I know this isn't the BO thread, but I'll throw my numbers in the ring. Conservatively, I'll say it breaks 180 mil, my gut tells me it cracks 200 mil, and if it hits 220 mil I'll be pleasantly surprised.

Anyone who thinks this only opens to 20 mil more then MoS is out of there mind.

It is called managing expectations. The last thing WB wants is for BvS to be looked upon as a failure out of the gate.

Last year, Ultron was tracking to 215-230M according to some "box office observers". Then Disney made the fatal mistake of releasing this info on Friday morning of all times

Disney just now stating it expects #AvengersAgeOfUltron to top $200M this wknd. Says record is "in sight." #Avengers

This caused a 190M OW to be viewed as a major disappointment in the media.

Another example is the Hunger Games movies all causing Lionsgate stock prices to crash due to unrealistic expectations.

I don't think WB wants a repeat of that, temper expectations and announce it loudly when the movie exceeds expectations.

Yeah, I think it is better for the tracking numbers to be low. And when the movie blows past $190 m+ (my expectation), it will be seen as a success from a certain angle.

The other problem with Hunger Games Mocking Jay 2 is that it broke the pre-sale ticket record (before Star Wars crushed it) so the hope was very high. It under performed badly. It's as if everyone that wanted to see Mocking Jay 2 bought presale tickets. It's certainly not an exact science.

This man knows what he's taking about. :wowe:

AFAIK, Darkseid does not do mind control. His powers are mainly the Omega Beam (teleportation, transmutation of matter --destruction/creation), super strength, speed and stamina equivalent to Superman.

Granny Goodness does though, the single greatest episodes of the DCAU (IMO) Legacy showed that.

What I got out of the mini review is that I definitely feel that Supes will die...

Yep --Roach mentioned it and I thought of some of Darkseid's minions.

so.....what did I miss??

sounds like some spoilers were released or something?

Mockingjay 2 didn't break any Presales records. It sold less tickets than even Mockingjay 1. The first Hunger Games and Catching Fire did set presale records.

The shorts... Why the heck did Bruce allow this?

Well, maybe it's just me, but if you look at the shorts, the perspective is all wrong when compared to the angle of the rest of the suit, making the right leg of the short longer than the left one...maybe I'm just seeing things that are not there, but it looks like me like the legs there were cut or something; maybe some in-story reasoning as Robin actually using trousers and having his legs cut/burnt/whatever leaving the suit's legs damaged, while visually retaining the iconic image of Robin's suit "shorts"...

Or maybe I'm just seeing what I want to see...(certainly wouldn't be the first fan to do so...:sly: )

Polux

Well poo... I could have sworn that was the case during the SW:TFA presale hype. Guess I was wrong. Save this post. It's legend.

:woot:

Nice!!

Can you show me what made you think that?

I can see that too. Maybe... just maybe...that's the scene Anthony says the most cynical eye to tear up?

Maybe after BvS fight, they come on the same side to fight doomsday. Maybe Doomsday hurts Superman pretty bad. Honestly, I can't imagine another scene between Bats and Supes to make me tear up especially considering they just fought each other.

I think it might mean someone else dies and they have a moment together.

If Superman dies I think it's too soon.

...you never were...but could have been...cough, cough,...my friend. :sly:

Here is the relevant part from the Star Wars story: http://variety.com/2015/film/news/star-wars-the-force-awakens-ticket-sales-1201621977/

There are already sellouts, particularly in Imax screenings, and to meet the demand, movie theaters are continually adding show times, the online ticketer reports. “Star Wars: The Force Awakens” presales also broke every Imax record, generating over $6.5 million. The film eclipsed “The Dark Knight Rises,” “The Hunger Games: Catching Fire” and “Avengers,” which each earned around $1 million for their first reported presales.

If TDKR earned $1M for presales in 24 hours, BvS is probably around 1.25M or more since it has already exceeded TDKR in presales as per Deadline.
