Activision and High Moon announcing Deadpool project at SDCC

Honestly, I would not trust the reviews TOO closely. If you even remotely enjoyed X-Men Origins: Wolverine, you'll enjoy this. It sits on a plane with that and Spidey: Shattered Dimensions. Imagine that level of gameplay but with much better pacing and more consistently entertaining.
I love the Origins game, think SMSD is decent, and forgettable
Maybe the gameplay will be alright

So I got this yesterday, and pretty much everything you guys are saying is spot on. Deadpool is HILARIOUS, but everything else is rather generic.

The fighting system just feels unfinished, and the graphics aren't up to par IMO. I do like the idea of the upgrading system, I just think it should be more complex. You start out with your swords and pistols, and you can buy new weapons after killing enough people/ finding enough DeadPool coins. You can't upgrade any weapon unless you kill enough people with it, too.

And another 2.

Inside Gaming Daily 7/10

Playing for the humor and Deadpool’s banter with other Marvel characters are good enough reasons to give Deadpool (the game) a shot. The best jokes are evenly spread out and make the journey through generic levels more tolerable. Yet, if the likes of God of War and Ninja Gaiden have spoiled you with sublime and fluid framerates, Deadpool might be hard to swallow.

Official Playstation Magazine UK 5/10

In a game as average as this humour is the X-factor. For some, Deadpool elevates it; for others, he renders it nigh-on unplayable. I call it nearer the latter and – for the sake of your taste – hope you do, too. Like the main man himself, this is utterly chaotic: funny, fun, rubbish, forgettable. Sadly, the hit rate of that first attribute is too poor to save it.

I feel like what you guys are saying about the story and the humor is right up my alley. The gameplay being generic is what has me thinking I'll wait until the game drops in price before I pick it up.

If this game had 2 months more of polish it would be 7-9/10.

I dont even think the game is that unpolished. I mean its no AAA in visuals but its not bad. I also havent come across any game breaking bugs.

Like Wolvieboy said, this is one of those extremely polarizing games. In terms of gameplay alone, its a 5 or 6, but depending on your sense of humor that could go as high as a 7 or 8. I mean the gameplay isnt bad, its just nothing special. There are some great looking moves.

Iv found the game to be really enjoyable because of Deadpool. I have laughed out loud more times than i can count. Its just a zany as hell ride.

I think so man, you kinda sound like me on this situation. I mean this IS Deadpool, its just completely over the top and bats**t insane and IMO REALLY funny. As for the combat yea its fairly generic, but as you unlock more weapons and "gun fu" theres some deff fun to be had in it. But its Deadpool himself that just sets this apart. Im mid way through the game and am really enjoying the game. If you are a fan of the more insane over the top schizo Deadpool, which they really lay on thick, then yea i think you'll be pleased with the title.

Excellent! Sounds like it's exactly what I was expecting/hoping for (given all the reviews and talk).

I'm looking forward to getting it in the mail :D

Thanks for the feedback!

This!

There's some hilarious **** in this game. I've been entertained through the whole thing. As with any Deadpool content theres hits and misses with the humor (especially with Way) but for the most part I've been laughing my ass off. They don't hold back and actually get pretty creative with some things. Gameplay and level design is the draw back but it's not horrible and ruining my experience or anything.

Played the first two levels last night and so far it's pretty decent. I'm actually enjoying most of the humor so far, it can be pretty juvenile but there have also been plenty of LOL moments to keep you giggling through the gameplay. If you feel like you need to mute your TV at any point then you probably just don't like Deadpool in general.

And while the gameplay is nothing special it's certainly not terrible. Once you upgrade a few combos you get some sweet moves. The combat could have benefited from some extra polish but nothing feels broken or unplayable. It can feel a little clunky when you're fighting a big crowd. I like switching between the guns and swords, it's no DMC but it seems like you'll have lots of options once you get all the upgrades and weapons.

Good to have all of this feedback. I laughed with many of the jokes in the trailers, so I think I'll have a good time.

Or some of us just happen not to like this particular version of Deadpool, written by Daniel Way. Who can rely on nothing but silliness and outright crazy, because he's unable to write Deadpool in any other meaningful way.

Yeah... It really makes me want a sequel something wicked. I think High Moon have done really well since they clearly had a limited budget. I mean, the fact that the dev team was basically disbanded before the game was even released... I really think there's a strong base to bring out another few Deadpool games. I mean, they do some things better than any other game but I'd love to see them push the envelope. For instance, having Deadpool comment when you get achievements? A genius way to break down the fourth wall. Some of the gameplay segues between chapters are so zany and out there it makes you realise a Deadpool game could really take any format at all... I think in a way, they've really limited themselves with this one.

Also, average game or not, this is the best X-men linked game we've had in a while. It makes me crave more games treated with the same level of love towards the X-Universe. I mean sure, everyone's giving this 5's and 6's but it's still undoubtedly authentic to the comics and I would have given my right nut for a marvel game this good about 10 years ago.

And they're much better in the full game because of the set ups. If you thought the trailers were funny, you'll no doubt lol throughout the course of the full game.

Completely untrue. I have been reading Deadpool for years. Way is one writer with one version of Deadpool and honestly imo it is a shallow and boring one.

That being said, I'm not going to begrudge somebody for deriving enjoyment out of the game but if you think that it represents the definitive version of the character, and that not liking it indicates not liking DP on some basic level, then you need to sit yourself down and read Joe Kelly's run.

For something more modern, what little I have caught from Remender's writing of Deadpool also looks like he might have the best handle on the character out of any modern writer at the moment.

The thing is, even in Joe Kelly's Deadpool, there's a difference between reading a character and hearing a character and Kelly's Deadpool would have just as much potential to be grating to the ears.

Based on what I have heard thus far its less the chatterbox aspect of the character and how crude and lazy most of the jokes are that has put me off. The line where he tells the caller to talk to his dick just left me sighing so hard.

And its not like I need DP to be high brow or full of pathos, the issue where he moves in with the Great Lakes Avengers and refuses to leave had me laughing pretty hard throughout and that is a relentlessly silly romp - but I would rather the character not be so Duke Nukem-esque.

I don't think I'll ever understand why Deadpool has such a large fandom. His entire character is basically, "Hey kids, I'm breaking the fourth wall! Isn't that just CUH-RaaAaaAaaAaaAaaZZY?!"

Okay, maybe I should be a little clearer about what I said with the whole "you probably just don't like Deadpool in general" thing. I'm not pretending to be a HUGE Deadpool fan or scholar. I like him, but haven't read that much. And unfortunately, I have not read Joe Kelly's run yet (I might see if I can find some from my library). So I can't really say who I think writes the definitive Deadpool. Though I am enjoying the current book by Posehn and Duggan.

I only read a little of Daniel Way's run here and there and found a few laughs but overall I thought it was stupid and can certainly see why people have negative feelings towards him given how long he wrote his version of Deadpool. Having said that, I personally feel that Deadpool is a character (like Batman) who's open to multiple interpretations some of which are balls-to-the-walls crazy like we have here, while others are more serious and character driven. However, being semi-crazy and cartoony with lots of quips and bad jokes is still a huge part of Deadpool, no matter who's writing him.

So far, IMO, the humor in this game isn't driving me crazy or causing me to roll my eyes. Yet. I think a Deadpool game should be cartoony and over-the-top otherwise it would basically be Spider-Man with guns and swords or might feel too generic amoungst other action games. Now I feel like I should apologize to anyone who felt like I was bashing them over not liking Way's Deadpool. Perhaps part of the reason I don't mind the humor is that I never read too much of him and thus never became "sick of it" like some of you may have.

I'm just trying to say that the humor and dialogue isn't sooooo awful that people should boycoot the game for that reason. If they made a Spider-Man game written by someone like Jeph Loeb, I would certainly be upset and it might limit my enjoyment but as long as the gameplay was fun, I'd probably still play it.

Prob cuz he just looks awesome. I mean he resembles a black and red ninja. And black and red are awesome colors and ninjas are awesome. And he uses ninja swords and guns. Ninja swords are awesome and guns are awesome. Deadpool is just stuffed to the goddamn gills of awesomeness. Hes like Barney Stinson and Chuck Norris all rolled into one giant flour tortilla.

I didn't drop the comic during the Way run because he was grating on my ears.

What makes it even greater is that he stopped the end of the world in issue 25, but still, no one knows. Not even Captain America, who was there and failed.

There are many great moments like this.

I see so many people judging Deadpool for what his comics are right now, and not for his whole history. There is so much more.

As much as I want another game/sequel by another writer, it won't happen. Activision fired all the people who worked on this game pratically, and judging by some of their tweets, they LOVED deadpool. If they worked on another game, they'd just put hired guns to the task.

In other news, I'm stuck on that level
after the Blackbird crashes and I'm fighitng those two Grundy looking things. How the **** do you do this? The AI is terrible and the level design is terrible. Holy ****.

Haha those dudes arent hard at all. Just teleport from their ground pound and blast em with shotguns. They go down easy as hell.
