Comics Amazing Spider-Man #1 (ugh) By Ryan Ottley! and Nic Spencer

Here's a preview page for the upcoming Hunted arc. Like I said, I don't care much for Ramos' art, but this looks pretty good actually.

Amazing Spider-Man's Hunted Arc is a 'Bookend to Kraven's Last Hunt'

So...
I haven't really seen any discussion as to the mystery villian going on.
Anyone have any ideas?
He/She definitely knows Peter is Spider-Man.
He/She is also very upset that Felicia knows Pete is Spidey.
He/She has been behind Mysterio's resurrections.

More Felicia? Yes please. And at least it's being written by Spencer.

The thing with Ramos, he'll do a decent page like this and the very next page looks he was sneezing while drawing it. It goes from decent to outright ugly. But unfortunately he turns in more ugly than decent. I hate it.

I'm at a loss. I've pondered some possibilities but really I haven't a clue. But...what we know...is this person/thing likes making deals. It made a deal with Mysterio to I dunno bring him back to life. A deal with Stromm that ended with him dead. And there's probably a deal with Fisk cause this entity has some power over him. I mean who in the hell would Fisk kneel before? It's gotta be some kind of demonic thing, right? What about Macendale? Could be Tendril too. Might be a longshot but what about Jonathan Ceaser? It could also be a new mystery character being retconned into the story.

I don't have a clue as to who the mystery villain is either, although I am wondering if he has a connection to Mephisto?

If it is a Mephisto connection, does this mean they are working to OMD?

Also, one thing I forgot to mention is this mystery figure was upset about Felicia knowing Peter's identity. I'm still feeling clueless but there might be another hint in that info, possibly.

Check out a video on Youtube titled "How Nick Spencer Redeemed Spider-Man" by GodzillaMendoza. I would link it here but he drops a couple of F-bombs and I don't wanna incur a demerit.

The vid does a good job of pointing out the improvements made with the current writer over the previous one. Nothing we haven't discussed here but entertaining still.

I may check that out later. Also, I think the whole Slott run somewhat soured my view of half of the Spidey suits in the PS4 game. I saw the Big Time suit, and I was like, That one wasn't THAT bad...then I saw the bulletproof armor (which was from Slott's best arc) and the other two Spider-armors...and I was like, "remember when Spider-Man didn't NEED armor because he could...you know...dodge bullets and stuff"?

Between Infinity War, Spidey PS4, Amazing Spider-man, and Spider-Man: Into the Spider-verse, 2018 was a great year for Spidey.

Except that Steve Ditko died and marvel barely acknowledged it.
They did put a tribute in the front of the comics, that was pretty nice. Also, by not making a giant fuss over his passing, it was more in keeping with his spirit. He was a recluse and didn't like a lot of attention, so a modest acknowledgement is fitting. Stan lived loud, and he kept his hand son the Marvel Universe in some way, shape, or form all along. Doing more for Stan makes more sense.

That's probably what Steve would have wanted going by his status...a simple low profile thank you.

I don't remember a page dedication to him. Kirby, the recent girl, Lee and many others all got one. Not just that, but ya, while he was a recluse, Marvel should have done something a little more to make it known that one of the Big Three of Marvel had passed away. Almost nobody outside of us "old timers" really knows who he is or what he did.

He got a 2 or three page deal in some Marvel comics showcasing the scene from ASM #33, if I'm not mistaken. It was in my Marvel books that month. I'll have to check the issue numbers. I know it was in an issue of ASM and Venom too, I think...

Yep. ASM #3. It also had a pic of Dr Strange along with a short farewell speech.

I apologize in advance for this off topic post:
I just lost my best friend to a sudden massive heart attack.
He was 38. We've known each other since we were 13.
It was our shared love of Comics that made us become quick friends.
Specifically, Spider-Man (me) and X-Men (Josh)
I'm just having a really extremely hard time dealing with this.

I'm sorry for your loss. I sometimes wish I had someone in my personal life that shared my passion for comics. Anyway, I hope you find peace and get some help if you find yourself struggling...sudden loss like this can be overwhelming. Take care.

Read issue#13...

This closes out the arc with JJJ. Without spoiling anything there's a nice turn at the end and Peter makes some great points to JJJ. It'll be interesting to see how their relationship continues.

The art was fantastic. Ottley is getting into a stride and then come to see at the end of the issue that Bachalo is doing the art for issue 14. I think I may have already known that but I wish Ottley was on the book more consistently.

Overall this was pretty solid. Probably my last favorite arc thus far but not at all bad, far from it. The end of the book leaves you hanging and wanting more...I'm ready for this to start picking up and get into some new ground...it's exciting imo.

Issue 13 gets a B.

I wish this sub forum was more active. The comics for Spidey are finally good again and there's no one to talk to...

Going back over this last arc with JJJ, I feel like it's actually better than when I first read it. There's some real nuance here. I gotta give Spencer a lot of credit for taking what Zdarsky established with Peter and JJJ and adding to it then making it his own. Really well done. And at the end it's Peter who ends up being the moral compass...haven't seen this type of character work in like forever.

Well, I would post more, but I rarely get to the comic shop anymore. 45 minute drive to spend money gets LESS appealing the older I get, even if the comics are good!

It's just good to have the Spider-Man books feeling like home again. I read this article today (couldn't bare to watch the video), and I just gagged. I liked some of his work, but how can he truly be so deluded as to think the problem that he had was not taking it far ENOUGH?!
Ugh. Talking about Dan Slott, obviously. You know, the guy who got Iron Man and FF and hasn't kept them monthly since starting them? The same guy. I hope everything is all right, but I still hark back to a time when you were supposed to keep deadlines AND turn in quality work.

Behind the Panel: Dan Slott shares his Spider-Man regrets and Fantastic Four future

You could always do digital for your comics. It would definitely save you time and money.

There's only like 5 regulars in this section. I wish as many people watching the movies were as interested/involved in reading comics.

I'm not at all interested in what Dan has to say. About anything. He's like a cancer for Spider-Man and after 10 years of dread we're finally in remission. Dan's middle name is deluded, lol. Or it should be. He was a horrible writer for Spider-Man and I bid him a good riddance.

Unfortunately the effect he made still looms large over the title for me.

Well, I think I'm more suited just ordering them online from Midtown or something. Digital comics hold NO interest to me. I like the feeling of a comic in my hands. I still buy them for my children. I want them to know that feeling, and so far, they have that. I want to be a penciller in one of these big books one day, so it's hypocritical of me not to buy some. I just don't buy many for me any more. I guess my time is done.
Personally, the old fogey in me just wants to save money and buy the old books. ASM is just so good, right now...and FNSM seems really good, and the Symbiote Spider-man mini looks fun...

Yeah, I was looking at the Hype boards the other day. I remember never posting in community forums because it was like a warzone. You would comment, and there were 30 replies between your comment and the end in about 10 minutes. Now...there are a few active threads, and that's about it. Kid of sad to see, but I guess it's the natural progression of things.

To each their own. I was just offering some assistance to help you out with getting to read the comics. I totally get you wanting to hold the comics...I myself prefer hard copies of all things, not just comics, over digital content. But it is what it is, in terms of progression. People nowadays, it's so much easier to download than to do stuff by mail or drive places.

Best of luck to you on getting a job as a penciler. I've tried my hand at drawing...I'm okay. I'd love to be good enough to earn a job but I just don't have the time it takes to commit to becoming excellent in the craft.
