Actors Whose Appeal is Lost On You

Plus, besides his 'awkward' role as an actor, many actors have played the same person in every movie. John Wayne, Clint Eastwood, Bill Murray, Chevy Chase.

That may be true but, those are all astronomically better actors than Michael Cera.

Hell, in Youth In Revolt, he plays "himself" but then there's a "completely different" version of himself in there. Think of it as the hipster Tyler Durden, but then again, it's the exact same character with a stupid fake mustache.

Well, you have to think that the kid is only 21 years old. He has time.

He's done things like Clark and Michael, an online series that he co-wrote and it was funny.

He has Scott Pilgrim coming up too.

At this pace, there will eventually be a time when his time in the spotlight is over. This is because unlike the actors you have mentioned, Michael Cera isn't loved and adored by the general audience like they were. People went to see John Wayne's movies because he was John Wayne. Nobody goes to see a Michael Cera movie because he is Michael Cera. His box office numbers aren't too high either other than Juno and Superbad and nobody went to see those movies because of him. At his age, he needs to show some range for longevity's sake since the Hollywood of today is a different one than the one from the 1980's and back.

Two actually: Date Night with Steve Carrell and Tina Fey and The Other Guys with Will Ferrell, Sam Jackson and Dwayne Johnson.

For real?! Wow, I am glad for Wahlberg for two reasons. One, because after a slew of stinkers at the box office, his career needs it. And two, because I bet he can be great comedic actor. I didn't know Samuel L. Jackson and Dwayne Johnson were in The Other Guys either. That makes me want to see that even more now.

Yeah, if people wanted to see a Michael Cera movie for the sake of a Michael Cera movie, Year One would have done better.

Yep.

Wahlberg and Ferrell play two desk cops and Wahlberg's character goes a bit overboard on a case and therefore gets demoted to desk duty alongside Ferrell. Johnson and Jackson play the badass cops who always get the bad guys.

Also stars Rob Riggle, who I bet plays a *****ebag (he seems to be great at playing that role) in the movie.

Anyway, I don't understand the appeal of Paul Walker. I'll give Vin Diesel a pass because he plays Riddick, but I don't see the appeal of Walker at all.

Paul Walker is just a pretty boy. He has yet to do one film I will like.

Hilary Swank
Jude Law
Renee Zellweger

I just don't like them. I don't know why, I just don't. I think they're fine enough actors and I couldn't tell you what they are like in person, but something about the three of them just bugs me.

Tim Allen
George Clooney
Matthew Broderick
Will Smith

Mark Wahlberg is finally doing one of those.

I Heart Huckabees was a comedy, as was The Big Hit (albeit one centered around action set-pieces).

Wahlberg isn't a newcomer to the genre.

That's silly. There's a number of very talented actors in that franchise.

Yep. Michael Sheen, Dakota Fanning, Anna Kendrick (based off "Up in the Air."). Bryce Dallas Howard and Catalina Sandino Moreno are in the next movie.

Kristen Stewart gave a good performance in Speak
and the guy who was the vampire dad is funny on Nurse Jackie (But I dont like that show)

Will Ferrel. I liked him on SNL and a few of the movies he's been in (especially Anchorman). But lately he's just been terrible.

Okay, first of all, telling me my opinion is silly completely negates the whole purpose of this thread, which is essentially people you don't like that alot of other people do. Obviously my opinion here is based on how the world wide appeal of the Twilight movies is lost on me.

Secondly, i'm talking about the appeal of those actors in conjuction to the Twilight series...People are so obsessed with it all and I don't get it... Sure people like Michael Sheen can act, but I don't think all the die hard twilight fans are going to watch Frost/Nixon because they loved his character in New Moon.

Peter Facinelli. He's good. :yay:
Yeah, he is. The guy who plays Caius is also pretty good. He was in Sweeney Todd and is playing young Grindelwald in Deathly Hallows.

I also think Ashley Greene who plays Alice is pretty good too, she seems to be the person in the films trying along with Lautner.

Ashley Greene is the best thing about the Twilight movies. :yay:

To be fair, there are a lot of talented actors in the Twilight movies, but the material is so bad not even Gary Oldman could save it.

Yeah, it is hard to gauge an actor's ability when they're in a crap film. But I do have to agree that the majority of Twilight fans out there aren't going to see some of Michael Sheen's more impressive work since he played a character in that franchise. They likely don't know (or even care) who he is because he's not a 16-22 year old heartthrob.

Regarding Superferret's "I hate Christian Bale because he looks like an ***hole" comments... wow, thanks for proving a point I was trying to make in another thread. My general theory behind the reason so many people hated him in Terminator Salvation was because 1. they hadn't gotten over the rant incident and 2. his character wasn't given anything interesting to do. Mainly though, I think it was the rant since most of the characters in that movie were written poorly (and yes, even Worthington's, even if you don't want to believe it).

Personally, I don't think that verbally flying off the handle classifies you as a Grade A dick. And even if it does, it has nothing to do with your acting ability. But I think that if you're going to write off an actor because they've flipped out in public once or have an "***hole face," then you should probably just give up watching movies altogether because actors are human and the majority of them have probably all done something in their lives that would piss you off. But since they're not playing themselves onscreen, it shouldn't matter.

^^ Agreed.
A good example of that is Heath Ledger, who was constantly cracking the ****s with paparazzi, or journos. Didn't make him any less of a great actor, or hell, didn't even make him any less of a nice guy. To people like him, or Bale, acting is a chosen profession because they enjoy it, or are passionate about it as an art form.
All the white teeth smiling uber friendly *****ebags of Hollywood HAVE to be nice and smiley, because they can't act to save themselves and popularity is all they have to keep them in a job.
