The Force Awakens Adam Driver as Kylo Ren

I laughed at the scene where he is having a rage moment, and the Storm Troopers walking outside the room he is in quickly turn around and walk the other way.

That scene had people in my audience cracking the heck up. Kylo's rage moments were great. Anakin was unhinged during his formative years but I felt as Darth Vader he was much more subdued.

Kylo Ren was essentially in Darth Vader's role at a much younger age so we essentially see all these horrific yet childish tantrums unfold. It was pretty great.

they made it pretty obvious how much he wants to be his grandfather right down to the fact it seems he would want to lead a clone army.

Even though that was said as a jab at Hux I do honestly think Plagueis Snoke and Kylo want to create another Clone army. Both of them saw that strategy as successful as it was a winning move for Darth Sidious in regards to eventually creating the Galactic Empire.

The bottom line is, prequel Anakin is not who I was expecting for a young Vader. Anakin as described in the OT, (and granted, as I imagined in my head) was a gallant hero, tough, smart, resourceful and took the wrong path. The prequel Anakin we got was the opposite of that and lent no credence to respect and fear he garnered in Eps IV - VI.
At least we got to see that version of Anakin in the Clone Wars cartoon.

And I think living with what he did is going to be harder than he realizes. And he can’t take it back.

It made me think of Naruto and how a certain character felt they needed to do something similar to gain more power.

I was thinking about Han and Leia's conversation and then it hit me. It was essentially what happened. Crazy student kills other students, parents try to deal with it and their relationship takes a hit.

You could also apply "Beautiful Boy" to him it too a little bit.

Kylo Ren was a great villain in TFA. He was entertaining & ****ing scary at the same time.

Now Adam Driver gets to be hated for his character's actions. I wonder how he feels.

It speaks volumes to how good he is. That Girls show I never watched but heard he is a high point.

That and the officer who had to report to him taking off his hat and seeming nervous as hell got the chuckles going in my audience.

Villains are supposed to be menacing not funny.

I dont remember any jokes played at the expense of any previous Star Wars villain (Vader, Emperor, Maul, Dooku, Sidious, or even Anakin after he turned)

He's not a true villain yet. He's a petulant kid trying to be.

Villains should be as diverse as heroes. Kylo Ren is a different type of villain. I like the unstability he brings.

I'd say that there's more to it than that, The Joker being a good example. Really, villains can be anything the heroes can be, it all boils down to how well written they are, and if the performance manages to sell it.

Great villains can be both menacing AND funny, it just depends on:

-How you do it.
-What kind of character they are.

Someone above already mentioned the Joker. But others could include, Loki, Green Goblin, The Master from Doctor Who, Silva from Skyfall, etc.

Humors a good thing especially for the bad guys.
