I'm perfectly fine with Gyllenhaal passing on this, to be honest. I was hoping for a bigger role for him, anyway.

Nothing about Flagg really screams like a new/interesting character to me, so save an actor like Gyllenhaal for a role he can sink his teeth into.

I still think the script isn't that great. Gyllenhaal has a free schedule (i think?) and he was mainly offered the role because of his shorthand with the director. Jake turning it down after Hardy tells me the script isn't that special or the role isn't that special.

Which disappoints me. Im down with Joker, Harley and Deadshot being the center of attention but i wanted Rick Flagg to be played by a phenomenal actor, more than just muscle behind Waller. I wanted to see Hardy face to face with Will Smith or even Leto, showing that he's not intimidated and he's in charge.

lol

Gyllenhaal has a Broadway run through Suicide Squad's prep time.

FACT: Tom Hardy and Jake Gyllenhaal both watched Man of Steel after getting the role and realized that they didn't want to be associated with the same universe where Superman slaughters millions of innocent women and children with his bare hands and then does push-ups on top of their ashy graves.

Stephen Lange could be Flag. Although he might be a little old for the part.

omg Gosling also passed, this movie is doomed.
Don't be surprised man these post's are coming. :funny:

Not on here but twitter and tumblr will have the WB don't know what they're doing post's and this movie is doomed to failure already.

Oh for God's sake.

Maybe the project, or the role for that matter, wasn't up his alley. Perhaps this is just a simple case of an actor not being interested in the material enough to dedicate months of his life to it - especially now that said actor has really been hitting his stride as of late and has plenty of projects to pick and choose from.

Or maybe the script is a disaster. Who the hell knows. But by all means, let's jump to conclusions and assume the worst a year and a half out. I mean, Daniel Day-Lewis, Viggo Mortensen, and Chris Cooper all reportedly turned down roles for Batman Begins, and we sure called that dumpster fire of a film.

All sarcasm aside, it's Rick Flagg - probably one of the least flashy roles in a movie dedicated to several very flashy, scenery-chewing villains. I'm hardly going to get myself worked up because A-list actors aren't tripping over themselves and knocking down the gates at WB Studios to grab such a prestigious role.

Reported by a reliable site - Hardy was forced to drop out due to scheduling

Reported by a garbage site - Hardy doesn't like the script and his role was drastically changed

Now Gyllenhall who can do whatever he wants and has been in a whole 2 big movies his whole career passes.

And people think the script must suck and the project is in the ****ter

What a joke

This worries me. Hardy and Gyllenhaal passing on this tells me something isn't right. I also read that Hardys real reason for leaving was due to last minute character changes in the script. Apparently there's some dumb twist or Flagg isn't as huge of a character as originally planned.

Brad Pitt is my only hope for this role because of Fury, and i can see him as that character.

Jake is doing a Broadway play till March. Suicide Squad filming begins in April.

He was unlikely from the beginning.

Might as well close shop on this DCCU.

EXCLUSIVE: Ben Affleck is dropping out due to his irritation at the "v" in "Batman v Superman" not being "vs."

FAIL, WB.

I think it's time to call the film Career Suicide Squad. :o

I heard Affleck is dropping out of his future Batman commitments. Supposedly, Affleck and Cavill despised working with each other, and things really came to a head when Cavill pushed Affleck down a ski slope and broke his leg.

I heard that Gal Gadot has dropped out because a gust of wind blew her away and now she is untraceable.

Tom and Jake need to stick to their neat little indie films...

More of The Drop, Enemy, and Nightcrawler outweigh Suicide Squad/JL/et cetera.
