Punisher: War Zone is an amazing movie to behold. Its as violent as last January's Rambo and possibly the funniest comic book adaptation to hit the screen in sometime. It's sure to be a cult hit, and serves as an awesome ode to 80s action extravaganzas. It's such an excellent film; it's going to be hard to top it with a sequel. While chatting with director Lexi Alexander yesterday, we asked her how she was planning to out do herself and if a Punisher: War Zone 2 was on the way.

In no short order, she explained that she wasn't intent on coming back for a sequel, and if a third film does happens, she won't be attached. Then she told us that she wants Ray Stevenson, the man that plays Frank Castle in Punisher: War Zone, to come back and direct a third film. She says that he is very open to it, and that is the direction she is pushing the franchise. She doesn't believe that anybody else but him will be able to make a film that is on par with what is coming to theaters this Friday.

To hear the entire conversation, stay tuned for our exclusive one-on-one video interviews with both Lexi and Ray, which should be up soon. Punisher: War Zone opens December 12th, 2008.

Hrmmmm....um....idk.......weird?

now this should be interesting.

Id actually like to see Stallone direct the sequel...i dont know why...i think he'd do it justice.

How about instead of constantly getting directors with little to no experience, we get someone established in the action movie genre? Just a thought there LGF, you cheap mother....

I think I rather have Ray than someone like a Transporter sequel director.

I was thinking maybe a John McTiernan, Walter Hill, Sylvester Stallone type director

John McTiernan would be a good choice, indeed.

I rather see fresh blood. Not that I don't like some of those guy's movies, they're just from a completely different generation is all and there is a certain vibe I want out of my comic book movies.

Well for fresh blood i wouldn't mind giving Lexi a second shot if she managed to make this one the Punisher movie we've been waiting for. Like i've said, bigger budget, better writers and Stevenson returning as Frank? I think she could improve.

Im not really that interesting in something like that.

I don't know if Lexi has anything else to offer. I'm sure she's thrown in every creative kill she can think of, and another repeat gorefest would just get old. That's not to say the next Punisher (if there is one) needs to be a deep, story-driven endeavor, but a new director and writer could take the positives of Warzone and look at correcting the flaws.

Which is apparently anything that doesn't involve heads being blown off.

What the..? Sometimes I click on new threads and get these little surprises :hehe:

Did they not get along or something? Ray was awesome as Punisher, and the shots were great, as was the cut....so I was hoping she'd come back. LGF is all about bottomline profits, and if Punisher opens to $20 million+, a sequel is a sure bet, 15-20 million will depend on the DVDs, and 10-15 is a real toss-up.

next films:

Kitchen Irish?
the Slavers?
Up is Down and Down is Up?

Slavers would be awesome...I'd like to see O'Brien thrown into the mix.

Oh and considering how awesome Watchmen looks I wonder if they could tempt Zack Snyder to do a Punisher movie.

I think all of this is premature, considering it's very unlikely this film will do well enough for a sequel.

I almost hope it doesn't, because maybe the rights could lapse and Marvel could get them back. Imagine what they could do if they had control of The Punisher...PWZ finally got Frank himself and his style of punishing right, if little else...if Marvel was at the helm with Ray, we'd be talking true critical, fan, and BO success.

It will be lucky to make that amount during it's entire 3 week thatrical run.

20 million at this point is looking more and more like a fantasy world where unicorns and leprachauns dance under rainbows, and Punisher War Zone isnt a Hiroshima type bomb.

It just sounds like a hit a run--Lexi just wanted to get paid a move on. Isn't obivious that she doesn't want to deal w/ the blow back. It not like a regular movie where you can ruin it and there won't be any crazied fans screamin, these a Marvel and DC films--they have to pick a director that understands that, and not just earning their h'wood chops.

well the fact is, the people who own the rights to Punisher don't give a toss about the character.

they didn't in 1989 and didn't in 04 and 08.

But didn't Marvel say that they wouldn't do PG-13 movies?
