Sega Alien: Isolation

Yeah, as I said in my edit, guys, it is an older impression. I was thinking I read it much later on then that. It's good that later impressions have been better. I'll still probably end up waiting for November, but I have a friend who gets Game Informer (or used to), so I might be able to read some of the newer stuff.

Yeah like I said everything I read in this recent issue of game informer sounded great to me. And I never usually care for people's reviews or impressions.

As in real life, a gun doesn't do **** against them.

Sounds like if they trimmed the fat, this could have been great. Im still picking it up eventually.

Good Lord, those reviews. Milquetoast across the board.

This game seems to be a bit polarizing, but it is sitting at a healthier 75, 79, and 80 average on Metacritic. There are most 8's and 9's. :) Also, am I the only sick of reviewers complaining about the difficulty when they are in the hardest settings?

So ready for this game! Don't give a **** for reviews cause I don't see the point in reading someone else's opinion to influence my own. Can't wait to play this in the dark with my headset on and just enjoy :woot:

Yeah, those aren't horrible scores, but definitely on the low side. Curious if there's common elements throughout them about what issues the game may have.

Reading reviews are not meant to influence your opinion, they are there, in theory, to inform you of pros and cons of a game to inform your purchase of a title. Some people do take it too far, admittedly, but there's really nothing wrong with wanting to know something about a $60 game purchase, including criticism some may have of it.

Ehhh I never read or really care for reviews for anything. Be it games or movies etc. I know what I like or what I'm gonna like and what I'm into. Works for me so that's my system haha :word:

At least it's not as bad as Colonial Marines.

The common issues Im hearing is the game is too long for what it is and its too hard. Im waiting for Bloody Disgusting reveiw, Adam Dodd from BD has a much better grasp on the genre.

Is it really hard to make a great Alien(s) game? :csad: This is my mate's most anticipated game. Hope it is still half-decent.

Despite the polarizing reviews, I do feel like what I'm reading from these reviews have renewed my interest a good deal. If I could squeeze this into my budget fro the month, I probably would, but I can't. I'll definitely keep my eyes open for this on Black Friday, though. Seems like it's going to be one of those games that will be interesting to play despite flaws. Hopefully, the original cast DLC will be available to the general public by that point.

I saw a wide range of reviews via NeoGAF. It's got some good reviews for sure, seems like it's either a love it or hate it kind of thing.

Common takeaway from the reviews: it seems like the developer has almost made the alien too good. It is too unpredictable, too quick to kill you and too powerful. Therefore the game equates to constant hiding and crouching, which will only even work 50 % of the time or so and the other 50 % you are going to die. Factor in that it is a really long campaign and it apparently gets repetitive and you get your score.

It seems like the reviews all seem to agree with these key points and therefore we have a game where your mileage may vary. It seems that some tolerate or even enjoy those features (leading to the higher scores) where as others are put off by them. I feel like this is shaping up to be a very divisive game.

lol, IGN has always been random with their review ratings. The fact that IGN gave this game a lower rating due to unpredictable AI and lack of scripted events is funny because that is what you want in a game like this. The fact that the AI is random makes a survival horror game much more challenging. It also makes the Xenomorph more of a threat knowing that it's programmed to be unpredictable.

I get the feeling I'd enjoy this but I doubt I'd be able to see it through to the end.

I don't feel that such is IGN's complaint though. I think IGN's complaint is that there is absolutely no rhyme or reason to the monster. I think it is less about unpredictability and more about sheer randomness. The alien reacting to the same stiumli in the exact same situation differently each time may be "unpredictable," and "realistic," but this is a game. A game does have to have internal rules, otherwise it isn't challenging, it is unfair. As such, I think it is a fair complaint.

So basically this is a xenomorph sim.
