An R rated DCEU movie possible

Batman. A hate to see gangsters and psychos acting all PG-13.

BTW: Do we really need solo movies of everything? How about a solo movie of Zack Snyder's dog? Jesus christ!!

I'd actually kind of love a Joker solo. Since this isn't the esoteric, enigmatic anarchist Joker that requires his backstory to stay shrouded in mystery. I'm not too sure how people would respond to it though.. maybe after the dceu hits a few homeruns or after Leto gets his time to shine in the Batman movie and really impresses. If nothing else it would allow us to re-visit his relationship to Harley and Arkham which we weren't given enough time with in SS.

Obviously, because of the success of Logan. They're jealous!

It's clearly LOBO. Which has been in development in various phases for a decade.

And possibly SUICIDE SQUAD 2.

If Mel directs SS2, it might be a guarantee.

If people love Deathstroke in The Batman, I won't be surprised if he gets his own movie. That could be Rated R.

Uh oh, the newest successful CBM was dark & gritty with a hard R, now we gotta do it too after making Justice League fun, Fun, FUN!!" Now they gotta ape Logan. :whatever: This Studio is reminding me of Sony pre-MCU deal. They have no plan & no direction. Announcing movies every two weeks & making it up as they go along.

I think it makes total sense for them to observe the performance and reception of other superhero movies and adjust and evolve their plans accordingly. Logan itself was a response to Deadpool's success. Is anyone complaining about Logan? or mocking Fox for jumping on the R-rated bandwagon?

I'm actually pretty happy about Logan's timing. It's crushing it critically and financially right around when Mel and WB are entering the early stages of negotiation and pitching. perfect timing

I'm just being cynical about what WB will decide are the key factors in Logan's success.

the R-rating was the secret ingredient to Logan's success. It allowed for a smaller budget, which in turn afforded them the possibility to go all-out and be risky with the story. So it owes it's critical success to the rating.

Financially too. The pageantry of an R-rating attached to a movie in this genre promulgated the notion of it being something special and atypical.
It conferred a prohibitive, tempting quality to the movie that drew people in. And, of course, the good word of mouth and the glowing reviews bolstered the returns.

The R-rating was indeed the key factor to Logan's success both financially and critically.

I'm sure WB sees why it was

Yeah, Lobo would make perfect sense. In his own way, he like DC Comic's version of Deadpool (the carnage and violent parts anyways).

Suicide Squad 2

Skwad had to be the first PG-13 movie with "Suicide" in the title.

The rating facilitated the making of a risky story. Deadpool's success allowed for an unrestricted Wolverine movie to happen but it's not the only key to its success. You have a well written story, long standing emotional connections to the characters, dedicated directing and passionate performances.

I can totally imagine WB going "well I guess we just didn't do it dark in the right way."

I sorta trust Mel as a director but making Suicide Squad R-rated isn't, by itself, the answer to the problem, same as the rating wasn't the answer as to why Logan works where previous Wolverine movies didn't. That's what I'm saying.

Btw, Mel isn't a sure thing just yet.

DC has quite a few characters with personalities and backdrops that would be right at home inside R-rated parameters.

The problem being the producer(s) got in the way, demanding things the story nor the direction necessitated and that's a result of trying too hard to appeal to a larger audience.

When a studio entrusts filmmakers to do an R-rated feature, there's supposed to be a lot less "meddling" given the lower risk in turning a profit.

Also, the success of both Deadpool and Skwad were built on the marketing.

I guess what I'm saying is that I'm weary of the idea that WB would try to manufacture their own R-rated hit.

Like I said. I'm being cynical. I'm sorry.

Dunno if Blade Runner 2049 counts to that sentiment - supposedly "one of the most expensive R-rated indie"

Suicide Squad 2 and Lobo should both definitely be R.

Lobo can be huge, I keep saying it but it's Guardians of the Galaxy mixed with Deadpool. Casting for Lobo is key. Dwayne Johnson would've been perfect. I've been thinking Terry Crews maybe

I want Sandman on HBO. but if it gets a movie, it should be R

I could see Suicide Squad sequels, Justice League Dark, Red Hood, and Lobo going for the R rating

Yes the studio that made V for Vendetta, 300, Constantine,Batman v Superman(UE) and Watchmen are considering making a R rated comicbook movie. Bravo Ace Scooper, bravo.

I was about to post a really similiar post to what idiot09 just wrote.

It's not particulary "WOW!" anymore since, while most of these things are PG-13, there are already several R-rated superherofilms.

Even on the DC side they have made Watchmen and the Extended Cut of Batman V Superman. And V for Vendetta that I almost forgot.

Suicide Squad 2 and Lobo are good guesses.

Suicide Squad 2, Lobo and possibly Dark Universe could be contenders for an R rating. Given WB has dabbled in R rated superhero films, an R rated DCEU film isn't much of a stretch
