Not having seen it in a while, I decided I wanted to get Pred 2, but it resulted in an interesting experience.
I did some looking on the net and found this.

http://www.amazon.com/Predator-2-Mo..._bbs_sr_3?ie=UTF8&s=dvd&qid=1200237980&sr=1-3

The user reviews indicated that it was the two disk versions of both films in slim case packs with a slip cover. Nice huh? Plus it would match that Target Exclusive slim Alien Triple pack I bought last week. Sounds good huh? I already have Predator but Pred 2 alone is going for about $13.00 so I thought I might be willing to upgrade for this two film gift set.
So I went to Fry's and found this thing and it is indeed two slim cases in a slip cover. That made me hesitant because I couldn't see how they would fit two disk in each of those cases...plus there were no specs on the box, so my question still wasn't answered as to whether it was the two disk versions. I certainly couldn't tell by the weight of it. I couldn't imagine the barebones versions being sold for that price. To add to my confusion, they had two of these items..one was priced $19.99 and the other $14.99..?? Obvisously they had mismarked one of the packages.
So I decided to risk it and grabbed the $14.99 priced box and went to the register. When I made it out to my truck, I immediately opened it and slid the slim DVD cases out of the slip case. I got disapointed when I looked at the back of the two case covers as it looked like the bare bones versions. I popped open the cases and to my surprise, there was a disk on the inside of each case door. It was the two disk versions of each film!
So to let anyone else know that is interested, it is indeed the two disk versions in slim case packaging of the bare bones versions. And maybe you can find a mis-priced package and save $5 likes I did! :)
But I did watch Pred 2 last night, and as much as I feel Alien 3 has moved up the field in a recent viewing, Pred 2 is taking steps back. That movie just didn't age well at all. There is some interesting Predator action but at the same time the action is very silly at points. Plus the movie has a lot of comedic moments that just don't come off well. There is a scene in a subway where there is a mugging, and the victim pulls a gun, then everyone on the subway pulls a gun! Now this was obvisously a parody of a real event that happened a few years prior when Bernhard Goetz shot some thugs when they attempted to rob him on the subway. The intended comedy, just doesn't hold up too well.
After revisiting this movie, I'm sorry to say that it may get bumped back in my personal rankings. I would put AVP-R ahead of it, and maybe even (gasp) AVP. It still beats Resurresction which for me can't be beaten for sheer rediculousness.

I know what you mean about the comedy side of things with the train but there is a hidden agenda with everyone pulling guns....the predator would only attack armed humans....he wants a challenge....there wouldnt have been much of a train massacre if only one person had a gun....that is why so many have them....

i felt it was a good point in the film as it shows how the predator works.....especially when he grabs the pregnant cop.....and then later when he rips Bill Paxton's head off

Yeah, I guess you are right on that point. Everyone needed a gun for the Pred to do his thing. And at the time it was set in the future where they felt something like that may happen, so it worked a little better.
Another minor detail that for some reason I can't get past is when Danny Glover charges the Pred on a rooftop with his own spear and just rams him so they both go tumbling off onto the ledge. Why would he grab the spear and ram him rather than stab him with it? I know it is minor, but some things like that are difficult for me to get past. Plus, the Pred absorbing a lightening strike is kinda weird. I do have to say that seeing Kevin Peter Hall in a Stan Winston designed Predator suit is a thing of beauty though. :)
I started watching the features on disk 2 and I have two words....Gary Busey. I could listen to that nutjob ramble on all day. haha. He's more entertaining in real life!
So far the extra features seem pretty cool.

oh and theweepoeple....

enough now....you have your opinion and i have mine....

ok so there were plot holes and yes i tried to defend them....funnily enough the films fiction and you werent there so you dont know for definate what the writers or director had in mind when they made it....so just enjoy the episodes of the saga that you do like and leave us with the respect and love for alien 3 be....cos end of the day your never gonna change our opinion of the film and we'll never change yours.....

take a pill to chill dude...

Agreed. However, I was never trying to change anyone's opinion on Alien 3 by stating mine. You were the one who got all upset by my strong dislike for Alien 3 when you suggested I should be ashamed for this opinion. Did you really think I wouldn't respond to your statement?

yeah that one is a puzzler....but i suppose if you have an alien weapon which im guessing will be heavier than human materials it would be hard to keep straight whilst running on a rooftop when your adrenalin is kicking in due to your fear of heights....but thats just me.....

the lightening thing i would put down to a highlight of special effects and nothing more....makes the pred look hard if he can withstand it but i doubt it has any relevance to the film

just seen this only got a 15 in the uk. anyone know if the censors have screwed us over again

With the current people running Fox? Hell no. John Cena in a prison with a Predator would be a disaster, and Requiem proved it can get a lot worse than that idea.

They haven't. It's being shown unedited in every country it's playing in.

I don't think a Predator 3 has any sufficient territory to explore on it's own. It would kinda just be more of the same. Alien still has a mythology that hasn't been filled in yet leading up to the first Alien movie, so there is a lot to mine there (What was the derilict ship and what race piloted it? What is the exact nature of the Weyland-Yutani connection and how did they know of the derelict? What is the origin of the species? Were they engineered by someone else?) . I would like to see that done via a well budgeted Alien vs Pred movie with the right talent involved. Failing that, I'd go for Aliens doing that in a solo film.

really wow lol it got an R in the states which is our 18. kinda wondered either it was cut or they think the public can handle it better than the usa

I guess that is surprising because I would call it a hard R.

yeah from what i've read most critics have panned it, what i call the artistic fans hate it, yet ones who seem to just want a fun movie says it a good way to kill a few hours

the movie reached its budget domesticaly:

Domestic: $40,081,000
+ Foreign: $36,536,503
= Worldwide: $76,617,503

i liked Requiem. it is what it is. a popcorn flick. if u take it like that, then u'll like it.

i'd like to see a AVP 3. but i'd like to see a Pred 3 and another Aliens (although, I wanna see a different type of Alien then what we've seen before. like have the ones we've grown accustomed to. but also show some different forms to the Aliens)

see i would love to see another aliens film...set a few years before the incidents of Alien....with some explaination as to the ship, how the company came about the aliens etc however i would not like to see a different form of alien...that to me would just push the franchise into utterly ridiculous....AvP is helping with that but atleast there isnt a change to the aliens themselves....

well, we've seen the standard Aliens and then we have the one from Alien 3 (the runner, which I liked). it just seems that not every single Alien we have in the movies from now on can end up bein the same. like i like the idea of it adapting to the host's features (the dog in Alien 3 (theatrical)). it is an idea that is a lil bit intriguing. but at the same time could also cause the series to downfall into ridiculousness again if not done correctly.

(oh yeah, and i liked the idea of the Queen face hugger from the Alien 3 (workprint))

how longs the movie?

86 minutes, and if you want to be cynical about it the only important part is in the last two. :o

If you want to go see it in theaters, I suggest doing it soon. Fox has already cut the amount of theaters playing this film by half.

I don't understand why the writers didn't just adapt one of the AvP comic storylines into a film. The comics have pretty much all been better than these two movies we've been given.

I'm going to have to agree with this.

So I'm downloading the 2004 AvP...for some reason I have the urge to re-watch just as I have the urge to replay Metal Gear Solid 2

What's happening to me...

Don't worry!! It's perfectly normal for us to relapse and redo things that we didn't like. For me, it's watching crappy Sci-Fi movies from time to time...it's strange how their crappiness just makes me want to watch them even more to see just how much more crappy they'll get. Help me...:csad:

Hey...ADI took a dump, and an Alien popped out!

God, do I hate the Resurrection design.
