May 19, 2008 - Punisher: War Zone to be scored by Christopher Franke of Tangerine Dream
With the roaring success of Marvel Studios inaugural independent feature film “Iron Man,” there are a lot of eyes on what will happen with the company’s subsequent releases (both reboots) “The Hulk” and “Punisher: War Zone.”

One of the most interesting aspects of these films is that they demonstrate how the perspective on translating comic book heroes to film has grown up. Arguably refashioned by Chris Nolan’s “Batman Begins” that endeavored to remain much more faithful to the work of Frank Miller by pressing the human behind the mask rather than the superficial caricature, the new slate of films employs some of today’s top dramatic talents - from Christian Bale, the late Heath Ledger, Gary Oldman, Robert Downey Jr., Gwenyth Paltrow, Edward Norton and in the case of Punisher, goes one step further to put lesser known names in the title roles in exchange for their proven abilities as actors (Ray Stevenson will play the Punisher in a film that also features Dominic West and Colin Salmon.)
Christopher Franke Most interesting about Punisher is that it is looking to be far less reliant on the ubiquitous CG to which these big action films are prone, and more interested in mis-en-scene - using (gasp) lighting and atmosphere to evoke the Marvel Universe comic book style that the characters inhabit. To add to this the film will be scored by founder of Sonic Images record label and one-time member of Tangerine Dream - Christopher Franke.
Hrm. Evocative, rich and dark lighting, relative unknown actors hired for their talent and appropriateness for their respective roles, an ambient electronic musical score - sounds like a film that came about some quarter century ago starring Harrison Ford, Edward James Olmos, Rutger Hauer and debutante Sean Young.

Harrison Ford as Agent Deckard - Blade Runner

Franke has scored many projects prior to Punisher: War Zone; High School Confidential and over 150 episodes of reality TV show “Big Brother” among them so simply being associated with Tangerine Dream does not necessarily mean we can expect the next Vangelis masterpiece, however when coupled with the dark contemporary urban subject matter of the Punisher framework, odds are we may get close.

Punisher: War Zone is slated for release December 5th, 2008 from Lionsgate Films.

Wow, he did the music for 150 episodes of Big Brother. Yeah this is most definitely going straight to DVD.

In show buisness, work is work. If you look at his imdb list, he's done a zillion different TV shows in general. The stuff he does for TV is obviously not going to be along the lines of the movie scores he does.

It also looks like he did Hooligans so its obvious he got the job based on knowing Lexi.

Looking at his imdb page makes me think he works on the cheap and he is perfect for this cheap ass POS to be movie.

I'm so tired of people bashing a movie they haven't even seen a trailer for. When Star Wars was made nobody wanted it, it was something everyone thought would flop. Look at what happened to that franchise! I'm not saying this will be at all close to Star Wars in any, but it's a good example of a movie that did well in spite of what people thought during pre production.

There is absolutely no comparison to Star Wars, people weren't getting any information back then. They didn't even the movie was being made until a trailer came out. People are getting meh pictures, a bad poster* and bad script reviews.

As for the composer, I don't remember what his Green Street Hooligans score was like so it could be good, it could **** just like this movie.

*I think it's fine, it could've been a little though.

I don't remember scores to most action movies, but I don't think the music is supposed to be epic anyways.

And about Star Wars, I'm not talking about fan hype. I meant the private screenings of portions of the film to studios and friends of Lucas. There were plenty of people who were getting information about that movie that didn't think it would do well at all and it did.

You should still wait until you see a trailer at least before you rip apart the few pictures you've seen.

He doesn't wright music for each show. If anything he only did the intro to the show, and maybe a couple of other themes; and they'll use that same piece, over and over again. Though, not sure if stuff will be any good in War Zone, till I see the movie; but expect something decent then what we got in the '04 Punisher.

Look him up on youtube to hear some of his work.

I'm annoying of people who spend time to post his s***t about a movie on production. Also about a person who has a Punisher avatar!

This prejudice is stupid. When the first trailer or the movie come out, we can discussing about. Stop. With two - and say two - photo and a teaser poster, why i can say this is a stupid movie or straight to dvd? Bah...

It's called being a fan. And as a fan if I think the character that I have enjoyed for over 20 years is being chewed up and spit out by a cheap straight to DVD movie, then I WILL Bi*** about it. And like I said before, I will call this movie a POS all the way through because from what I have seen and read, it's not going to be anything great. But if by chance it makes it to theaters, I will be there opening weekend and if it's a great movie, I will be the first to come on here and eat my words and if it is the POS I think it's going to be, I will be on here saying that as well. You don't like my opinion, tough ****.

I'm sure you'll hate it even if it is great, because you've already decided it will suck. It's still stupid that people are still believing it will go straight to DVD, even with a theatrical release date set.

No, I will man up if I think it's good. Don't ever speak for me. You don't know jack**** about me.

Just because a movie is given a theatrical release date, doesn't mean it will make it to theaters.

Well, this is Lionsgate and the Saw movies they've been ****ting out have all been theatrical.

Look if the movie is good, I'll man up and say I was wrong, but given what I know, the cast aside, I'm not optimistic.

wow, never thought something like the soundtrack could cause such heated debate. :woot:

don't recall hearing any of this guy's stuff, so i for one am not going to make any rash judgments. as long as the soundtrack is fitting and appropriate for the film, that's all that matters.

another bladerunner comparison? :wow: :unishr:

Not if you continue to PayPal him your lunch money.

If not, he'll see you at the flag pole at 3:00.

Wow, if I was caught at a school at my age with having no kids, I would be in serious trouble...haha :oldrazz:

Hey, a lot of 18 year old senior girls are graduating around this time of the year! There's always that.

And I don't really care if Kable talks **** about the movie cause at least his posting news and making up for AD not being here. ;)

No, don't get me wrong... I like his forcefulness. If I ever run into thuggery, it's good to know that I've 'got a friend in Pennsylvania'.

As a matter of fact, there are these guys that owe me a lot of money, who could use a good thrashing...

if they are in the Harrisburg/Hershey area, I be all up in there grill, yo!:bh:

But the news about Franke is very old. I know it's the Punisher composer from February...

Yeah, it was even on the Wikipedia page for a good while.

The why the Hell didn't you post it????????? :cmad:
