Oh Eros, you're so naive.

Which you know, is kind of funny, given your name.

Naive? Their hasn't been any movies about gay superheroes that became block buster hits...that's a fact.

I would like it if they made Spidey gay.

There's not a lot of well-known gay superheroes out there.

two straights guys rarely get drunk and tongue kiss at a club. Two straight girls get drunk and do it all the time.

Yeah, straight girls cross into that boundary more - but that does nothing to show that chicks don't like gay porn more than they do lesbian porn. Especially since even a lot of lesbians are known for digging gay porn more. Women are just more open to being sexual than men are - which is kind of part of the point. I hear more about women wanting to see so-and-so a movie solely because a guy is hot more than I hear guys ever saying that solely because of a babe.

You are 100 Percent correct. The issue is you think that Millions of women will rush to the box office to see a movie about spider-man in love with a MAN. As opposed to channing tatum sweeping a sweet Women off her feet. The audience is to small to matter, and thus sadly not worth it.

No, actually I'm just agreeing with Thundercrack that ANY movie featuring two guys making out will bring in a **** load of chicks.

You put Channing Tatum in a gay film with another dude and chances are you're looking at a lot of money. Brokeback made 100 mil in the states inflated, and other than 'The Vow' and 'Magic Mike' (a male stripper movie) its higher than Tatum's other romantic pics. And according to an article below - a lot of what made Brokeback successful was surprisingly the women buying tickets.

Also, to phrase it better do I think a Young Avengers film (which has a gay relationship at its core) would/will be successful? Yes.

... I don't think I would want to see this particular version of Peter being bi-sexual.

I think it's something that could be explored for a new interpretation, but for me I just don't think it's Garfield's thing with this interpretation. Even though from what it seems, the new Harry is trying to be very homoerotic. That could be the drugs though and constant neglect from his father though. *shrug* :oldrazz:

That's my two cents though!

Yea I don't think they'd make spidery gay. I'm not against gays or anything but spidery is the average joe hero and mj is a iconic comic book woman. Make aqua man gay. No one would be surprised.

I also would not be a fan nor watch the movie if spidey was gay.

No, just no.

I would be totally down with some sort of one shot comic where Peter is gay.

There's been a comic about an Indian Spider-Man, so why not?

Actually, I want to campaign for this gay Spidey story to happen now.

As long as he ends up dating John Jameson. :woot:

lol

Someone mentioned that Harry is aiming for a homoerotic style. Now I could live with that. However Spidey being gay and dating a male version of MJ???? Don't know bout that..

It's safe to assume that Andrew was simply joking around with the reporter.

Here we go again.

Michael B Jordan, thy name is controversy.

You can be gay all you want, but don't butcher MJ character godammit!

Andrew was half joking and half just showing some support for gay people.

Sally Fielding's youngest son is gay. Andrew and Emma have just been showing some support that is all.
andrew might not have been serious about actually making peter gay or bi, but it's so important that he said it, and that he said he was joking but kinda wasn't. LGBT people have NO positive representation in the media and it'd be nice for them to see themselves be the hero once in awhile instead of being the butt of the joke. andrew was raising a question: why can't a hero be gay? just because he's not canonically gay? a lot of things aren't canon, and canon itself isn't consistent, things get retconned, so why not? why is it a big deal?

i'm very happy he said that.

I wouldn't go as far to say LGBT people have no positive representation in the media. There are plenty of heroic characters who are Gay, Lesbian or Bi.

Just off the top of my head I can name Marvel and DC gay superheroes like Wiccan, Hulkling, Apollo, Midnighter, Shatterstar, Rictor, Northstar, Graymalkin, Obsidian, Mystique, Destiny, Striker, Karma and Karolina Dean

This thread was meant to start controversy.

NO.
Simply put, no.

This is one of those times when things are changing at a rapid pace. That's wonderful. The problem is, Spider-man is NOT gay. He has NEVER been gay. If he had, then fine, go with it. If they wanted to spin-off after teh first trilogy with Miles Morales, and have him be gay, then go with it.

Making straight characters gay...how would people feel if we suddenly made gay characters straight? Would that be fine?

Let's leave things the way they are, and introduce more characters who happen to be gay without making it gimmicky. Using homosexuality as a selling point to drum up controversy is simply exploitation, in my book.

Make a GOOD movie about Spidey, and people will watch it. Make a movie where you "experiment" with a hero with 50 plus years of continuity and fans, and you can watch it flop. End of story.

You mean to say Peter Parker's not gay, right?

However, Electro wasn't black, either. Or Kingpin. Just saying.

This thread was meant to start controversy.

Yup. I've pretty much spoken my piece. Now I'm going to walk out before people start throwing around hate speeches and start the name calling. It will happen soon... :(

ITS NOT GONNA HAPPEN, EVERYONE JUST CALM THE **** DOWN!!

:oldrazz:

he was supporting gay teens but obviously said it in a jokey way that wasn't mean't to be taken so seriously

I know Andrew was making a joke but dear sweet merciful God keep Mary Jane a girl and stop this political-correctness B.S.

If Marvel wants to create a gay superhero than let them but Spider-Man has been straight for years and SHOULD continue to be heterosexual for the years to come. If people want to do some fan-art or fan-fiction of him being gay or bisexual by all means go ahead, but in every other medium--- no.

Peter Parker doesn't bat for both teams.

But why should people have a huge problem with a bisexual Parker? There have always been subtle innuendos with Parker and Flash. What if Harry was gay? Just gives these characters more depth and brings them into the modern day. From an artistic standpoint, it's viable. Obviously these aren't meant to be Sundance or independent films, and there remains a public aversion for homosexuals in this country, but what is it finally going to take to bring down that barrier?

Why does this thread still exist? It's been established that Andrew was only joking. Period. That is not up for debate.

I wonder how seriously people would have taken this statement had it been made by Christian Bale about Batman or by RDJ about Iron Man. Would there really be so much drama and fuss over it then or would people just brush it off as a joke and move on? Probably the latter. But of course that everyone has to blow everything out of proportion and jump the gun on everything related to this new Spider-Man franchise whenever the opportunity to do so arises.

I can't believe this has sparked up so much fury, but then again I'm not surprised.

I actually think Spider-Man would be perhaps the perfect superhero character to do this kind of story with. It would be odd if they just dropped it into the middle of this series, but I'd roll with it.

More importantly, this has got me thinking how a gay or bi-sexual Peter Parker would fit into the world. I really think you could tell some great stories with that character. Again, I'd rather they'd be told in a different series or medium, but the concept itself is very intriguing.

Why everyone is taking what andrew said like its a Rumour that sony are going to do that i have no idea
