After watching X1 and X2 again recently.....

And watch the end of X2m it screams of a bigger role for Cyke.

From what I recall, 90% of the camera zoomtime is on Logan's emotional reaction to Jean's death.

We see the back of Scott's head.

Sorry, but...you can't. None of you can.

And it amazes me to see some of you guys bashing Ratner for the coulda-woulda-shouldas when none of you even seen the film yourselves. Isn't that quite a presumptuous stand?

"Cyclops woulda had this"

"Cyclops woulda had that"

You mean Cyclops would suddenly have a role he never had in two films straight? Come on. Both of the productions for X1 and X2 were rushed and troubled, as it has been for X3. Studio politics manipulated all three productions--that also cannot be denied. And what if James Marsden had opted to do SR under another director at the same time? Can you vouch that the studio wouldn't have reacted differently? Would Logan have suddenly taken a backseat in this franchise to...James Marsden?

Too many coulda-woulda-shouldas.

So to be honest, there is absolutely no "guarantee" that things would have been much different from what we have now. None whatsoever.

I didnt say Cyclops would replace logan, just that he would have had a bigger role in the third installment, and as Obsidian confirmed Singer did say as much when he was still on X3.

Firstly - I don't understand how people can be complaining about a movie they haven't even seen yet
huh.gif
How bout waiting until you see how everything comes together before crying about the direction of the series ?

Secondly - Who's to say that Singer would not have made the same movie ? Sure Singers movies are slow paced with not much action, but maybe he would have picked up the pace for the 3rd movie.

Why all the love for a director who wanted NO part of a 3rd X-Men movie ? He knew it was gonna be made, and yet he signs on to make Superman ?!?

And Finally - for those of you who want the same storyline from the comics....the solution is simple, go read the comic

Who broke down first, and i watched it last night for about the 50th time and the camera doesnt focus on Wolverine 90% of the time at all, its more 50/50 or 60/40, and who did Jean pick. The camera also focused on Cyclops more when Xavier mentioned losses in the White House.

I dont mean any offence by this but please dont take that way, but i believe its because of people like you that Fox think they can walk all over then fans. This attitude i dont care how good it is, i'll go see it anywaym is why they will continue to **** us.

Seriously! You know what I'm saying?! :p

People are complaining over what this could have been, yet X3 is clearly following the natural evolution of these characters.

Logan was primed to be the X-Men's main man and leader from jump--especially in X2. He was a loner--a Johnnie-Come-Lately. But he started to care about the X-Men and Xavier's vision. He became a leader. And that's when he took centerstage, while Scott was absent for 95% of the film.

So what was the excuse then? Considering the comic's saga, Scott "shoulda" been front and center in X2 prior to Jean's passing. Instead he was comatose and zombed out for the majority of the film. Essentially he had a cameo.

So what's the bottom line?

1.) Scott took a backseat to Logan in X1.

2.) Scott was MIA for nearly all of X2.

And you guys expect him to suddenly become a pivotal player in X3?

No. That's not how it works people. When you combine business politics, actors' star power, rushed production times, and studio intervention, NO comic book film (with the exception of perhaps Sin City) is going to be a perfect CB adaptation.

No offence taken - my main point though is, how is anyone supposed to know how good it is if they haven't seen it for themselves ??? Do I take the word of other people who haven't seen it, and hate it because there favorite character dies ? Or do I see it because I liked the first 2, and then make a decision on it ? Seems like the second option is the best

I dont want a %100 adaptation LS, i understand the omission of the Sh'iar and totally agree with it, as with planet eating and fighting on the moon, but the things i mentioned in my first post i totally DISAGREE with.

Then how can you be pro-Singer when he didn't even get the characters right and killed off mutants?

well, after seeing x3, which I really did enjoy, but feel it is the weakest of the trilogy, I could notice a difference between this one and singer's enteries, while x3 did look like a singer movie most of the time, it honestly felt like it was missing something, I just feel like Fox was to busy trying to copy the look of singer's movies but they forgot to copy how it made you feel. I enjoyed the action a lot, but I wish they could have added anothe 40 minutes to the film, give some sub characters some time to shine, so many characters were pointless, and now I know why the didn't bring Gambit into the story, if the did, he would have had a thankless cameo or small role like Quils, Pyslocke or many other of the brotherhood members. Atleast in the x2, when they inroduced a character such as Nightcrawler, he was more then just a pawn, unlike Juggs and Multiple Man, they felt merey like one trick pony, side note too, Juggs muscle suite was very very annoying..... Also the Rogue/Ice-Man relationship really felt forced this time
what did I like, I liked wolverine, I know cyke fans will hang me for this, but I think Hugh did a good job, as ussual, with the logan character. Halle had more to do this time, but in the end, her peformance was forgettable IMO. Ian and patrick were both outstanding, I could never picture anyone else playing there roles. Famke did good when the time called for it, she had basically a thankless role the majority of the time, just being a trophy next to Magneto, towards the end though, when she turns it on, she goes nuts, and I really enjoyed seeing that, since she is the "dark phoenix", I just wish she had more to do in the movie then just stand around for much of the time. Angel was good in his scenes, but he had 10 minutes of screen time IMO, maybe a few more, but not much. Beast was great, I thought his makeup was good and I'm glad to see that he had some decent action scenes.
I would have done without the cure darts tho, I thought that was a little lame, I also think that a certain fan fav on these boards was treated unfarely, after their death, he gets barely a mention, and basically it seems like no one cares, I think that right there was Fox giving the finger to Mr M., the killed him off, then made it clear to no one really gave a crap, and i think that was a message to him from fox, IMO

oooppps, sorry for the review, I can't start any threads on here for another week, so, yeah!!!

In all honesty - were those the impressions you got, or the hopes that you had ?

Okay.

But Singer can say whatever he wants. That's a far cry however from what we might've actually got. Stories change, as do scripts. Halle Berry said she wouldn't play Storm again. She's back. We were "told" that Sentinels would never see the light of day, ditto for the Danger Room. Yet...?

Avi Arad (Marvel's CEO) made it abundantly clear that the Dark Phoenix Saga was not enough to fill a whole movie. He's Marvel. Then you have FOX in the mix. Hugh Jackman is the Star. Those factors considered, exactly how much power do you think Bryan Singer would have in pushing a little-known James Marsden to the forefront just to honor the comic book? Hmmm?

When you consider the track record of the studio and Bryan Singer, you will find that the source material is only a reference for their moviemaking--it's never been gospel.

Don't take this the wrong way but...no it didn't. We saw Cyclops' grief mainly through Logan's eyes...he looked over at Scott during Xavier's statements. And the camera returned to gaze on him.

"We'll be watching".

Tell me, who spoke this "leadership" line? Who was made to look firm and strong in the face of opposition, while the REAL leader was depicted as weak and more emotional (although it was understandably so)? Which of the two characters gave you the sense of "I will take charge from this point on" at the end of X2?

The amount of camera ops is not always the best barometer to guage these sorts of things. There are other elements to consider.

I'm glad you didnt take offence as it was never meant that way. But i have read every spoiler on the movie, and i know a lot of it will ruin the experience for me, i know. I also think it is fans like you, who stay optimistic all the way through, who deserve a better movie adaptation.

I too have read every spoiler - and although I will know how just about every scene turns out, I still wont know the look and feel of the movie unless I experience it first hand.

Drunk And Typing is a bannable offense. :p

I'm sorry LS, but watching X2 last night, i got the distince impression that Cyclops was set up for more screen time in X3, the focus was on Cyclops in the White House, it zoomed on Cyke, held, zoomed on Wolvie for 30 seconds, he looked back at Cyke, it focused on him again. I dont blame him for not saying much, last time i lost someone i loved, i didnt speak for almost 2 hrs.

It just seemed to be setting him up for something more, especially with Wolverine saying "she did make a choice, it was you." Now with Singer his role wont have been more than Wolverine's, but it would have definately been more the unbelievable XMTLS treatment.
