Think about it, in X2 Singer more or less used an original villian (granted, the character was named William Stryker but had nothing in common with his comic counter part but a mutant child...and even that was nothing alike). Do you think Singer may use an original villian for Superman Returns 2 (If he gets to do it that is)...

If so, what would the response be? Do you think it would be something similiar to the outrage of when Ty-Zor was announced or do you think it'll be an apologetic response?

i dont think he should go with origional villans, nuclear man ring any bells :D nah nuckey was ok i guess and im sure if singer does it will be a good one

I was going to post a " create-a-villian " thread, but this will do.

As for your question, I don't think Singer and his writers could create an interesting enough villian for Superman.

Superman's rogues gallery is deeper than a lot of people might think. I don't know if an original villian can be created for him that might not echo already established villians.

Amoral businessmen
Lex Luthor
Lionel Luthor

Mad Scientist
Lex Luthor
Milton Fine
Jax-Ur

Tyrant
Zod
Darkseid
Mongul
Brainiac

Gangsters
Intergang-Mannheim and Edge

Psychopaths
Toyman
Prankster?
Parasite?
Metallo?

Clone
Bizarro
Nuclear Man

Evil Computer
Brainiac
Eradicator
Vulcan (?) from Superman 3

Monster/Muscle
Doomsday

Not quite sure where Kryptonite, Myxlplk(sp), Gog, Preus, Conduit, Ruin might fit in these categories or in different categories but it just goes to show you that Superman's villians already cover a wide range.

Singer will probably just water down a comic villian and change his name since his lacks any kind of real imagination or genuine appreciation for Superman as a comic book. Why couldn't we get someone who actually read the comics? The Donner films are such a dated represntation of Superman...why are people still hung up on them. Seriously, Superman: The Animated Series is by far the best incarnation of Superman outside of the comics. This bumbling idiot Clark Kent thing is old hat. Clark and Lois' relationship is much more believable in TAS. Jimmy Olsen in SR was a joke. Jimmy is supposed to be the character that young people relate with. He should be more hip and street smart to mesh with today's audience. Same with Lois. She needs to be a modern woman. I just don't get why Singer is hung up on STM. Its not even that great of a movie. Reeve's Superman performance and William's score are the only thing that is really salvagable from that film. The rest is terribly dated.

Everything you have said is the truth, but for some reason most people on the hype don't want to hear it.

AMEN man!
You should've posted this 2 months ago. Whould've been funny how you'd be eaten alive by all the Donnerlovers around here.

If Singer really is allowed to mindf^ck us again with his idea of Superman I could see him using a bastard version of some known villains. That would finally screw up the franchise and would result in a reboot. :o

You mean like Nuclear Man or Ross Weber? Movie stryker was changed somewhat from his comic book self, but at his core he was still the same character, a human representation of hatred towards mutants, so he wasn't really a new character. So far the only comic book rogues who have made it the silver screen are Lex Luthor and General Zod. I think its time for another comic book villain to appear on the siulver screen (like Brainiac).

AMEN BROTHER!!! And, if you ask me, Superman shouldn't even fly anymore. That's lame! And the cape.... what's up with that?? Give the guy a Super-Mobile to get around in and somesort of 'updated' suit. Something black would be cool. Oh... and let's make Jimmy Olsen homosexual while we're updating him. That's trendy, right? As for Lois, Beyonce would be a good choice, don't you think? She's as hip as it gets and she's gonna be cool for decades, right? And Lex, we have to do something about Lex. Hmm... He should be more menacing, like that bad guy in the Matrix..... yeah, make Lex an FBI agent or something... but with super-powers so he really gives Superman a challange! Heck, let's make him Kryptonian! Man, if we made the movie OUR way it would be AWESOME!!!! Yeah!!!!!

That would be bull****.

Look if the damn studio doesn't want to make a Superman movie based on the current comic book incarnaton just drop the whole damn thing.

That why many of this movies don't work. Its a hit in the comics but then executive want to modified the sh** out of the character to the extent thats it just a barely recognizable version of what people love about the character and source material in the first place.

If they cannot come up with a villian from over 67 years of source material then just let the character rest in peace.

Hell, its amazing that the animated series and the T.V. series are more daring than the motion picture industry.

Oh hell no. If Joss Whedon were writing I'd be cool with it but look at the clowns that are in charge of the Superman franchise.

Good man

Despite what the whiners are saying, i'm confident in whatever Singer will bring us. My fingers are crossed for Braniac, though.

i completly agree i either want braniac, bizarro(in a phsyco evil way not dumb), metallo or the eradicator with lex paired wiv em. but if he can do a good origional villan then ok:up:

i hope he shys away from an original villian... we got our 'original' villian in Superman 3 in the form of Ross Webster. And I didn't like it. Superman has a cool rogue's gallery of his own.... and its time the rest of the world knew about.

And despite what all the "apologists" are saying, Singer won't be back. No finger-crossing necessary.

Wow. More Venom420-ness.

Kane,

You have finally got under my skin and started to truly annoy me. You do understand how big of a hypocrite you are for accusing me of having duel identities when you are also Hal_Jordan8472, Vandal_Savage, and Silver_Lad. Im sorry that I bring back memories of a poster who obviously got the better of you, as did the majority of the naysayers. Your blind, one sided opinions that fail to show both sides of the situation were proven wrong, just deal with it. Now go read some boring Silver age comics and stop flinging your feces all over the hype. Your dismissed.

Hey Matt, I've got the perfect villain for ya.

Superman will face his greatest challenge when Lumbergh makes Clark work on a weekend.

You should really work on your saracasm. I take it you are trying to defend Singer's vision for SR. Of course I assume you see the futility of that when you look to see how it got its a** handled to it by Pirates and the fact its struggling to even break even. Fans may not always be right or know whats best when making a Superhero movie but clearly in this case, those who wanted what Stewie describe were spot on.

WB and Singer are both paying the price for their lack of vision and intentional disconnect from the Superman fan base.

I like the movie... even if it didn't smash box office records (I'm hoping thats not why you don't like it.) When i sit down and watch the movie, I enjoy it. Half the Superman comics I read, I don't enjoy. If I'm nuts to defend the movie then I guess I'm nuts. If you think you would of been happy with McG or Ratner's Superman (what i was ranting above), good for you. Were they more connected to the fan base? To put it simply, I don't think anybody could of delivered a better, more successful Superman movie.

Nope not at all. But when you have movies like the Spider-Man series, the X-Men series and even the FF movie easily making $200+ million domestically, then there is something seriously wrong when WB movies cost over $200 million to make and has a fan base as large or larger than the others and the most recognizable Comic character ever. And don't say its because Superman is no longer revelent because if that was the case both Lois and Clark and Smallville wouldn't be the mega success that they were/are.

When i sit down and watch the movie, I enjoy it.

I enjoyed it while I was watching it but something was missing. Mostly it was Brandon Routh's performance. If that was all that Singer was going to deliver then he shouldn't have wasted his and our time and WB's money because we just could have rented Superman I.

Half the Superman comics I read, I don't enjoy.

That is no justification on using Donner's version because the mythology is superior to the stories anyway so he should have implemented the 1985-2006 mythology of Superman.

If I'm nuts to defend the movie then I guess I'm nuts.

No if you like it then good for you but a minority of people doesn't make a $200 + million make.

If you think you would of been happy with McG or Ratner's Superman (what i was ranting above), good for you. Were they more connected to the fan base? To put it simply, I don't think anybody could of delivered a better, more successful Superman movie.

No, McG or Ratner's version would have sucked probably even more but if you think that SR was the best that ANYONE could done on a new Superman movie then you are very undemanding.

If you disagree then you must feel that SR was even better than the original. If so, then you are in the minority.

You eat feces for breakfast venom420.

And I never said there was a problem with having multiple identities, notice I made all those weeks after I accused you... leveling the playing field.

I just keep bringing it up because you called venom420 an annoying troll....but I know you are both one in the same so its just amusing.

I'm a fan of the film, I'm interested in the future prospects and stuff from the con etc, thats why I post. You come here everyday to complain about a movie you didnt like...how pathetic is that? You make me laugh.
