Ok, Vermin is another bland boss fight
Then comes the slayers, with change of scenery from sewers to over the city, and a pretty fun battle

I'm enjoying this game more, but the thing about "boss fights that aren't robots built to mitigate the bio-hazard are bland" strikes me even truer, and they built real good boss fights in their two earlier entries

BTW, the comment "Who's having a good time? Raise your hands" easily sounds better thrown by Neil Patrick Harris
I like Reigil less as Spider-Man's voice than I originally felt, wish Josh voiced Spidey instead. Don't hate Reigil, I can tolerate Vaughn, so Donatello here easily sounds easier on the ears, but I wish Keaton was the voice

Thought I'd like this one more than Spider-Man 2, but looks to me like I like it as much as Ultimate Spider-Man right now, and that one was my least favorite of the 5 good Spider-Man games, but it is at least a good sign, good Spider-Man game No. 6 is here, and I'm enjoying it
The things this one did better than Spider-Man 2 with all ease:
  • Graphics
  • Voice acting
  • Adding the web rush
  • Spider-Man jumps out of the water instead of the black screen
  • No pre-requisite tasks to move forward in story

Something :awesome: to think about this game: I have it full, for free, no darn Steam requiring me to sign in to it to play :awesome:

There is one more thing I don't like much about the game, during free roam it has only one track, and barely a moment of silence

Don't remember enough about SM2 tracks, but there was silence
USM has two tracks, and comforting length of no tunes making it fun to listen to the tracks when they rewind
SM3 has plenty, one calm, one heroic, one for city life, and maybe 13 tracks all together for the red & blue suit, and there was still that nice amount of time with no tunes in free roam

They need to fix that fault they made here in future games

More things to say:

Spider-Man babbles too much about everything, that's growing to be annoying, I'm considering playing the rest of this game on mute
What the heck is "Stay Frosty"? Why say this to people he saves from attackers?
......................

It's good, the game is still good, but I'm glad I didn't need to pay for this, cause at the moment I don't think I'd pay more than $30 bucks for a new copy of the game if I was to buy it

I want to say it's very easy, but then I'd be lying, I lost a few time in some parts. Playing on Hero, and I like their decision of making the choice of difficulties available, and replaying missions

Two things it used from the film:
The web lines to follow the vibration, didn't expect the need to move the stick forward to feel the vibration, but I like this move. Good thing they copied it, I like this move
The thing with the car thief knife is fine in that scene, doesn't feel as charming, it feels kinda face cringing
..............................

Too soon for me to rate the game since I'm barely halfway through, but now I'm tempted to give the game grade B-, hopefully it will go better

Sorry guys but The Amazing Spider-Man is the BEST Spider-Man game since "Spider-Man" for PS1 back in 2000

It's honestly the best game for feeling more so like Spider-Man.

Now true the game does has it's issues, and there are things here and there the could have been put in the game that other Spidey game shave done a better job at (for example random things happening ALL the time in the city and certain kids of missions such as SM2, USM, and SM3)

but over all, as far as gameplay, story, presentation, graphics, animation, controls, music, and voice acting..this is THE BEST Spider-Man game and a perfect game to celebrate the wall crawler's 50th anniversary.

There aren't too many MAJOR issues I have with the game. Any REAL complaints I have would really be just nit-picks.

For Beenox's first crack at a free roaming game, they did a damn good job.

The city definitely is more alive than the past Spidey games.

Citizens actually come up to you and talk about the current events in the game instead of just the usual "GO SPIDEY!" or "YOUR A MENACE" that's been done so many times before and You can actually get ppl to talk to you by pressing the attack button to say something first.

The city could have used more landmarks and what not to make it MORE like NYC but again Beenox's first crack so I'll let is slide.

The graphics for the city itself are the best in a Spidey game yet, def. more detailed and vivid than before

Pedestrians don't just walk around, alot of them do many different things such as read newspapers, talk on their cellphones talk amongst each other, and even strut down the street like Tobey in SM3 (I kid you not).

The camera angles I've seen some ppl complain about but to me its fine. At first I was worried about the camera being too close on Spidey but it's not and it does indeed pull back a little when u run or swing and especially during combat.

The camera turns on and angle when u are near death and it appears there are 3 or 4 modes of the screen getting red around the edges and the sound getting distorted and his breathing getting heavier. It's fairly easy to tell when ur about to die.

Other times when the camera is an an interesting angle is during web rush, web swinging, and aerial battles against the Spider-slayers high above the streets of NYC which i absolutely LOVE, it takes me back to being a 9 year old kid on The Amazing Adventures of Spider-Man ride and how it made me feel like i was really flying through the air during Spidey's battle against the Sinister Syndicate.

Web Rush is the most amazing thing about the game and it's so very useful. Fans seem to complain about web zipping in games and how they hate it but honestly if done right it's a very cool and useful feature and it's revamp for TASM is the best version yet.

The Combat is actually pretty solid. While i'm not too fond of "free flow" combat as seen in the Arkham games and prefer to actually have a combo list and do certain moves, I was surprised at how well it was pulled off in this game and how you actually can do your own combos, you just have to experiment with different button combinations. I'm still discovering new moves that I can do in the game when combining the attack, doge, jump, and web buttons.

I love how you are not FORCED into having to take a stealthy approach every time stealth is suggested for a mission. If you are skilled enough you can just jump into the fray and make short work of your enemies.

I like the RPG elements of leveling up and purchasing upgrades with XP

The game PERFECTLY captures the essence of Spider-Man, every movement, from walking, to running, to jumping to swinging and leaping through the air, twisting and turning, crouching and landing its looks and feels just that way you'd imagine Spider-Man would do it. To the pijtn where it almost feels like an interactive movie rather than simply a video game.

In temrs of boss battles ppl have complained about them being pretty basic and bland if it's not a fight against the Slayers, but honestly when have the boss fights in Spidey games against ever been THAT deep?

I mean sure some of them had more thought processes put into them other than simply attack and dodge, but at the end of the day some bosses when put in a Spidey game don't require fights that are that in depth, Sad that the fights against hunters and slayers are the best but that's how the cookie crumbles. And I gotta say, those fights are EPIC especially against the S01 and S02.

Fights against everyone else are generic and can be a little bland at times but still fun and enjoyable.

I know some ppl don't like it, but i'm sorry, the webslinging/swinging in this is the best yet. True u may not go as fast as SM2 and can't make urself do loop de loops and air tricks and stuff and the webs don't attach to buildings but it's still a blast.

You don't focus too much on the webs not attaching and u just have fun swinging through the city, switching it up with web rush and just jumping over rooftops.

It's just so much damn fun, and idk how to explain the way u webswing but i can get it to go pretty damn fast. and that combined with he camera being closer, and the different angles, and the incredible sense of vertigo just makes it an amazing experience unlike any of the previous Spidey games.

To me, Just about all the Spidey games had something to offer that the other didn't that I hope one day is combined into one Spidey game.

Games for PS1 got the feeling of being Spidey right first and the "What If?" Mode. SM1 had an extensive combo list, SM2 the open world and going into buildings, USM had Queens in the city, the most challenging trick races ever, and i preferred the comic book style graphics and the cutscenes with the panels and word sound effects, SM3 had subways and sewers, WoS combat of going from ground to wall to air, and TASM having Web Rush, a more tweaked/better free flow combat system, amazing realistic graphics, suit damage, voice acting and music, camera, webswinging, comic books to read, take pictures, etc.

'NUFF SAID (unless of course I think of something to add later lol)

What the heck is "Stay Frosty"? Why say this to people he saves from attackers?

Stay frosty is a slang term or slang phrase rather that means Be Alert. Spidey's basically saying watch your back and be aware of your surroundings so you don't end up getting mugged again. I've heard this phrase used in movies and literature involving dialogue between soldiers.

The 2000 game is still the definite Spidey game for me

out of nostalgia, yeah, nostalgia aside?

TASM is the winner.

I didn't even enjoy the story for TAS-M. As I said before, TAS-M was only fun because of the web swinging and my only favorite battle was with that giant snake slayer. Didn't care for Rhino, Iguana, et cetera.

I did not care for ASM for swinging at all. It felt so much more restricted. The only upside in this regard was the helicopters.

For swinging?
Spider-Man 2
or
Web of Shadows

For overall gameplay?
Shattered Dimensions
or
Ultimate Spider-Man

For nostalgia?
Maximum Carnage! :D

I might be the only one who liked Enter Electro more than Spider-Man (2000)

I love them both equally, but when it comes to training, Enter Electro gets more love from me

I just don't like the whole symbiote thing in SM(2000). I loved the Venom stuff though, and Carnage, just not the symbiote goons. I hate those levels!

I'm not sure if any one else noticed this or not but Spidey's quips actually change throughout a melee encounter depending on how well you are doing during the fight. If you are getting a high combo number and not taking any damage or maybe just a hit or two, Spidey's quips are lively, cocky, and he antagonizes the enemies...i.e. "Here's your face in the dirt!" "Oooo that's gotta hurt!" "I call this one Cavalcade of Bruises!", etc. But then if you start taking too much damage and not getting a good combo streak, Spidey's quips start becoming angry and repetitive...i.e. "Stop smiling at me!" "Stop it already!" "I wish you'd stop!"

I just thought that was a pretty cool little detail that Beenox threw in there.

I just saw this article that talks a bit about the issues with the story and characters and dealing with both Marvel and Sony. It just makes me think with all the separate parties involved in making a movie based on a licensed property, that we'll never get a great story from a movie game. There are even restrictions from Marvel that make it difficult to design some interesting gameplay systems around Spider-Man.

That's why I give Beenox mad props for making such a great game with enduring a steep hill to climb to get there with all the red tape they had to cut through.

This quote at the end of the article sounds like the next game will have even more content and sounds exciting:

“In the end, we got about 80 percent of what we wanted to get into the game done in time and polished in time to ship with it,” Nicholas said. “We still have another 20 percent of all sorts of extra combat content that I’m not going to talk about. All sorts of environmental interactions and prop interactions that are definitely on our current slate… for some future iteration of the game. They’re the things that we wanted to do, but we just didn’t have the time at the end.”

I noticed it too and I liked it, but the "Stop smiling at me!" got so annoying after a while, much like "Stay frosty!". They probably didn't have time but next time I want more variety when it comes to that.

Very interesting article!

There really seem to be alot of time spent on such negotiations. Which is a good thing at one hand, because you definitely want Spidey done right. But on the other hand, it really takes away time from getting further I think. And some stuff have really hindered the best.

As it said in the article, Webb and Arad were pushing for the whole cross species thing and limiting choices of villains. This really took down the game a few levels because to me, it was really boring to face off against these cross species and it hurts me to see classic villains such as Rhino and Scorpion get the treatment they got in the game.

Also, it seems that Sony cared more about what villains died/got closure in the game rather than what villains were put in, because the article said that Sony didn't want certain characters to have closure in the game, taking into consideration that Sony might want to use them in a future film. I think those specific characters are [BLACKOUT]Lizard and Black Cat[/BLACKOUT]. But it might also be about not including villains such as Kraven, because while a perfect fit for the story of the game, he still wasn't included. They most likely didn't want villains such as Green Goblin, Venom or Doc Ock in the game as well.

It's interesting that Marvel was part of negotiations about stuff such as combat. They should've been that in SD and EoT as well :P

It's also interesting that Web Rush was made mostly because of the movie itself and not because of Spidey from the comics. I wonder, if it had been a comics only based game, if Web Rush wouldn't have been thought of.

Also, that ASM was too easy (IMO) was because they wanted the game to be made for a wider audience who watch the film, and not the comic core fans. Interesting.

I like that Marvel stopped Beenox from making Spidey chose between Smythe and Gwen. Would've been a bad idea if you ask me.

I'm glad that Beenox had more ideas that will be included in the next game. Shows that there will be some progress between the games.

But all of this makes me wish that this game wasn't tied to the films at all. I guess this is what you get when the films and the comics are from different companies. Next game should be based on the 616 comics, with an original story. Then, there will be negotiations without Sony's part messing up stories and difficulty, giving more time for Beenox to work on the good stuff.

Finished the game 6 hours ago, and this is the first game I finish this fast, usually it takes me two weeks or more to go through one game, I started playing this game two days ago

Didn't expect to say so, after 3 stinkers in a row I feel the need to call this one my favorite Spider-Man game, period, don't feel like playing any of the older Spidey games I like
Factory missions remind me of the Wolverine game, and the cannon part reminds me of Sentinel mission
Does the composer have an affection for Terminator? At least the theme? Sometimes the first five notes of the T theme play in factory missions
Stan calling Peter about the credit card and telling him "You must be living in an AMAZING FANTASY" was amazingly hilarious, didn't expect laughing
After credits scene was pretty fun to watch

I noticed it too and I liked it, but the "Stop smiling at me!" got so annoying after a while

I guess if you were hearing those quips too much you probably weren't doing so well during the combat, lol. If you need any pointers just let me know :cwink:

Like I said in the other thread, I'm glad to hear you enjoyed the game so much.

Is the Future Foundation costume supposed to be in reversed colors in this game? Or does it count as a glitch that I have it like this

Like I said in the other thread, I'm glad to hear you enjoyed the game so much.
Thanks

I have more respect for the game and Beenox after reading that. I'm happy they are planning for the future too. Hopefully they aren't forced to make a Spidey game next year so that the entire team can work on TASM2 for 2014. I'd like another epilogue game for that too, just this time release it after the movie's release. Overall after looking at this game, I can't put a score on it. Originally I gave it an 8.5, but I kinda feel it deserves an 8, but then again, I also think it can keep it's 8.5. When I think of the good parts, I think of the bad parts and vice versa. So, all-in-all, no lower than an 8, but no higher than an 8.5. It's around there.

I want the sequel to have Web-Rush 2.0, better more fluid combat, better stealth, a more realistic NYC, a bigger NYC, and random crimes. I want to fight against thugs, robbers, and car-jackers long after the credits roll. Right now if I put in TASM I can only swing around, there are no things to do. I can replay missions, but it's not giving me a new and unique experience every time like random crimes would. I want, suddenly, out of nowhere, a large-scale robbery to take place in a bank or bank truck. I want a burning building to suddenly appear out in the distance and have Spidey save the trapped people. "Help me, help me, I'm being robbed", those missions are cool, but considering TASM2 could be on PS4 and the next Xbox, I want better random events.
