The Force Awakens Adam Driver as Kylo Ren

I agree, too many people missed obvious point of "You are supposed to feel that way about him". It's funny (and lame at the same time) to hear people refer to him as Emo, given he is supposed to be emotionally unstable. I just think people try to use that word as a hip description of Kylo Ren, it pretty much comes off like your Dad using the word Emo to describe something.
Yea, I didn't get an emo vibe from him at all. I definitely saw emotional...immaturity isn't the word. Stunted maturity. I'll go with that. He's definitely lost inside himself. And it showed. Driver did a great job making a 6'-something dude with crazy ass powers and a dark presence seem like he was a suffering boy more than a man. Like he's embraced the anger, yet he's conflicted with the Light and can't quite grasp the hate, yet still seems to be skipping over to suffering, like Yoda said about Sith order of one leading into one another. He's unique.

Interesting. From what I've seen/heard, he's one of the most praised elements about the film.
Don't get me wrong, I've heard praise, too. It's just that negativity can sometimes sound the loudest on the internet.

He has a great voice for the role. Even without the mask I thought he sounded cool.

I loved when he was [BLACKOUT]talking to Han. He changed between his softer Ben voice and his more darker Kylo Ren voice.
[/BLACKOUT]

He's literally a Vader fanboy and wants to be him.

I finally got just why the hell Abrams picked Driver out of anybody to play this part. I just never got it. What was so special about him to cast him as the next SW villain? Abrams didn't try to cast a villain, he cast a person trying to be a villain and Driver not only pulls it off, but has created the most interesting villain I've seen in a long time. I just never expected this kind of villain for SW but it is so brilliant after Vader.

Yeah, I agree. At first I didn't like his temper tantrums but now I think they work for that reason. I hope we see him get trained in the next episode. Like the dark side version of Luke/Yoda. Parallel him him with Rey's training.

Did anybody else get the sense that they injected little hints of sarcasm into Kylo to remind us that he's Han Solo and Leia's son? His parents could quip with the best of them, so it made sense and I enjoyed that. Jumped out at me right away with, "You're so right".

Can we all agree that with a quality script and director, Driver would make an awesome Crow?

I hold the same thoughts for the character. He's unique. When he unmasked and started talking and you got a sense of who he was, I thought they failed. But then as it played on and understood, I thought that this is genius. He's an emotionally and socially stunted person and a wannabe Vader. It blew my mind.

And his crappy lightsaber being unstable is a good parallel. His crystal is cracked, or something, according to a Force Awakens character guide. And so he needs the vents, yet he transmogrified them into usage as a hilt. It's also why his beam is so crackly and volatile.

Really clever character all around.

That line didn't sit right with me at first but it made more sense as the film went on and Kylo is revealed more to be a kind of petulant, moody child. That's the kind of thing an angsty teen would say.

I don't think its a question people not getting that "they're supposed to feel that way" . It seems to be more that they just don't like that he's whiny. Its more a taste issue as opposed to not understanding that they aren't suppose to like the baddie or not understanding what Abrams was going for. That basically comes down to whether you liked the approach to the character or not and people are always gonna have different opinions regardless.

As far as the whole"Emo"thing goes, at this point i've seen the term "Emo" apply to a variety of characterizations from brooding, to goth, to being sensitive , to being angst ridden, to being whiny. I do think the term has been overused in general, and is kinda short hand to describe a broad range of things. I wouldn't call Kylo emo either though.

re: completing his training, does anyone know what he'd have left to do? maybe the creation of a new lightsaber? or he learns about force lighting?

I assume that since at the end of TFA he is on his way to complete his training under Snoke, in EP VIII he will be known as DARTH REN….

I'm betting that he'll just be known as Kylo Ren and that the sequels will disregard the "Every one who uses the dark side has the first name/title 'Darth' " trend that Episode 1 introduced.

If they ever mention Palpatine, they'll call him ''The Emperor" instead of Darth Sidious. Just like Yoda and Obi Wan don't refer to him as Sidious or even as a Sith in the OT.

Does he even need to be referred to as Sith at all? I mean there are other force users in the galaxy, and just because you are bad doesn't make you a sith by default right?

I thought the Sith Order ended with the death of Palpatine?

Personally I think Snoke is the first fallen Jedi. Something of a Miltonesque Lucifer figure.

That's why Luke went to the first Jedi temple. I think Snoke will give insight into the beginnings of the Jedi order.

Remember that Snoke is an alien and aliens can live far longer lives than humanoids like Luke, Han, etc.

Maz is over 1000, Yoda was 900. Snoke could be over "A thousand generations" old.

Not sure if this has been addressed yet, but I do wish we'd gotten some idea why Kylo kept hitting himself in the side during
the final lightsaber battle with Rey. I had no idea why he was doing it, and really still don't. Someone mentioned he was badly wounded and was 'pushing his insides back in', but I'm not sure.
It looked really strange.

I doubt his [BLACKOUT]insides was falling out[/BLACKOUT], I think it was to pump himself full of adrenaline to make the pain go away.
