Advent Children, English version

And just for the record.....didn't Tseng die in Final Fantasy VII (the game)?
I was confused about that too, but others reminded me that he was still talking after Sephiroth attacked him, and was saying "I'm not dead yet" over the radio, or something. Although you never see him after that scene. Basicly, it was comicbook death: Even if Reed Richards personally inspects the body, confirms it's them and they're really dead right before they put you in the ground... that's still no garauntee you're really dead

Good point.

I'm watching it right now. I just finished the first fight in the Forgotten City. Barrett sounds absolutely ridiculous (did they cast a bad Mr.T impersonator for the role or something?)...None of the voices are really doing it for me, to be honest. Its ok. Not too great. Not really bad. Its just...meh...so far. The plot just isn't pulling me in. The animation and fight scenes are great...but thats about it.

It's funny because all the fanboys wanted Mr. T to play Barrett.

Sounded like Beau Billingslea to me.

I was defending the US voices before I saw it, but they ended up not doing very much for me. Something wasn't right with
Rufus'
voice, like in the sound mixing or something. His voice never sounded like it was coming from a source, but it was all over. Cloud's I DID like, Zack and Aerith I was cool with, but that's about it. Cid (my favoritie character)... eh. The redneck thing KIND OF works, but it didn't quite feel like him, Cait Sith and Red XIII had, I think, one line each so I can't really judge, Yuffie was annoying (that's not character biased, I actually liked her in the game). Reno and Rude were good. The first line we heard out of Sephiroth's mouth I LOVED... and then every other line I didn't like, so he was real back and forth for me. Barret was terrible

I don't care for redneck Cid either. Tifa isn't too bad but her dialogue sucks.. Reno and Rude, I admit are relaly good. Haven't heard Sephiroth yet. I agree about
Rufus
. But even if were mixed properly...it still doesn't seem like the voice fits the character. Its too deep.

The Bahumut fight was kick ass right until the point where they all jumped into the air to throw Cloud harder. It kind of jumped the shark at that point.

I stand correct...it jumped the shark when they brought
Tseng and Elena...Tseng for the second time
back to life out of nowhere to catch
Rufus in their net guns

So was Aerith a dillusion or was her spirt truly talking to Cloud?

My final thoughts:

good animation and fight sequences, ****ty plot and dialogue.

the last 30 minutes of the film were dedicated to action and a decent chunk of the first hour were also dedicated to action

the film consisted of separately

1,2,3,4,5,6, 7 action scenes

cloud vs loz and yazoo on bikes at the beginning
tifa vs loz
cloud vs loz yazoo and kadaj in the forest
cloud and others vs bahumut
cloud vs loz and yazoo on bikes
cloud vs kadaj
cloud vs sephiroth

for those who thinkthe battles were too short, try watching most action scenes in movies, they are only about three minute long maximum once you take out the faff. it's only short in comparison to other anime battles which tend to last multiple episodes but for a feature, i think they were all about right, especially the last two.

You forgot Reno and Rude vs Yazoo and Loz.

Liked, but didn't love the movie. The first half of the movie is a big snooze fest. Some virus and 3 androginus guys looking for moth...zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz. When it got to the Bahamut fight, that when it got interesting. The movie is a visual masterpiece, and the fight scenes are amazing. I didn't care to much about the voice acting, because there wasn't really any story for it to apply to.

Tseng never died in FFVII. Elena's dialogue was a mistranslation that was corrected in the PC version of FFVII.

I see. What is the real dialogue?

This movie was pretty good.
Nice follow up to VII the game.

Does the English version do better at letting you understand what is actually going on? The Japanese version was a bit confusing and I heard that they re-wrote some of the lines to make it easier to understand.

*Q: Didn't Tseng die in Final Fantasy VII? I recall Elena saying to Cloud
"...you really got guts doin' my boss in like that!".
*A: Obviously Tseng didn't die since he is present in the film sequel. While
the PlayStation version of Final Fantasy VII released in North America
certainly made it seem that Tseng had died due to Elena's statement, this was,
in fact, a major mistranslation, and was corrected with the PC version in
which Elena says "...you really got guts messin' my boss up like that!".

I'm not really sure what is said in the Japanese version...but pretty much anything said to advance the plot is just a brief explanation from Vincent who for some reason has become all knowing

Who are you kidding with that? The man had his pack of cigarettes rolled up in his sleeve. If that doesn't scream hick to you, then I don't know what will. :p ;)

Snake from the Simpsons has a rolled up pack of cigarettes on his sleeve. I dunno, there's ways of being uncultured without being redneck, ya know?

Cid's a hillbilly and everyone knows it.

And when the heck did Cait Sith become Scottish?

Since Cait Sith is a creature that comes from Scottish and Irish mythology.

In other words Cait Sith was Scottish before he was Final Fantasy :p .

I learn something everyday. I never knew that.

 woah, never knew that. Cool.

If you ever played FF6, the Magicite "Stray" was also supposed to be Cait Sith
