The Avengers Amanda Righetti is Sharon Carter

Having her still be alive kind of takes away a bit of the poignancy of the ending of Cap. Yea he still missed out on having a life with her but he'll still be able to see her again. I rather she had passed on and have Sharon bring Steve to the grave of Peggy at the end of Avengers instead.

In some ways, seeing a elderly version of Peggy could prove to be more tragic than it would have been had she already been dead... I think.

I mean for one thing, it's like being given a bigger reminder on what they missed out on, and even though they're reunited, they both know that they could never have the life that they wanted with each other since it's too late, so it's more bittersweet than anything.

Yea, I see what your saying but like you said it would seem pretty weird to see Cap fall for Sharon with Peggy still being alive and still being part of Steve's life to an extent.

Also on my other point, hasn't it been stated that Steve was Cap for 3 years before being frozen? So does that mean Peggy was 15 when they first met?

Well, if I'm not mistaken, the events of Iron Man 1 took place in 2008. Iron Man 2 only took place 6 months after Iron Man 1, with Thor and the Incredible Hulk having taken place not too long after that.

I'd say that Steve's body was discovered within the same year as well. So if you go by the notion that all of these things took place in 2008, and that Peggy is 88 in 2008, then that would mean that she was born in 1920.

The events of Captain America begin in 1942, so she'd be about 22 at the start of the film, and 25 by the end of it.

And Peggy could very well "die" not long after her reunion with Steve.

Is Peggy still alive in the comics?

I think there have been cases where she was alive (but very old of course) when Steve came out of his slumber.

The problem I see with that is Fury told Steve he was asleep for 70 years at the end of Cap. By that logic if Peggy is 88 years when he woke that means Peggy was 18 when he froze. And I've read over in the Cap thread that he was destroying Hydra bases for 3 years after he became Cap. Therefore, she was 15 when he met her while still skinny.

If everything above I said is true than thats obviously a plot hole they didn't think about when deciding Peggy's age, she should be at least 5 years older to 93.

I thought Nick Fury's choice of words was specifically "Almost 70 years" instead of saying 70 years flat out. If CA was frozen in 1945 then for it to be 70 years exactly, his body would have been found then in 2015.

So if it's really 2008 that he was discovered in, it would only have been 63 years exactly that had passed since.

^Alright at earliest that Cap could possibly have been unfrozen is 2008 so then Peggy would've been born in 1920, age 22 when we first see her. A lot more believable than 15 but still pretty young. Fury should've said over 60 years, instead of almost 70.

lol; well having one eye and all must have affected his math skills.lol

I still don't think we have any confirmation on Righetti playing Carter. I was the first to guess though when I heard she was cast since she had a small featured role at the end of Captain America.

Peggy was very much still alive when Cap came out of deep freeze.
Cap's modern age comics began in the 1960s, and they were still only two decades removed from WWII at that point. So Peggy was in her 50s, and still a very active SHIELD agent. She also played cougar to young Steve, and he juggled relationships with both gray-haired Peggy and hot-blonde Sharon (Sharon and Steve kept their relationship on the down-low for a long, long time).

Obviously, that same scenario doesn't play out when Peggy's 80something and Sharon is 20something in the movies.

Not unless Steve Rogers is a huge fan of the bizarre Harold and Maude movie.

So the issue is Peggy's age? There's no way in the world she is a teen in the movie. The youngest would have to be is at least 21/22 years old....that would make her 25 by the end of the movie, and 90 something when Cap gets unfrozen. Women do live longer than men; you hear of people living well into their 90's all the time, so it's quite plausible.

I really do hope Peggy is still alive during The Avengers/Cap 2. It's very plausible. And I do hope they have Steve dance with her. That could make for a really sweet (and possibly bittersweet) moment.

He could always exhume her dead body and dance with her corpse. :wow:

Of course, that seems more like the sick act of someone like the Joker.

Since we're talking about the movie-verse, IM1 and Hulk were released in 2008, IM2 in 2010 and Thor and CA this year, it's very likely that Cap woke this year, since, let's say he crashed in 1945 (Most likely since Hitler died that year too and saw people cheering hooray), it would be 66 years (round it of- nearly 70y, as Nick stated)

Now, the film starts in 1942, Rogers became Cap that same year and became a 'mascot' for a year, until in 1943 in Italy, where he became Cap for real. Now, who said that Cap was destroying Hydra bases for 3 years? Because if that's so, then Hitler would've been dead by now and the war would've been over.

Now, in my opinion, let's say (ignoring the 'real' birth dates, and following the actual birth dates of the actors), Cap and Peggy are in their mid-late 20s when the plane crashed, so, after 66 years of being frozen, Peggy is most likely to be in her 90s.

Correct me if I'm wrong :wow::wow:

"Peggy has a baby brother born in 1950 or so...."
....wha....??? :wow::huh:

Look, doing the math, Peggy would have been born in the 1920s, like most of what is called "The Greatest Generation." How many families (besides Strom Thurmond) do you know that would have a 30-year gap between siblings, barring some bizarre AARP adoption kick?

Quite simply, there are at least three generations removed from the younger generations (teens and 20s) that fought WWII. The grandchildren of WWII vets are in their 40s (I know --- I'm one of them, and I'm 45), so Amanda Righetti would have to be a generation removed even farther than *mine.*

So....great-grandniece at best.

But yeah, as long as they keep the bloodline there, I don't care....she can be a great-grandniece or great-granddaughter, and that would explain why Sharon would only faintly resemble Peggy.

Well, I have a brother that's 25 years older than me. I'm YOUNGER than you and had a grandfather that fought in World War ONE. Yes, it happens and I can testify to that fact. Sharon as Peggy's niece works fine.

Just change it to grand daughter :p .

Also I mean, if Tony is Howard's son, why can't Peggy have an adult niece? Sharon doesn't have to be in her 20's.

I agree, Sharon should be Peggy's granddaughter. The niece angle just doesn't have as much weight. Also, I really like the idea of a scene where Steve finally dances with a very old Peggy. The thought of it really is heartbreaking. Peggy could believably be in her late 80s & they could run with a wonderful dynamic that Spielberg used in HOOK where Peter Pan remained close friends with Wendy (his first love) despite his inability to age. He ends up marrying Wendy's granddaughter once he allows himself to "grow up". Peggy could do what Wendy does and provide Steve & Sharon with her blessing despite having quiet reservations about Steve's superhuman metabolism which may seemingly make him incapable of aging. It worked great in HOOK and it could work very well here. Not to mention I'd love to see Atwell again, even if she looks like she's 90.

I agree .. it would be more emotional than if she were to have died, I dont think he will fall for sharon right away. Like someone poster eariler she could die not long after.

There was an episode in justice leauge called savage time where wonder woman goes back in time to the war and fights along side an american solider he falls in love with her but she has to go back to her own time ... when she does you see her going to an old age home and he is there, they just sit and watch the sunset together ... very nicely done . The whole steve/peggy story reminded me of it, I would like to see somthing like that done.

I'm glad that I'm not the only one who thought of the similarities between Steve/Peggy and Wonder Woman/Steve Trevor (yes his name is Steve and he's a blonde as well.lol)

Needless to say, if they do conclude his arc in the avengers with a visit to a elderly Peggy, there will be a few tears sprouting from some of the audience members who grew to adore this relationship from CA.

Excellent guess. It's confirmed on IMDB now.

IMDB is not a good source for confirmation.

Fiege and JJ in an interview said Peggy is still alive, so HA!

Too bad no one can't get Peggy some youth potion or something. I just can't see anyone at the time being topping Peggy Carter as a love interest for Captain America.
