Hanks Gets $50 Mil For "Angels"?
By Garth Franklin
Thursday April 26th 2007 9:02am

A few weeks ago Cinema Blend broke the news here that Tom Hanks had been locked in for "The Da Vinci Code" prequel "Angels & Demons", a deal that included one of the biggest salaries in the history of Hollywood to do it.

What could've been dismissed as Net rumour was picked up and confirmed by the trade papers a few days later. Now, the original source for the story has come back with a number - $35 million.

Yep, that's right - not just $35 million upfront, easily nabbing the record for highest paid actor, but a big piece of the back end too. That means as much as 25% of domestic ticket sales - another $15 million should the film do as well as 'Da Vinci'.

Agents for supermodel turned actress Gisele Bundchen are also apparently demanding modeling price style wages for her to star alongside Hanks in the film - an amount which could be worth something like $13 million.

Finally, the source says that "Angels & Demons" could be one of the most expensive films ever made - with a budget in the high $200 million range.

:wow: wow.

why the hell would it cost 200mill?... there is nothing in the book to make it cost so much. This is just bulls**t IMO.

heh,
Hank is gettin paid,lol..I want his agent. As for the movie costing 200 million, well some of that is hanks salary, plus co-star wanting 13million..add in other salaries etc...Its been a long time since I've read the A&D's book, also don't remember much stuff that would cost alot. Might be some CGI stuff etc..
I will say A&D was better than Devinci code imo..Seem to have little more action, more of a political tone with the science/religion type stuff...
Just can't wait to see it.

Bellucci is little too old, IMO. I'd go for someone in their late 20's to mid-30's. I really can't see her joining the cast, and I'm confident the director will not choose her. There's plenty of younger actresses who could do the job of Vittoria.

Not excited about those Gisele Bunchen rumours. Monica Bellucci shouldn't be ruled out. Caterina Murino (Casino Royale) comes to mind. Maybe with a bigger pay check Tom can sort out that wig!

And in the book isnt Vittoria described as attractive but not movie star beautiful? Or something along those lines. I think Monica is too pretty IMO

I could see someone like Jennifer Esposito

Whether Monica or not it needs to be an older actress

Yeah, I just wanted someone a bit less hot than Monica. I'll think up some more names

You know, maybe I'm in the minority, but Bellucci has never really done it for me.

That said, you've definitely posed a really good question as to who Vittoria could be. Who could also play the Camerlengo? That's a role that really has to be done by someone with some solid charisma. Personally, although he's not Italian, I think Denzel would be a good choice.

a black man as camerlengo? we are talking about the church here...

True, but I know for a fact that blacks can be bishops, cardinals, and priests. 12 years of Catholic school, and growing up in a Catholic background has allowed me to see it.

My mom is also a director for one of the diocese's, and I see black missionaries (mostly Jesuit priests) who pass through, and some are definitely colored.

Not to mention, the Catholic Church is more progressive than people sometimes think. The media portrays things a certain way, but if a person were to talk to a priest, they'd find that most that are part of the Gen X or Y (and even some baby boomers) are a lot more liberal and progressive minded than what is portrayed in the media.

A black Camerlengo is not outside the realm of possibility. Caviezel's a decent choice, but I'm sure he doesn't want to be typecast (which he already may be); Denzel could be interesting and does have charisma. Kevin Spacey might be an interesting choice as well. I think that role will be as tough as finding a Vittoria.

I know his name gets thrown around a lot, but when I was reading A&D, I had Ed Norton in my head whenever reading any of the Camerlengo's scene's.

I had in my head for Vittoria, Catherine Zeta Jones, but I can't stand the woman so I don't know if I want her to play the part or not.

of course there are black bishops and priests. I think there is only one black cardinal. But a camerlengo is one of the highest positions of the catholic church. Anyway, it's a movie. Maybe they do it.

Here's an article from IGN:

April 27, 2007 - Now that it has been confirmed that Sony is trying to woo star Tom Hanks and director Ron Howard back for their Da Vinci Code follow-up Angels & Demons, the rumor mill is buzzing over how much it may cost the studio to have the two-time Oscar-winner reprise his role as symbologist Robert Langdon.

According to CinemaBlend.com, the outlet that first reported that Hanks was set to land a record payday for the pic, Sony is willing to pay Hanks a sweet $35 million to return.

"But not only $35 million, that's just what they're paying him to show up on the set," the site claims. "He may also be getting as much as 25% of the ticket sales here in the United States. Hanks could end up making as much as a massive $50 million just to make one movie."

CinemaBlend.com adds that Angels' oft-rumored leading lady Gisele Bundchen also wants a hefty paycheck to appear in the film. "Rumor is that her agents are demanding she be paid based on her modeling price, which could mean they'll have to pay out something like $13 million to get her in the movie."

Supermodel-turned-actress Bundchen has so far had small roles in two films, The Devil Wears Prada and Taxi.

sorry, but that's simply too much, especially considering he wasn't even that good in the da vinci code... neither was the director, for that matter. the movie was a stinker.

See, a statement like that makes absolutely no sense. The film did well to the tune of:
$758,239,851

The director did a fine job, and the cast did a fine job. The film took on an interesting and great concept and delivered on the goods. Hanks deserves what he'll be paid for the sequel, as he showed he could deliver, and likely will with a sequel.

It would probably be prudent for you not to make blanket statements that the film was "a stinker", when obviously you are in a select minority.

Considering how tedious the first film was, Monica needs to be in this just to make it watchable.

An Italian newspaper is reporting that Dan Brown and Tom Hanks were invited to have dinner tonight in Rome at the Borgognoni Palace, by one of the Italian Illuminati Giuliano Di Bernardo, to discuss the upcoming adaptation of the book. The other people at the dinner are Rupert Murdoch, cardinal Friedrich Wetter, lobbyist Pier Giorgio Bassi and Vincent Canestraro, former big-gun at CIA and now advisor of George W. Bush. They will eat raw fish served on triangular dishes and the tables will be lit by pyramidal candles.

Bloom Joining Hanks In "Angels"?
By Garth Franklin
Wednesday August 1st 2007 12:35am
With his post-"Pirates" schedule free and clear, many are wondering what British hunk Orlando Bloom will be up to next.

Well Cinema Blend seems to think they have the answer - none other than the adaptation of Dan Brown's "The Da Vinci Code" prequel "Angels and Demons."

Their source says that Bloom is in talks to join the cast alongside Tom Hanks and potentially Giselle Bundchen in the blockbuster due late 2008.

What role though is unsure, the most likely candidate would that of the Illuminati Hassassin - the antagonist for much of the first two-thirds of the story, and a real change of pace from Bloom's more good guy roles

Most likely playing that priest guy who's name escapes me, but I recall him
Burning himself to death in the end
