funny how ppl find this MORE repatitive and mediocre than edge of time or the arkham games

I don't know about Edge of Time, but this doesn't really hold a candle to the Arkham games.

Does this game use the same engine as Edge of Time? Are they similar at all? Basically is it worth buying? I hate the idea of it having a unique story from the movie world, though.

I hope it doesn't somehow come between TASM & the sequel.

I don't think I've ever participated in such repetitive gameplay. I'm a little more than halfway through storymode and the amount of ****ing robots and lasers and turrets seems to be growing by the second. It gets boring so quickly. Not to mentioned, how many goddamn times does Spidey have to go in and out of Oscorp to do the same crap? I've played just about all of the previous Spidey games that exist, and it seems like the ball was really dropped here.
It's about as repetitive as most video games, even the superp ones are very repetitive
How many soldiers one kill through the entirety of one Metal Gear Solid game? Or pass by them in stealth? Too many

As for going to Oscorp many times:
  • There are two in Oscorp Tower, same tower
  • One biological lab
  • One robotics lab
  • Four secret labs, with notable difference in design

Edge of Time is alright for a throwaway game, a stinker if you consider it a main game
Batman Arkham games? I still find Asylum somewhat painful to play, even after more appreciation to it, but Arkham City? That's my favorite game, it did me a lot of favors without either one of us knowing it

No, they are very different

I feel that this game tried too much to be the Arkham City of Spider-Man games. Still, I feel it was one of the best Spidey games out there. It probably would be the best if there was interesting side missions like in Spider-man 2 and Batman Arkham City

At least there is the ability to replay story missions and collect what you didn't the first time

Edge of Time's story was just so... forgettable. When you finish the game, you got nothing out of it. As for ASM, I think it's the kind of game where if you just want to be Spider-man for a few hours, you should play it, like Iron Man and other tie in games.

I don't have EoT so I don't know the pacing of the story, but to me the story seems to be really good there, dialogue, plot and all. I thought the main issues people had with it was the bland environments, the boring missions, the bad combat, the lack of variety etc.

Sorry, but taking down hoards of boring robots (some tiny and some absurdly huge) is even worse than fighting humanoids in any video game. The combat n this game is fun, just not fun at all against robots with stupid shields. The giant snake robot was ridiculous.

Yeah, that's A LOT of times. And the designs were not that different or interesting (aside from one) to warrant such repetition. Some of the levels in this game seem like throwaway levels.

The fight against 'Rhino' was taken straight from a much older PS1 Spidey game, and last all of 30 seconds.

ASM wipes the floor with EoT. I consider ASM to be more like AA in terms of gameplay.

It uses a different engine and a completely different set of gameplay mechanics and thankfully so. I enjoyed EoT or what it was but ASM is def the better title.

ASM was an easy buy for me and will remain in my collection. Rent it first if you have any doubts.

Where ASM succeeded like how Arkham succeeded, is making you feel like the title character. I agree though that ASM needed more interesting side missions to accomodate the main story.

True. It would have been nice for Beenox to have included multiple save slots or even a new game + though.

I disagree about EoT. The best points about EoT is the story, the voice acting and some of the boss battles.

I do agree with your sentiment on ASM though. I love that game. ASM nailed the aspect of being Spider-man.

This.

There's a LOT of influence from the Arkham games here. Combat is... actually not THAT bad.

I actually enjoyed the combat more in ASM than Arkham. I'm not saying the system is better than what evolved in Arkham City but I found greater satisfaction in using the free flow combat with Spidey. The animations are pretty solid and imo they captured what I've always wanted for the combat in a Spider-man game. Prior to ASM, whenever I would think of how I wanted the combat to flow I would always think of the armored car robbery scene from Raimi's SM1 when Spidey took out those thugs. IMO, ASM does this quite nicely. The lucha libre combat style is an awesome nod to his wrestling days and there's nothing cooler than looking around the room and seeing enemies webbed up all over the floor, walls and ceiling.

They are easy to take down, hold the webline to spin a robot around after removing the forcefield, not only will it defeat that robot with that one move, it will break other robots it hit

Yeah, that's A LOT of times.
Alright, out of 21 stages you do make a fair point
I counted the stages

Not a fan of combat in this game?

I am, but I wasn't expecting a lot after watching videos of what seemed to be imitating the Arkham games's Freeflow system.

I'm excited to see Beenox add more moves to the free flow combat in the next game.

Speaking about that, when do you think Beenox will announce it??

Yeah, I love that upgrade. The combat I thought was fun but they should have had more crimes. The city is clean when you stop some muggings? The combat was fun, and yet I spent most of it on some slime spitting infected people and Oscorp guards. BTW, the guys in big green suits had hilarious voices. "Run all you like!" Call it copying Arkham City if you want, but I actually wanted a challenge mode.

2 months from now, maybe

I want to finally play a great stand-alone spider-man game. The best ones until now have been movie tie-ins and that doesn't really say much

True that. I was too young when the first Spider-Man game came out. We need Spider-man Legends!

It was very entertaining and better than most previous games. Still not the Spider-Man game we've been waiting for though... I hope the next one is

Plus the PS1 games and Ultimate are decent

This game was entirely disappointing. Not one salvaging quality about it I'm afraid.
I want to defend the game, I really do, but the developers did something I hate in both Shattered Dimensions and this one, and for that I support your disappointment
Activision suck as well, I'm not paying them a peanut

BTW, welcome to the land of hypsters where you can have free imaginary popcorn and no cable

At least they gave you your long awaited free flow
BTW, that reminded me of Godzilla2014 and his dad, whatever happened to those two fellas? Mainly Zilla?
