Watched the first two eps, LOVED it. It's exactly what I expected Noah Hawley to do and more.

Also, that TV on the Radio needle drop was perfect.

But I will say when they killed off Richa Moorjani I was pissed.

Also, kind of interesting to see Olyphant play against typecast and portray a somewhat unlikable character (more than he usually does at least ). His albino look is going to take some getting used to though lol. I feel like he and Goggins made a deal that each of them would play a really weird looking mentor antihero character in their current shows lol.

It was a mixed bag for me. Some of it was great, some of it not so much. The pacing wasn't great although the story did pick up after the ship finally crashed down. Then it got far more gory than I expected it to be.

The xenomorph design is hit and miss too. At least the behavior is overall spot on.

Olyphant is good though he reminds me way too much of a certain replicant. :funny: Really should have put him in a Blade Runner movie.

Yeah the xenomorph design messed with me a bit and I can’t tell whether I liked it or not. It definitely gave me a “guy in a suit” feel more than normal but this doesn’t feel like it was limited by budget. But I couldn’t help but feel like it looked like a dude from Daft Punk lol.

The daft punk comment is spot on. It looked like the Xeno was wearing a visor.

I think the issue is that they aren't using enough lube. It isn't nearly as wet as we are used to seeing the Xenos. Also, I think with it being a bit more of an action suit, the finer details are smoothed over to give it more mobility that you are picking up.

And they talked a lot about copious amounts of lube at SDCC but alas they didn’t have enough.

Question about episode one:

Why when the Xenomorph’s drool got on the black android’s face in the spaceship, it wasn’t acidic? Or did I miss something?

Oh a "screen life" movie set in the Alien universe could be fun. Give it that retro future aesthetic.

I just watched the first 2 episodes, pretty good. The production values are on point and it captures the tone of the first 2 movies. Timothy Olyphant is a million miles from Raylan Givens, but his albino synth is intriguing, as is Morrow the Cyborg, and the brother and sister are likable characters.

The Xenomorph has seen quite a bit of action so far, I don't think I can recall one moving quite so athletically with so many full body shots. I could do without the eyeball thing and the worm. 🤮

Just based on the appearance of the actors, I wonder if Wendy's body is modeled on a relative of Boy Kavalier, given how similar they look.

I'm a bit mixed on the show so far but we're also only 2 episodes in so there's time left to win me over.

The story and setting is good. I like that we see the crew on the ship before things go bad but we don't see what actually happens (maybe that's for a later episode) but having it crash in this city and this skyscraper is an interesting idea. A 'zoo of horrors' on board having broken free is a neat idea too. The atmosphere and tension is pretty good and I enjoy a lot of the world building & lore that we are being presented with in this show.

I'm not sold on the characters though. The idea of having synthetics with superhuman powers but the mind of a child is interesting on paper but when that's all your characters in this little team it's actually a bit annoying. The best part of having a child character in an Alien story would be having someone underpowered to whom the Alien is a bigger threat and so you feel more tense and anxious because they don't have the physical capabilities of an adult. And the best part for me with the synthetics or androids in theory is having these characters who possess great knowledge and ability and will act according to logic/plan (or programming) to get things done. To me the child-synthetics is like combining these two but taking out the 2 best attributes I like in both and keeping the worst ones.

I love Timothy Olyphant but so far he's been given nothing to do outside of being the daycare teacher guiding these useless synthetics around and giving them instructions. I was also disappointed in how little I felt for the brother/sister reunion and we just don't know these characters enough to care that much yet. To me this feels like something that should have been established with both of them knowing about the other one, fighting through hell to see each other and then maybe do the reunion at the end of the season for some impact? To me it felt like a moment when we were supposed to feel something and I didn't.

When it comes to the Xenomorph itself I'm also mixed. I'm surprised how much we've seen it so far actually. I know it's an Alien show and they know the imagery will sell the show but I was under the impression that this would be an 'elevated' Alien show focusing less on the creature stalking people and more about the implications of what it would mean if this got loose and out of control on earth. We've seen it in full view a couple of times and to me it looks too clean, too rubbery.

Still like it overall just more mixed than I was hoping. It feels like the show itself is going for more of a high concept like Prometheus where it's about these bigger questions and topics, and for me that clashes with the scenes of the Xenomorph that feel more schlocky and like something from Alien Resurrection.

I agree. Good ideas (not good execution) that have been rushed and underbaked have held the show back in the first couple of episodes.
