I'm pretty sure that this has been discussed amongst fandoms for quite awhile now, but i was just curious to get everyone's opinion on this.

Ever since Jimmy's death on the show, revealing Jimmy to have been in fact the Iconic Jimmy Olsen's Older brother instead of the mythos character himself, the producers have kept saying since then that they're trying to align with the mythology by the end of the season.

Heck, the recent and final SV magazine revealed that the whole "Henry" idea had been discussed since the days of Miles and Gough.

So my question is this, if the producers are capable of pulling off something as crappy as that, do you believe that they would be dumb enough to actually go with the route by having some sort of HUGE MINDWIPE/RECTON that would essentially align things with the mythos, such as how no one recognizes Clark as superman and how some ppl who shouldn't know his secret, will no longer know it at the end?

Would the producers actually risk the wrath of devoted fans, thinking that it's clever by pulling off some Dallas type of ordeal in order to align the show into the so called "traditional" mythos?

don't think so much. With SV, you'll only end up injuring your brain.

haha..perhaps, but still..as someone who's been watching the show since it's introduction, I'd hate to think that the producers would be dumb enough to erase on everything that had been built within the context of the story for 9-10 years.

I mean, mindwiping-dallas like endings, would make previous seasons a huge waste, and i just can't see on how they could possibly think that anyone, both fans and cast members would be happy at all about this.

Yeah Gough & Miller have been quoted as saying they have a resolution to get it lined up with the mythos and Clark in the traditional disguise that people may or may not like.

I (as everyone else) am very curious as to what this is and if the new producers are sticking with it or going a different route.

Personally, I think the secret identity should have been established at the start of this season now that Clark is in a "costume" and in full on superhero mode as...it still hurts to say this name...The Blur.

I just don't see how this is going to get resolved at the end of it all. But as you mentioned a mind wipe seems like a very real possibility at the moment.

I agree, but it hasn't stopped them before. Lets just hope they get it right.

What i still dont get is why are they still calling him The Blur now that he is leaving his S mark everywhere. In the comics Lois came up with the name Superman because of the S in the chest and Smallville Lois Lane should start calling him the SuperBlur at least :D

I haven't watched in forever, how did the Jimmy thing go down? Did they have two sons named Jimmy or are they going to name their next son after the dead son?

Well, they were dumb enough to do "Henry James Olsen", change Shelby's gender, retcons like the whole Veritas storyline, Lionel knowing the traveler was coming, etc, etc.

Obviously, something must happen to line up, everyone knows Clark sans glasses, they were stupid enough not to have him wear them last season when he started working at the DP. Also, there are photos of Clark, so unless all of them disappear..... Mindwiping everyone would be creative suicide for TPTB, but Zatanna's magic or a combination of Clark having mental powers and some kryptonian tech could help.

yeah that's the problem though. It would just be a HUGE SLAP to the face of the fans who had been watching the show for so long now, for them to mind wipe everyone in order to align with the mythos.

Maybe it would be accepted if only the general public were mindwiped, but to have the cast of characters mindwiped as well would be dumb and ******ed in every sense of the world.

It'd make previous seasons a waste then.

seriously, I really wish someone who is able to interview them can ask them about this and tell them that most of the fans would never let this go if they went t his route.

well, before the episode "Doomsday" had happened, no one had known that Jimmy had any siblings and such.

and SV's Jimmy's full name was revealed to be "Henry James Olsen", while his younger brother that appeared from nowhere had the traditional name of "James B. Olsen"...so SV's Jimmy had used his middle name to be called as his first one.

totally sure they have done some stupid moves over the years. But a massive world wide mindwipe to fix no one knowing who clark is would be dumb and pointless.

agreed..now if ppl could tell that to the producers, then that'd be a victory unto itself, let alone them getting the freaking point.

totally, i would hope since we know the folks do go to the forums and all that at times. They would see we dont want that to happen. There is so much more they could do. or heck we might not even the world knowing its clark and all that. For example the last episode could end with him in costume going for a save but we dont see it. Heck i cant really think right now of anything. As for the jimmy thing that was a very foul move there. I feel bad for aaron getting screwed there with the character. I never had a problem with the change in the character's age. And since the show has done other things differently dc/wb should have let them keep jimmy going and all that. Though in those interviews with aaron once he left he did say the producers said that it was due to issues with DC comics over the character. But yea they could have handled that thing differently.

agreed..and seeing as how it was revealed that the producers had this whole "Jimmy=Henry" idea since the days of Al Miles and Gough, i'm sure they must have had other crappy ideas on how to align with the mythology.

heck, look at their answer on how they responded to a question on why no one would know clark in the future: Because it's not their problem since it deals with Superman territory:facepalm:

but yeah, there are plenty of ways to go around this issue..it's just pure lazy writing to go with that route. It erases everything that had been established beforehand, and it's just a huge slap to the face of the fans, and their way of saying that they're to lazy of doing anything.

The producers know the fandom, at this year's Comic Con they said they're aware of the criticism online... they know fans want to see Clark flying, but they keep stalling it, so they will do what they think is best for the show even if we don't agree with their choices.

It begs the question, Gough and Millar leaving Smallville was the best for the show? I look at the past few seasons and I would have to say yes...

After seeing Dr. Fate and Hawkman, look exactly as a full fledge Dr. Fate and Hawkman should look like, Im more than confident we will all be happy when this series is over....

yea even though the current/season 8 producers were around during gough/millar days and were writers on some of the crap things that have happened in the show. I think the show has for the most part changed for the better in season 8 and so far in season 9. Now as to how to deal with the whole superman public reveal and all that i still have no clue how they should do it. I just hope how ever the show ends and how they do the publically revealed as superman thing is to justice for us fans who been around since the pilot.

well I do hope that they do give justice to the fans that have been following the show since the Pilot.

I swear, whenever they say that they have " a way" of ending things, I do admit that this worst case scenario does pop in my mind as to what they're thinking about, but for now, I'll give them the benefit of the doubt and just see on what they'll do.

I do feel better that Tom has more leverage now, and given on how he's said that he wants the show to end in a way that would bring justice overall to the fans that have followed the show for so long, i would assume that he woudl be against such a crappy ending.

oh totally i hope the end is a good send off for the show. Also i agree with tom being a co exec producer probably has a good pull with how well things are going so fair this season and all that.

I think the best thing they can do is create a "Psychic blind spot" somehow similar to what they've done with Spider-man. No matter how obvious that Clark is Superman, no one would be able to put 2 and 2 together unless they directly discover that Clark is Supes. Yes its pretty lame, but I can't think of a resolution that would be much better.

yea i made that point myself not to long ago here. Or some combination of that and a hex pair of glasses makes general public(lois included) not remember what clark looked like without glasses or something. Those are pretty much the only logical way things could go. Since we all dont want to see the old card of a mind wipe happening.

really, this all depends on how much of 'Superman' people in the smallville world may see. So far, no one has actually seen the blur. Superman could be treated in the same way.

very possible we just dont know how things will end.

in the end, I always assume that Supes can hear camera's clicking, and move out of their line of fire before a picture can actually be taken. He's certainly been fast enough to do that since highschool, in the context of SV

yea you are right there. What ever they do with clark in full superman suit or if we do get to see him publically reveal self in last episode or what not it better be good.

You forgot to mention that the producers recently confirmed that Lois will not learn Clark's secret on Smallville, even in the finale, in order to 'align with the mythos'

Some fans of their relationship were very upset with that news.

There will definitely need to be some deus ex machina in the final episode.
