Supergirl All About The Ratings!!!!!!

I always have to laugh when people think the ratings went up because of what happened on the show that very night. That isn't how it works...lol You can see that in L3 and L7 viewing, but not in the live viewing...unless it's a 2 parter.
This is very true. If anything, it boost next week's and even then, not really a science.

Yeah, suggesting the content of an episode dictated that episode's ratings (e.g., how many people tuned in) is like suggesting the quality of a movie dictates it's opening weekend numbers - it can't, because people haven't seen it yet. The following weeks determine how well-received a movie was by its audience, as that's when word-of-mouth takes over. If the quality of an episode efffects any ratings at all, it would be the FOLLOWING week's ratings, as the episode either made you want to tune in to see what happens next, or it didn't.

The only thing about an episode's content that CAN effect that very episode's ratings is, like with movies, it's marketing. Really good promo can boost ratings for an ep, but not the quality of the ep itself, since no one's seen it til they've already tuned in.

If the rating and viewership ticked up, it's not because of James being Guardian but rather the cliffhanger at the end of the episode with the Daxamite invasion is.

It is interesting though how so many people in the online media said they weren't going to watch the show because it was going to be so James centric.
And then more people ended up watching the show. Just goes to show that the online audience isn't that big of a factor compared to the overall audience.

Unless they have a Nielsen Box it doesn't matter what they say.

Exactly. Considering the age of a lot of people, chances are they don't even watch on television at all. Probably online.

Though we also know how much blustering this all is. The vast majority of those that say they aren't going to watch most certainly watch.

I still stand by my statement.

But, exactly how did those watching know that at 7/8/9 o'clock when they turned their televisions on, and the Nielsen Box clicked on to register they were watching know that that scene was at the end?

Or, was it the fact that the last episode was a very strong episode and they decided.....HEY, lets check out the next one with a live viewing. :cwink:

Arrow bounced up to a 0.6 last night for the first time since early March.

Solid week for the three Arrowverse shows.

Yeah, I mostly watch shows online these days, including this show.

However, I did tell all my friends with Nielsen boxes to tune in this week, which may explain the Guardian bump :cwink:

You know someone with a Nielsen box?! That's like knowing a unicorn! :oldrazz:

Nope, I was being facetious :gngl:

I honestly try not to pay too much attention to ratings for shows I like, as that is far too stressful.

But the Nielsen rating system has always seemed odd to me. I guess it supposed to be like taking a poll.

Anyway, online viewership must be a pretty big deal now.

In 2024, Nielsen hands their last remaining box over to Samantha, 78. Emmerdale and Dynasty both score 100 in the ratings, all other shows are cancelled.

Actually only 18-49 count for advertisers. So what Sam, at 78, watches would be irrelevant to whether a show is retained or cancelled.

I would just be fine with all the shows holding for the rest of the season now.

None of the shows on this board got cancelled, except Powerless, and I really don't think it counts.

Like Emerald City, Powerless never had a chance.

Powerless started terrible but got better as it went along. The episode with Van Wayne dressed up as Robin was hilarious. But first impressions. So after the first episode most people dropped Powerless like a hot potato.
It was sort of dumb for NBC to pull it though with just two episodes left anyway instead of just letting it play out. It's not like the Superstore episodes did all that much better.

I mean the fact that NBC had no confidence in it in the first place....it just filled a hole for awhile, just like Emerald City.

Saw a few seconds of Powerless...hated it. NBC did not want anything to do with comic book shows. Instead they concentrate on their dramas and reality shows like The Voice which it seems is never reaching its conclusion.

Also on Monday nights is their surprise hit game show The Wall hosted by former MTV Singled Out host and geek extraordinaire Chris Hardwick. Think Plinko from The Price is Right SUPERSIZED with a trivia element and a possibility to LOSE EVERYTHING. I was not sure what to think of it but it has kind of grown on me. Then again aside from comic books I am a game show GEEK!

One of the producers of The Wall...NBA champion LeBron James!

It seems the comic book/super hero shows tend to do better on younger (CW) and male (Fox) skewing networks than they do on the other three. SHIELD is still hanging in there at ABC but that's about it. Constantine and Powerless (plus their Heroes revival nobody asked for) were one and done on NBC, Supergirl was one and done on CBS, and Agent Carter managed a grand total of 18 episodes on ABC.

Hopefully Inhumans can buck that tend on ABC next year. I think most of the cable shows (Legion, Krypton, Cloak and Dagger, Preacher, etc) will do fine or continue to do fine.

And I don't think anybody will be surprised if The Gifted and Black Lightning do well on Fox and CW respectively next year.
