The Force Awakens Adam Driver as Kylo Ren

Honestly, those referring to Kylo Ren as 'Emo' should be barred from seeing future films.

He was emotionally unstable and trying to purge himself of the light. Proving himself to his dead grandfather.

There was nothing emo about him whatsoever.

Exactly, it's called pathos.

I think they were portraying the weaknesses of the dark side, particularly for young practitioners who rely on the anger and rage; true anger and rage is something you can't artificially create, and it's usually still tied to other emotions, and by its very nature it can destroy your concentration. Kylo's just pushed himself through murdering his father, and he's trying to force some rage through pain via his wound and focusing on Finn's defection; he's emotionally exhausted, still in turmoil, and also trying to capture Rey since he knows he's screwed up.

He's still far from Vader's controlled fury, and he shows it.

Definitely not a Vader copy-cat, he really had a different reason for wanting to be respected. Gotta give it to Driver delivered in more so than Hayden Christensen.

I agree with that, I loved how he played him with his emotions, he wasn't in control. I just thought he was a little inconsistent and he was very weak in the finale, injured or not.

To be fair I think a plank of wood would have delivered more than Hayden Christensen :funny:

I'm really not, I don't disrespect peoples opinions saying they're wrong for disliking something. If people make factual errors that's another thing but opinion is opinion.

That's pretty much how I feel. Facts are one thing but taste is taste. Ultimately, If you're so bothered by someone not liking something or agreeing with you on something that you insult them, you really need to get a life.

Ultimately , how you responded to it is what matters the most. and if you're that hung up on someone not responding the same way , then that says more about you, then about the other person.

I thought he was great. My biggest complaint is his thinly written motivation to hate his father so much. But that doesn't speak to Adam's performance of the character in general IMO.

We haven't even learned much about how or why he turned to the dark side, or how things "ended" between him and his parents -- all things that I'm sure will be expanded upon in future films.

 great and very well put post

I just thought it was to show he was emotionally childish at times. So, if he gets angry/annoyed, he's going to throw a temper tantrum as a way to vent. It didn't get that way for him while fighting and I don't think he'd allow himself to do that too.

Yeah, that's what I took it as as well. He's a poser trying to be a bad*** like Vader, but he's really childish and petulant. He wants so badly to be all evil and all powerful but he has light in him and he considers that a weakness.

That a good description, agree 100%.

Despite what I think of them ruining him a but at the end and the inconsistencies; I do think Adam Driver did a great job and overall I did like Kylo.

I never was impressed with Driver till I seen him in this. The nuances in his performance, right to the end, were great. Given where he is at in the end, he will be closer to his grandfather, colder, possibly mechanical.

When it comes to the final fight, I really like the idea that kylo ren is still in his training.

He was also gutshot, too. People seem to forget Chewie took a bite out of him.

And I think that's why he did what he did to Han. Probably thought if he did that, there really is no turning back.

I wonder if he'll keep using his "vader themed mask"in ep 8 or if he'll build a new mask/helmet with a more unique look, which would describe his evolution visually. That is of course depending on how he evolves.

I think they had Rey scar his face to help him evolve his own look.

I really hope he keeps the same mask because it looks perfect, plus I already have too much merchandise of that design. :o

I like that he doesn't need the mask like Vader, but he's doing because he's such a fanboy.

I'm sure he'll have a new mask in the next movie now that his face is somewhat deformed. Also, Disney will want to sell new merchandise to suckers like me.

A new mask in the sequel could be cool, aslong as they adapt the current mask into something, I don't think he'd want a whole new mask. Given his love for Darth Vader I wonder if he'd adjust it to make it a little more Vader like.

I'm not seeing the connection; why would that have something to do with it? His helmet covers his entire face anyway.

It was quite refreshing to have a villain who was so flawed, out of his element and erratic like Kylo Ren is. Don't get too many villains like that.

I'm interested in seeing who the other knights of Ren are , and if they are other fallen Jedi from Luke's academy. I'd really love to see a female Sith.

On a second note, any theories as to why he fell to the darkside to begin with? Was just a thrist for more power in the force? Was it over a lost love? Anyone dare to take a guess?

I think Adam Driver should be insulted that people are comparing him to Hayden Christiansen at all.

:o

I'm thinking parental neglect. Leia was busy setting up the New Republic and Han may have been struggling to cope with Ben's force sensitivity that when both Leia and Han decided to send him to Luke he saw that as a form of abondement.

Luke was probably caught up in restoring the Jedi that he treated his own nephew more like a student than a family member, so Kylo started to take form by having one way conversations with granpapa Anakin and looking up to him as a father figure allowing Snoke and any other agent involved to persuade him to follow the dark side.

That's what I think at least.

It was weird how much Adam Driver actually could be Harrison Fords kid. In the bridge scene he really looked much like Harrison Ford. Must have been the lighting giving him a better jawline. I never saw any resemblance to Ford while he was on Girls.

It lines up, I like it.
