Here is the 1979 commerical For the Kenner Alien figure (TEOL)

well, we've seen the standard Aliens and then we have the one from Alien 3 (the runner, which I liked). it just seems that not every single Alien we have in the movies from now on can end up bein the same. like i like the idea of it adapting to the host's features (the dog in Alien 3 (theatrical)). it is an idea that is a lil bit intriguing. but at the same time could also cause the series to downfall into ridiculousness again if not done correctly.

(oh yeah, and i liked the idea of the Queen face hugger from the Alien 3 (workprint))

Agree.

I think Alien 3 got away with it because it still more or less LOOKED like an Alien should (I know two people who have watched Alien 3 many times and only recently realised that the design was different) ...

There is also an arguement to say ... why should an Alien take on a hosts features?

They grow and burst out in a matter of days (now hours), why would they take on new DNA?

Ahh, the days when an R-rated movie could have toys. They were basically encouraging kids to go see it.

why?
lol i had TONS of predator and alien toys when i was 8...

I just find something funny about it. Kids back in the 70's were supposed to be sweet and innocent. They wore Pacman pajamas and watched Superfriends. They weren't the little monsters we were, who grew up playing Doom and watching horror flicks on cable at 3 AM. :p

Pffft! Playing video games and watching TV doesn't make you threatening. Someone from the 70, that grew up breaking bones from climbing trees and riding bikes, actually outside, would simply call that being a pastey skinned puss.
That was also an era where porn played at normal movie theaters, and the grindhose movies originated. Hell, Tarrantino is of gen X....And Pac Man was 80's

Dont know if this has been posted yet, but Rotten Tomatoes says its has grossed $40 million as of Jan 13. I guess Fox managed to break even with this one. Not counting foriegn box office.

So...think this means a sequel or no?

The box office totals so far are $40,081,000 domestic and $36,536,503 foreign giving a total of $76,617,503. Lastly, if you're in the UK, switch on to FilmFour tonight. They're showing Alien at 9PM, then a five-minute AvPR preview at 11:10PM and then Predator 2 at 11:15PM

If they do another Alien, Predator, or AVP film, I hope that it's not for another few years so that we have a chance to recover from the last two. I still wish that they had just greenlit James Cameron and Ridley Scott's Alien 5 project. The fact that they had two A list directors who were interested in doing it even after Alien 3 and Alien Resurrection was crazy, and the fact that Fox turned them down is even crazier. Alien / Predator has pretty much turned into your typical Friday the 13th / Halloween / Nightmare on Elm Street crap now though. The only way I can see either series really regaining face is if Fox shoves it back in the vault for a few years until the bad memories of the AVP films wears off. And personally, I'd rather see the franchises seperate again when they return, because I don't think that it's necessary for them to be joined at the hip forever, and in fact I think that that would be bad for both franchises.

It's not bad for them to join. It just needs to be done properly.

I guess I'm in the minority but I enjoyed both AVP films. Of course, I thought that each film had it flaws. The first one's biggest flaw was the short, choppy skirmishes between the creatures. AVPR suffered from not having a strong, central human. I wish that Lathan could have been signed for all AVP sequels because Alexa Woods was a great character with echos of Ripley.

I'm certainly up for a 3rd one. I'd like to see an all-out war between the Yautja and Xenomorphs, preferably on another planet. It would be great if TCF could convince Arnold and/or Sigourney to do cameos but that's probably just a pipe dream.

Can anyone give the specifics on the Unrated version of AVP vs. the Extended version?

If I remember correctly, the only difference with the unrated version is that it adds in extra CG blood into the scenes.

It's so stupid how AVP was practically G-rated, and then in AVP-R they pretty much went overboard with the gore. It's like it was impossible for them to hit just the right spot between being gory and leaving stuff to the imagination (well, in AVP's case, they just plain didn't have any blood in the places where it should have appeared rather than being artistic at all).

Part of why I would like to see another standalone Alien flick is that I would really like to see the Alien mythology explored further, without having to share any spotlight with Predator. I want to know more about the freaky aliens that were carrying the Xenomorphs on that ship in the first movie. What happened to that race? Etc.

I think that right now, the best option is to put the Alien and Predator franchises on the shelf for now. I am kind of doubtful that AVP-R will be able to make the same kind of money at the B.O. as it's predecessors, because it really is like a gorier version of AVP with an even less exotic location. I think Fox got lucky when AVP made 160 million, because a lot of people probably saw it out of curiousity. Now that the "Alien vs. Predator" curiousity has been satisfied though, so I am less than optimistic about AVP-R's chances.

The only way Alien or Predator can return to their former glory IMO is if Fox is willing to shell out real money and hire real talent. Not some hack-job like Paul Anderson, and not some glorified fan-film project like AVP-R. Get people who know what they're doing, are passionate about the project, and give them the money to make it happen. That shouldn't be too hard.

So anyway, I would be okay seeing the Alien and Predator franchises go dormant for now. I would personally like to see both franchises re-launched individually, and then maybe we can see about making Alien vs. Predator 3 happen. But right now, I think that Fox needs to look into repairing the integrity of both franchises rather than ****ing them out again with another AVP-R style quick buck flick.

I'm pretty sure there will be an AVP 3. However, both franchises seem to have a strong fan base despite their respective heydays being 20 years ago. If TCF would decide to let each franchise go alone again after a final AVP, there is clearly a market for that.

giger's work if you ever get to see it is almost all pornographic....

The guy has a very twisted imagination and its like saying 'hey kids seen as you want to play with this toy why not look at these pictures and see how messed up sex really can be...oh yeah and this is how you were made' just in case they were still unsure as to where they came from ha ha
