Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. Agents of SHIELD TV series for ABC - General Discussion - LEVEL 11 - Part 8

Shields connectiveness to the movies I think is better. Shield are busy dealing with the Inhumans and Lash and Hydra. The Avengers aren't, they were working as a team taking down other Hydra factions and then dealing with Ultron and then rebuilding and training a new team. I liked how they retroactively made Coulson the catalyst in finding Lokis sceptre and setting the events of AoU in motion. That felt good. However it'll be another mistep if the ATCU isn't mentioned at all in CW....for christs sake, the president made a speech on how people were turning into alien hybrids and were dangerous and he assembled the ATCU to combat it. This is a BIG thing, and in civil war if you have all this chat about superhumans registaring and working for the government or keeping tabs on them and accountability it's moronic not to address the increasing number of people popping up with powers, hell, as a new subspecies.

And it turns out that the ATCU is actually controlled by a HYDRA cell led by a guy who is also the president's personal advisor. If you're a president and you want to get reelected, you don't want to see something like that in the newspapers.

In Jessica Jones the only other 'referance' that was weird was just Cage saying "the green guy and his crew". Just say THE AVENGERS. That is the superhero team name, they are referred to that many times in the media and in passing like that. It's not a big deal to say the name. Jessica saying "the big green guy or the flag waver" worked cause she was pissed, it fits with her character and she was being blamed for these guys destruction and collateral damage. It worked there, but not for Cage.

Luke Cage is not a fan of heroes. "The way I see it, being a hero just puts a target on your back." He doesn't want to call them by their official name.

I'm kinda half and half.

For me the Netflix series are only pissing me off in one respect. No Avengers tower.
Because they don't want to spend too much money for an little easter egg.
But the avengers tower is in the teaser and poster from the show:

I'm well aware of it appearing in the posters, but I don't care. It was cool. But if it isn't going to be in the show, don't put it on the poster either. It's lazy.

Episode 5, AKA The Sandwich Saved Me. A kid dressed like Captain America. Is that good enough?

An Easter egg would be if they slipped in a quick shot of Stark Tower in a film where it didn't otherwise exist. Failing to show it in the skyline when we know it exists and have seen it before wrecks visual continuity within the shared universe.

But judging by some of the other shots in JJ at least their f/x budget wasn't sufficient.

It's enough for me. The Avengers and Daredevil didn't need their names spoken for me to know when they were mentioned. I think the Battle of New York is called the Incident in the Netflix side of things, but I still know what they're talking about. It just seems like a way to remind you of the world that you're in without distracting too much from the lesser known characters that you're getting to know here.

Never thought about it but that's pretty clever. The press calls it TBoNY (because of course they would put a dramatic spin on it) while the common citizenry who experienced it use a more vague and unnerving term, like they're almost cautious about mentioning it.

will simpson for most of it with the brown leather jacket and the blond hair has a steve rodgers look about him. bit of a tenuous link but possibly done for a reason.

So no Agents of SHIELD this week?

Who gets their hair cut at a place with a skull and crossbones on the window? That's basically saying your jugular is fair game.
the barber is called Lew's, they serve alcohol to their customers while they get a hair cut. :D

Why would she? It's obvious who she's talking about, right? Superheroes can have a lot of nicknames.

Again, it's obvious who they're talking about. Also, the show is about Jessica Jones, not about the Avengers. There is no need for mentioning them just for the sake of mentioning them.
It just seems like alot of effort to avoid the names is all, and THAT particular conversation would have gone better

Did you notice the kids behind "cap"? looks like Luke and Jess chasing him lol :more:

meanwhile....still no word on tieing up loose ends on season 1....gravition etc etc

So they are going to add Yo-Yo Rodriguez......

Hopefully we'll see more comic based Secret Warriors. Just keep the original creations to Lincoln, Joey and Alisha.

Some people think Ward will transition into Hellfire by the mid season finale.

Sooner or later, POTUS is gonna find out that Hydra compromised his latest pet project, and I don't think he'll want the American public to know that the bad guys yet again infiltrated a concept of his.

Now that is ridiculous. I'd rather buy the rumors of him ending up being Taskmaster than Hellfire. XD
Yea, about that...

  • Ward is a pyromaniac, a fact which the writers like to bring up every chance they get. Hellfire wields a flaming chain.
  • Ward and Hellfire had a romance with Daisy and despite the fact they betrayed Coulson/Fury, their feelings for Daisy were real.
  • Ward and Hellfire worked with S.H.I.E.L.D. but then were revealed to be a Hydra traitors.
  • Ward and Hellfire have anti S.H.I.E.L.D. sentiments.
  • Ward and Hellfire hate the Director of S.H.I.E.L.D.
  • As of season 2B Ward’s been donning a brown leather jacket, which Hellfire is known for.
  • Hellfire was part of the Secret Warriors, and according to Chloe Bennet we’ll be getting into Secret Warriors at the end of season 3.

Don't get me wrong , Taskmaster is definitely still on the table too. But to ignore the hints of Ward being a re-imagined version of JT is kind of a head scratcher, especially since we know how much AoS is influenced by Secret Warriors. His connection to Daisy and the parallels between their relationship and one seen between Quake and Hellfire in the Secret Warriors comic can't be understated. Also consider Skye and Ward were the only characters from Coulson's original Team absent from Waid's AoS comics, she was recently revealed to be Daisy/Quake and I assume Ward is next.

Especially now that Brett Dalton said the mid season finale will be a Winter Soldier esque twist. (referring to him being revealed a double agent back in season 1)

Interesting new character in AoS

Point of Geeks reports that Cordova-Buckley has recently been cast in the role and will start filming in January. While not much is known about her TV show storyline, we already know plenty about her from the comics. Yo-Yo is Puerto Rican character with super speed, but this runner isn’t just like Quicksilver. She has to return to the point where she started running, hence the codename Slingshot

I noticed that too while watching and after the reveal it made sense.

But also, I wonder if Cops/Military types all sort of look up to Cap in the MCU and style themselves after him.

I hope we see Simpson in DD season 2...the other guy and him share similar views.

but, AoS and Netflix need a crossover at this point.

How exactly would that work?
