Actors Whose Appeal is Lost On You

For me, it's Will Ferrel. The guy plays the SAME DAMN ROLE in every film he's in, except for the 2005 version of "The Producers" and apparently Stranger Than Fiction (which I am wary about seeing). What's so appealing about seeing someone play a man-child all the time? Someone please explain it to me.

Regarding Sam Worthingtons newfound fame, I saw good on him. He's slugged it away as an actor in Australian Film and Television for years, he deserves a big break, and he's a top bloke (I've met him a few times through a friend). Who cares if he only ends up doing action films either, it's a job. I hate it when someone says "Oh that guy, he's just gonna be the next "bla bla" as a put down on the actor, when really its just Hollywood creating a culture of that, rather than the actor. The way I see it, he's been doing small, indie dramas and that for years, let him have some blockbusters lol.

I guess its just funny for me, as an Australian, having known his work for ages, but now its like because he's suddenly popped up on other peoples radars, the Hollywood has just apparated him out of thin air. So many struggling aussie actors go to L.A. to try and make it, so it's always good to see when someone does.

Or Jim cameron (which by the way, that latest vid of James yelling at the autograph hound was funny because people were defending the autograph hound who knew what flight James was on and what airport, who had an Avatar poster with him, and a video crew. This guy wasn't legit at all, so I'm glad that Jim was acting like a d*ck towards him)

I'm sure that Cameron is normally kind to fans when it comes to signing autographs, but, yeah, that guy he called a d*ck came across as a stalker to a certain extent, so I can see why Cameron declined signing the guy's poster in the first place.

Well Cameron is notorious for being cranky and so on, but I say for a Director its even more justified. Just let the man live he's freakin life, he's not an actor. He deliberately chose to work Behind the camera, christ.

Its like a really good interview I saw with Peter Jackson, saying how fame is a 2 edged sword, in that you need to earn fame, just so studios will give you more freedom with your movies, but at a loss of your own privacy and whatnot. All these guys want to do is make freakin movies lol.

I think it somewhat harkens back to that old adage of "a real man knows how to control his temper and just keeps it bottled up."

If I ever got to the height of success of James Cameron, I would be sorely disappointed if I didn't have the authority to tell people to f**k off. I already waste so much time in my life having to deal with *****e bags and f**k knuckles, surely these a level in life we can reach, where we can say "No more!"

Or do a comedy. Every actor that comes off bland or too full of themselves needs to do at least one comedy. Tom Cruise already has done it.

Good point. Tom Cruise definitely needed that cameo in Tropic Thunder to help his career and get people to like him a little more after his Scientology interviews.

Yeah but me being someone with an extremely short fuse basically knowing from experience, holding your temper inside and not letting it out every once in awhile can cause ulcers. Too much stress and tension for you body over time.

I've definitely gotten better at keeping my temper down and letting things go. Hehehe, back when my original screen name was Figmanj, I got into too many heated arguments and had plenty of warnings from the mods.

I think a really good character piece is helpful too. Something to show us that they can actually act, and transform themselves into another character. It's the difference between a Nicole Kidman, and a Cate Blanchett. You can either have someone play themselves or as another character.

Tom Cruise, Mel Gibson, Harrison Ford are good examples in they've all done their share of comedies, dramas, action movies.

Tom Cruise is a good actor, see Rainman, Born On The 4th Of July as examples, it's only because of his scientology beliefs that people view him as an oddball.

Mathew McConaughey - I never saw him as the next big thing.

I think its also partly that when an actor like that gets toa certain level of fame or notoriety, you stop seeing them as real actors. Like, say hypothetically, a movie where Tom Cruise is playing a President or something, all you see him as is President Tom Cruise...
Whereas actors like Cate Blanchett or Robert Downey Jr, who actually transform the characters to an extent where you find it hard to see traces of the actor.

It comes down to Actor vs Celebrity. Sure Tom Cruise can act, but the higher celebrity status the more it competes with his credibility.

That's why people should learn to ignore everything celebrity stuff that you might find annoying. Its so much better and you'll appreciate them more as actors.

That only works if you care about appreciating their performances.

Leonardo DiCapprio - same as Brad Pitt, all Leo does is artsy fartsy flicks that no one except his female fans want to see.

I like Leo but in his movies like The Departed, The Beach, Catch Me If You Can ect he often has a scene where he has to act panicky and he always makes me laugh when he does.

Rachel Mcadams - Really don't understand why people go nuts about her. She is a fine actress but some people act like she is the greatest actress alive.

Dane Cook - self explanatory this one.

Not at all. It comes naturally as long as you dont care about their personal life.

Its her looks.

Sam Worthington, Will Ferrell, Seth Rogan, Adam Sandler

Her acting is decent but I'm interested in her looks most of all.

I don't think any movie critic likes his movies or his stand-up routines.

This guy right here. He is the same person in every movie; a one trick pony. What he needs to do is have a role where he truly showcases some range. Will Ferrell has done it. Robin Williams has done it (and some say his dramatic roles eclipse his comedic roles). Michael Cera needs to do it.

Mark Wahlberg is finally doing one of those.

Well, you have to think that the kid is only 21 years old. He has time.

He's done things like Clark and Michael, an online series that he co-wrote and it was funny.

He has Scott Pilgrim coming up too.

Plus, besides his 'awkward' role as an actor, many actors have played the same person in every movie. John Wayne, Clint Eastwood, Bill Murray, Chevy Chase.
