Andy Serkis IS Alfred Pennyworth

Serkis is always a good thing, but I'm actually pretty surprised about this casting. Would never have guessed him to be Alfred.

I guess Alfred’s getting a bit more of a working man spin for this.

Serkis is a great actor and the film would be fortunate to have him, but I can't help but think Alfred, for as great a character as he is, would be a waste of Serkis' talents. I'm not saying he can or should only do CG characters, but he's such a chameleon even in his live-action roles that I would rather see him do a more "out there" character like Mad Hatter or something. He's also probably little too young for Alfred.

He probably wanted a break from “out there” characters after playing them for the majority of the decade.

The role is also probably easier on his directorial schedule than one of the villains.

Wow!... I can't even wrap my mind around this. I was hoping Andy would be in this, but Alfred was nowhere on my radar for him. This truly will be the most interesting Batman film ever if this happens.

No disrespect to Alfred, but I would much rather have Andy Serkis play a villain, like Two-Face, or something.

Definitely surprised he is going to be Alfred... I’m sure he’ll do a good job.

Ditto. I'm having real difficulty in seeing him in the role tbh, but I look forward to seeing what he does with it.

Love Andy!

A true renaissance man.

He's going to make a wonderful Alfred.

Really? I can easily see him in the role. His role in the Prestige as Tesla's assistant comes to mind. Just take that and give it a fatherly English spin and we are good to go...

I'll be lying if I said I wasn't hoping he'd end up being Man-Bat, but this role might make more sense for his schedule.

Also think it could be invaluable to have someone with his expertise around when/if they eventually do the likes of Man-Bat, Clayface, Killer Croc...

I thought a long time ago that Serkis would be perfect as Mad Hatter.
