Unrelated, but this gif is from one of my favorite I Think You Should Leave skits.

I feel like those tweets are always extremely misleading. They never factor in marketing budget or the fact that the theatres keep a big chunk of the money. Just feels like an inflated way of making something seem bigger than it is.

With that said I'm happy its doing decent numbers.

The 2.5x budget is just a guideline based on a lot of what we know about the business. To be frank, we never truly know how well a movie did profit wise. Very good chance most of the reported budgets are not the actual budgets of the films, at least for the big films. A lot of it is propaganda for the investors in order to get money to make more films.

If they continue to make sequels and spin-offs to said film, chances are they’re profitable

Just saw this film a few hours ago with my friend, and we both really enjoyed it for the most part, aside from a certain character and the last 20-30 minutes.

My friend has seen all the films, unlike me. Only saw the first one for the first time in years as mentioned a few threads back. Still have to see the other films for the first time, particularly looking forward to Aliens and Alien 3!

Stuff like the direction, cinematography, production design were all really well done! The same goes to the score, sound design and sound mixing, which were fantastic! Actually jumped a few times in the theatre and almost choked on a piece of popcorn!

I thought the performances from Cailee Spaney and David Jonsson in particular were awesome. The dynamic between Andy and Rain was great to watch. Other actors weren’t bad at all, their characters just weren’t as developed!

Most of the effects in the film seemed to be practical, which is appreciated. Xenomorphs and Facehuggers looked awesome. That character I mentioned in the first paragraph was really weird and distracting. Did not expect to see them so much in the film. Also not sure if the stuff in the third act was CGI or Practical, but I definitely noticed CG half of the time during the last 20-30 minutes.

Third act was really crazy, but I just thought it was a bit weird!

Overall, I would give this a 7 or 7.5/10

Either way, it outgrossed Covenant so it should be getting a sequel. I'm down for the further adventures of Rain and Andy.

Maaaan, I would find some way to resurrect Ripley. Sigourney said recently she'd be down for another movie.

They'd have to retcon Alien 3 and somehow have Rain and Andy show up after Ripley leaves LV 426. Problem is Sigourney is too old to play a young Ripley so having an old Ripley means Alien 3 never happened.

True. It could be hokey, but if not completely resurrecting Ripley, I'd cast Sigourney as her lookalike daughter Amanda from the Isolation game.

The Ripley from Resurrection is still alive though? Then again I know there's a time difference but in theory you could do cryo sleep shenanigans or wormholes or something else to explain that. I love Sigourney but I don't need to see her in another of these. I look at the other films where they have dragged out a beloved actor back into the limelight to star in the 5th or 6th movie of a franchise they started 40 years earlier and I don't know if it's ever been truly great. The nostalgia is nice for a minute but once the popcorn dust settles there's not much there.

I'm of two minds about it. On the one hand I'm always down to see Sigourney in anything but figuring out a way to believably work Ripley back into the franchise sounds like a massive headache. I would have been on board for the Neil Blomkamp movie that retconned Alien 3 (and I guess Resurrection too but there's a little more wiggle room with that one since it takes place so far in the future) but I think that ship has sailed.

I think as it stands right now, the franchise isn't in desperate need of Ripley. Between Andy, Rain and David there are three interesting characters still out there that can carry the franchise. I also say that as if it's been confirmed that David will be back but considering Fassbender was the one who got the most praise even with how divisive Prometheus and Covenant were, they'd do well to get him back on board.

Like I said, IF we REALLY want to bring Ripley back, just pull a Halloween and retcon 3. There's a treasure trove of Books and Comics that were awesome that detailed life post LV-426 for the 3 main characters.

As goofy as Alien Resurrection was, which I found entertaining, I don't want to continue that timeline.

No retcons for me. There have been plenty of times I wished I could just ignore a bad entry, but every time I've seen it actually done, it feels weird. They rarely "fix" things enough to justify scrapping others, and you can never erase the badness even if you pretend it never happened.

Ripley is alive anyway. If you are picking up with a 70 yr old Ellen, you might as well just explain where she is now and leave the rest mysterious.
