The Academy members only vote what they get to see -- not what they went to see. In that case, it was WB who submitted Ledger for consideration in nominating him for best supporting Actor (note not leading role).

There was the fact that he was nominated once before for his role in Brokeback Mountain. In fact he was nominated for BAFTA, Golden Globe and several other awards for his role in Brokeback Mountain. He exceed his Brokeback performance in his role as the Joker.

So please stop with this bs about his death being a factor.

*Going off for my afternoon run & exercise.

I don't really disagree with you, but his death played no factor at all?

Seriously that picture has elevated my hype level so much. That's my Supes! Also can anyone translate the German on the page? Curious to know what it says.
So, let me get this straight..... Just because he smiles in this photo, your expectations went up? Why? Because you want a smiley superman that just zooms around all day smiling into the camera? Well then stay home when this comes out because you will be sorely disappointed. Superman in the comics didn't even smile 24/7. This is a realistic take and realistically if you were being given s*** for leveling a city in attempts to save the world and had to kill the last remaining person in your entire race to do so... You wouldn't be so bubbly all the time. He is a good person as it was shown in MOS but that's not enough.. No, you guys want him to have a s*** eating grin on allllllllll damn day.

Honestly I'm not trying to be a d*** but you "Supes should smile all the time" advocates wear thin.

I really don't think anyone is expecting him to smile 24/7(at least I don't, STAS Supes didn't smile a lot either), but I do like there will be some scenes of Superman, helping people in their time of need. Having some scene when he smiles would be great and for I would appreciate couple of these moments spread out through the movie, especially near the end.

So basically a Marvel v Dc awards show. The fanboys will explode.

Good Lord, don't give me nightmares.

If they were to put all those fan boys in one award show, they would eat each other, and the building would burn down

I know, I know...

But think of the fun...

Also, Supes was unable to save 5000 innocent lives. (For every human life he would have tried to save, Zod would have taken many, many more.) Think that wasn't a bitter pill to swallow?

Yeah, smiling is unrealistic.

I don't think there will be a problem of a lack of smiling. It will largely depend on how many distinct scenes Superman has where he's saving people.

Yeah, smiling is unrealistic.
Oh so you're gonna be the wise a** who takes my comment out of context? Ok then let me make it clearer for the sarcastic people who might read my post like yourself. I'm fine with him smiling, it's a human thing to do, however it is not human to have someone smiling 24/7 like they don't have a care in the world. It's fine for superman to be the optimist and to be a beacon of hope, but at the end of the day he was raised human and has human emotions and no human (unless they're crazy!) would be such a jolly happy go lucky "Aw shucks" kind of person all day every day, especially with all the s*** that happened in MOS. However that also doesn't mean that he has to always be dark and sad or angry either. I mean he has a job now, a girl and seems to be doing well.

Though you also have to realize that Batman comes along in this story and (even though not pshyically) he poses a threat and you all have to come to terms with the fact that you will probably not have a very photogenic Supes in this film either.

Please go back and read my post and highlight where I said I want Superman to "smile all the time". I just prefer the hero who is supposed to inspire hope and instill a sense of relief to not be a miserable f**k all the time.

The difference is Superman can't brood like Batman and hide in the shadows. He has to smile and hide emotions because he has a face the public depends on.

And in the earlier post I was referring to him saving people in a classic Superman fashion.

Yeah, that's probably what people were looking for, but we know there will be Day of the Dead scene and space rocket

He'll definitely be smiling when he jumps in that tub with Lois :atp:

So going by that picture I'm guessing this:

Is immediately followed by this:

I looks like he's looking at that burning building and thinking "seriously guys that building is burning down and you're obsessed with trying to touch me?"

In no way shape or form am I or anyone else saying that Supes should be broody or hide in the shadows but he should also not do what you're saying and "hide emotions". He should be a symbol and a beacon of hope but I just don't want a Supes who is going to act all patriotic, PC and happy go lucky. He should be a good man with good morals but he doesn't need to be fake and he wasn't in Snyder's take.

Also maybe I'm crazy but where was he ever a "Miserable f***" in MOS? Cause what I saw was a young man who had it a little rough in previous yrs trying to find himself rise up and be the hero the world needed. Just so you know, the Supes you're describing exists in the Donner verse so go watch those, but skip over the parts where he is in pain or fighting because they forgot film some takes where he is smiling and telling a joke while having kryptonite in his face.

Completely irrelevant information, but the girl Supes is saving/carrying there just so happens to be this insanely good choreography dancer who's Youtube-famous. Damn hot too. :o

...Well aren't you just a ray of sunshine. Sorry, not trying to be a d*** but it actually IS nice to see one single smile on Superman's face. He can be super grimdark for the rest of the film now!!!!!!

agreed Clark should be allowed to have emotions while being a symbol of hope. Saying he should hide his emotions, is never a healthy thing to do. Being Superman is not easy, and Clark should be able to breathe and express himself when he is Clark and when he is Superman.

Man, these YouTube stars are living the dream. I want some of that pie

I looks like he's looking at that burning building and thinking "seriously guys that building is burning down and you're obsessed with trying to touch me?"

Or even, "I couldn't save everyone, why are they treating me like a god?"

The people who want a jovial, smiling Superman should realize that Superman has a burden greater than Spider-Man. He's expected to be a god, but he isn't. He has to choose whom he saves. He can't be everywhere at once.

And in the midst of these limitations and expectations, he's got a government that doesn't trust him, a vocal minority that hates him, a larger majority that worships him, and a boss that slights him.

At this point, Superman has come to terms with who he should be, but the world hasn't. So there's still bound to be some anxiety and stress from such a large burden. Remember, as far as he knows, he's the only one who can do this. But come Justice League, there's Wonder Woman, Flash, Aquaman, Cyborg, and Batman.

So I think we should be a bit more patient.

I have a feeling that scene will be emotional, especially if it ends after an series of montage shots of Superman saving people like the rumor suggests
