Sci-Fi Alien 5

I really liked Covenant, although I'll deduct some points if it doesn't get a sequel, because it reads as a two-parter to me. I would like an alternative sequel to Aliens, though.

How many semi-good or better Alien films are there?

For me, it's Alien, Aliens, and Covenant, although I haven't seen the AvP movies (and don't care to).
Thanks. I don’t know for sure if I’ve seen Covenant. Pretty sure I’ve seen everything else, and like the Terminator series, I only really liked the first 2.

I actually like Resurrection. The directing is the only thing I don't like all that much but I like Whedon's script. I'll take it over Alien 3. ****ing hell.

See I actually like Resurrection as well and I never minded Alien 3, although I get why some people hate it. The first two movies are god tier though, but as much as I do love them I am pretty much done with Ridley Scott directing anymore Alien movies after Covenant. I was one of the few people that defended Prometheus in the beginning too, but he even managed to make that movie worse after how much he crapped all over the Alien mythology in Covenant with the David BS. I don't know if BlomKamp's movie would have been any good, but I at least would have been curious enough to see the end results of it and its hard imaging it being any worse than what we have already gotten.

I like Alien 3 a great deal tbh. The first two movies are always described as horror and action, respectively, but to me Alien 3 is a great and underrated tragedy film. A rarity in mainstream blockbuster cinema. It ain't perfect, but it's good and I think it has a great deal of merit to it. I'd much rather watch that and Resurrection (dumb popcorn fun) than either of Ridley Scott's boring latter-day efforts where the Alien universe is concerned.

I can appreciate Alien 3 for craft, it's strong score, casting, and some of its ideas, I just hate how the movie bends over backwards to be like the first movie. The idea that this nightmare will never be over for Ripley is very interesting for a third movie. I like the nihilistic aspect of that. I just wish that wasn't in service of a retread of the first. It's a retraction after the second. I'm not saying go bigger, but the lack of creativity and excuses for why this movie is good gets frustrating when it's so fundamentally half measured. It's why I'm never gonna like the entire movie.

It’s a shame they wasted Charlize thereon’s character but oh well. If they made a new one who would be a cast addition that would make you say “oh wow this just got interesting”

Count me in as one of the five people who think Alien 3 is a way more interesting movie than Aliens. Same with Covenant, even though both are technically way messier.

After Ellen Ripley's last appearance in David Fincher's "Alien 3," Sigourney Weaver teased a potential return to the world of Weyland-Yutani at a New York Comic Con "Alien" reunion panel.

"['Alien' producer] Walter Hill is a very good friend of mine, and he wrote 50 pages of where Ripley would be now, and they're quite extraordinary," Weaver on stage during a conversation moderated by Josh Horowitz. "I don't know if it's going to happen, but I have had a meeting with Fox or Disney...I've never felt the need [to reprise the role]. I was always like, 'Let her rest, let her recover.' What Walter has written seems so true to me, as very much about the society that would incarcerate someone who has tried to help mankind, but she's a problem to them, so she's sort of tucked away. I think it's a very strong first 50 pages. I'm thinking about working with Walter to see what the rest of the story

I guess Variety forgot about Alien Resurrections.

Wasn't Neill Blomkamp going to do this, and basically pull a Halloween by making a sequel to Aliens and pretending Alien 3 didn't happen? Maybe they will go back to that idea.

Yep. Was cancelled and we got Romulus, Earth, and a cancelled Ridley Scott one.
