he's not selling the whole smartest guy in the world thing.

I strongly agree with Iron Maiden and Lightning. Alba's sex appeal needs to be toned down...shes a scientist, not a stripper. You can still look sexy and beautiful without having to show cleavage. Also the way she dresses makes the age gap between her and Reed seem much bigger. She looks far too young for him and they don't really seem like a beleivable couple. For example, the last scene in the movie were Reed proposes to Sue...Alba looked suitable..No cleavage or attempts for sex appeal but she still looked pretty

Thus is the reason why she gets cast in movies at all, that's not happening, thanks to horny teens and dirty old men. I still say her best acting work is on the TV show Flipper.
