Not having seen it in a while, I decided I wanted to get Pred 2, but it resulted in an interesting experience.
I did some looking on the net and found this.
http://www.amazon.com/Predator-2-Mo..._bbs_sr_3?ie=UTF8&s=dvd&qid=1200237980&sr=1-3
The user reviews indicated that it was the two disk versions of both films in slim case packs with a slip cover. Nice huh? Plus it would match that Target Exclusive slim Alien Triple pack I bought last week. Sounds good huh? I already have Predator but Pred 2 alone is going for about $13.00 so I thought I might be willing to upgrade for this two film gift set.
So I went to Fry's and found this thing and it is indeed two slim cases in a slip cover. That made me hesitant because I couldn't see how they would fit two disk in each of those cases...plus there were no specs on the box, so my question still wasn't answered as to whether it was the two disk versions. I certainly couldn't tell by the weight of it. I couldn't imagine the barebones versions being sold for that price. To add to my confusion, they had two of these items..one was priced $19.99 and the other $14.99..?? Obvisously they had mismarked one of the packages.
So I decided to risk it and grabbed the $14.99 priced box and went to the register. When I made it out to my truck, I immediately opened it and slid the slim DVD cases out of the slip case. I got disapointed when I looked at the back of the two case covers as it looked like the bare bones versions. I popped open the cases and to my surprise, there was a disk on the inside of each case door. It was the two disk versions of each film!
So to let anyone else know that is interested, it is indeed the two disk versions in slim case packaging of the bare bones versions. And maybe you can find a mis-priced package and save $5 likes I did!
But I did watch Pred 2 last night, and as much as I feel Alien 3 has moved up the field in a recent viewing, Pred 2 is taking steps back. That movie just didn't age well at all. There is some interesting Predator action but at the same time the action is very silly at points. Plus the movie has a lot of comedic moments that just don't come off well. There is a scene in a subway where there is a mugging, and the victim pulls a gun, then everyone on the subway pulls a gun! Now this was obvisously a parody of a real event that happened a few years prior when Bernhard Goetz shot some thugs when they attempted to rob him on the subway. The intended comedy, just doesn't hold up too well.
After revisiting this movie, I'm sorry to say that it may get bumped back in my personal rankings. I would put AVP-R ahead of it, and maybe even (gasp) AVP. It still beats Resurresction which for me can't be beaten for sheer rediculousness.
