If it's a one off role, Ayer should reach out to Pitt. I think some others are on the right track with the suggestions of Jon Bernthal, Jason Clarke, and Joel Edgerton. Maybe make a run at Cruise if its a one time role.

Jake is doing a Broadway play till March. Suicide Squad filming begins in April.

He was unlikely from the beginning.

So he's free then..

Actors jump from one project to another sometimes a day after it's finished. It's not like he has to prep for the Joker.

Maybe he wants a bigger role in the universe if he's gonna jump in? I don't know why they were gonna waste Hardy or Jake on what is rumored to be a one off role. There are better characters for both.

Unless they're in peak shape already, actors usually devote considerable prep time to getting ready for an action role - at least a couple of months of an intense workout schedule. He may not have wanted to do that while engaged in his Broadway run. Or maybe he has better offers for lead roles in other films that he's contemplating or the part of Flagg just didn't appeal enough to him. It could be any number of factors.

Well it's a scheduling conflict for Hardy. I don't know the reason for Jake's pass is though. I've got a good idea as to why he passed on it though. Considering his last three performance's in Prisoners, Enemy, and Nightcrawler.

We dont know if a scheduling conflict is the whole story. That's what they want us to believe. Yes, it could be just that, but i believe the rumor that Hardy wasn't happy with the new direction of his character since Gyllenhaal now decided to pass. And he's a dude with a free schedule who can be in a superhero movie (like he's open to) for a friend that he's worked with before....with a few big actors to work with. Sounds fishy to me. 2 top dogs pass on a project, im gonna guess that the script isn't worth their time.

Since when is Flagg a big character? And in the movie you have Joker with Jared Leto in the role and Will Smith is in as well. Hardy or Flagg would never have been the main man.

Southpaw started filming June of 2014, Jake is not jacked anymore.
