Amy Adams is Lois Lane

It's funny how when the gender roles are reversed, and you have Ryan Reynolds in his mid 30s as Hal Jordan with Blake Lively in her early 20s as love interest Carol Ferris, there was nowhere near as much of a fuss kicked up about the age difference. And since in the comics Hal and Carol were childhood friends, them being of similar age is actually more important for Green Lantern.

I think the reason why people are concerned about her age is because of the sequels. If this film turned out to be a hit it will launch a new franchise. Adams will be pushing 40 by the time those arrive. With male actors it's different because we're used to it. James Bond has always been played by an actor in his late `30s and `40s. Harrison Ford was already pushing 40 in the first Indiana Jones flick and was older man in all the sequels. So, as I said, people are just used to watching that. With women it's different cause the love-interest is always played a `20-something. So, this is a very rare situation. In that respect, I'm glad that Zack Snyder and Chris Nolan took the risk. They're not playing by anyone's rules. If Lois is 40 in the sequels then so be it. At the end of the day, Lois Lane is always running around in a shirt and jacket. She's not here to sell sex. So, the older and more mature the character looks then the better.

Is the guy who was desperate for Ashely Greene to get the role ok? someone better check on him! :woot:

He must be raging right now.... either that, or he's already face down in a bathtub. :shock

Hmmm interesting choice. A bit unexpected. Seems a tad old for Cavill and I don't really find her to be "modern", which Snyder has repeatedly said he wanted for this movie. She's a fantastic talent though so I ain't gonna complain.

He said he was going "modern" with the Superman character.

Who knows what Lois Lane will be like. Though the casting of AA makes me think they have a more classic/silver age image of how they want to portray Lois Lane as opposed to this version:

Not saying she's a bad choice or anything, but it's painfully obvious how some people are forcing themselves to like her just because she's been cast.

Well what's wrong with that?

I mean, no, she's not at all what I wanted for Lois. In fact, the news came as a dissapointment to me, in comparison to the glee I felt when Cavill was cast. If someone had mentioned her last week, I would have said she didn't have the look for Lois and she plays too many cutesy roles.

But I have to respect that they've cast her because she's right for the role. So I hunt for pictures where I feel she has a Lois Look, and I find them. A lot of them.

And then I hunt for video clips of her acting, and find that she can pull off fiesty, tender and sharp...

There were a lot of actresses that could have been cast, that would have been awful. I am willing to give her the benefit of my positive attitude.

not really a fan of her being lois. Lana maybe. don't really see her as lois.

weird that she played a villain of the week in smallville.

exactly!

This casting is strictly ok... Emily Blunt would have been much better for the role

If they were going to go with a much older Lois, why not just get Carla Gugino, there's only a 2 year age difference and not only does Gugino look a lot hotter, but she looks a lot more like Lois than Adams does by far...

Love the casting, Amy is gorgeous and a great actress, she should be great. First piece of casting I've been excited about besides Cavill.

You know why I have faith in this casting?

Except that Margot Kidder was 29 when she filmed Superman and 39 when she did Superman 4
Terry Hatcher was 31 when she started on Lois and Clark. And hate to break it you ageists but your precious Erica Durance was ... OH My God... 26 when she started on Smallville playing an 18 year old.

I agree. I always thought she would be a great Lois, but I never saw them casting someone 9 years older than Cavill.
True, I did not see this coming at all but she'll be great and I'm pretty excited.

They look about the same age, I dont really care. Even though shes only 3 years older, if Cugino would have been cast it would have looked like a cougar-hunting Superman. Adams looks much younger than she is IMO.

I have to agree with you about Blunt. She is just as good of an actor, but maybe a little more sophisticated.

When Amy Adams is looking her best she is clearly the best looking actress to have ever played the role.

Well not to me. In my opinion Erica is the most gorgeous and sexiest to play the part. As well as looking like Lois.

It's up to you to decide who's more attractive. But IMO Erica has more of the 'Lois look.'

Amy Adams really has the Lana Lang look IMO.

This is how I've seen Lois and Lana and how they're normally drawn in the comics.

Amy Adams is Lana. Full stop.

Weird, she DOES remind me of Mia Kirshner when you make her hair darker. I've never noticed that before. And Mia Kirshner has a great look for Lois, so I retract what I said earlier about her "look" being the only thing not perfect for this. This is seriously damn near perfect casting, imo.

Looks like a younger Mia Kirshner... which is funny, because she's actually older.
And both of them played Sarah Michelle Gellar's Cruel Intentions character in 2 seperate movies. :cwink:

Interesting. I like that she isn't the typical choice and look forward to seeing what she can do with the character.

I didn't check SuperHeroHype all day and when I finally come here . . . WOW! Like most of you, I never saw this coming, but I love, love, love Amy Adams. I wouldn't have thought of her for Lois, but she can do absolutely anything. Check her out in "Junebug," her first Oscar-nominated performance. So adorable and spunky and heart-breaking all at once. I've been saying all along that I wanted an actress for Lois who has something different about her. Well, Amy certainly has that, and more!
