Another Fatal Shooting in a movie theater

I wonder how many homicides involve alcohol?

I know drunks are more violent than the mentally ill.

Here is Britain, where we have a national alcohol problem, a majority of violent crimes are committed by someone who is drunk.

That's only somewhat true. Melee weapons are more personal and takes a slightly different mindset to use...also, it's harder to kill as many people with a melee weapon. Where as a gun is very impersonal, easier to use and kills in larger amounts.

Study after study shows violent death drops when gun control is in place.

Countries that have gun control laws have far less violence. That should be proof enough. But it won't be enough...because americans prefer their guns over human lives.

Well, if you or other people want to live in a gun free society, then move to those countries and leave the USA and it's right to own guns alone. If the ****ing goverment and some crybabies like you even try to take my guns, I swear there will most certaintly be another civil war. And, don't forget, most military/police personnel in this country are for the second amendment, who do you think is going to win that war? The crackpots on capitol hill, or the gun activists?

I would be wary of throwing the term "crackpot" around, if I were you.

If we had no guns, we would be talking about mass bombings.

And a bomb is a hell of a lot easier to make than a gun! We start learning the basics of it in school with the volcano projects in science class.

Hey, imagine England's drinking culture combined with America's gun laws?

Are you being facetious with this post?

Fighting a war over the right to bear arms has got to be one of the most stupid cause there is,at least they're not fighting for the right to own slaves.:whatever:

Going to war and killing people over the right to bare arms. Says it all really.

It would rank as the ultimate tantrum at having your toys taken away.

Yea and that is the thing, i bet to a lot of people these guns are just toys. They don't own them for home defense. Bollox, who needs 10 handguns and 2 assault rifles for home defense? They own them so when their friends come round they can whip out their custom nickel plated .45 and have a pissing contest. It's "cool" to have a gun, it's part of the culture. It's nothing to do with safety.

And now you see why this is such a heated topic amongst us over here from the debate within this thread. Both sides fight with fervor over this ****.

You're exactly the kind of person who should have guns taken away from.

That's because neither side feels like even trying to entertain the points the "opposite" side puts across.

I once listened to a video of stand up comic, and he pretty much said guns are around like they are because Americans love guns. I think this to be true. For whatever reason, the culture has created a large affinity for them, which makes it hard to make any significant law changes.

As I've said before, if politicians, kids, and church-goers can all get shot with no change in laws, I don't see how anyone could expect any sort of change.

Those that want Gun Control want to save American lives, those that want Guns find it acceptable to let Americans die so they can have unlimited access to a weapon that has gone far beyond the intention of the 2nd Amnendment.

People should have the right to one pistol or rifle that enables them to protect themselves, home and family. They don't need unlimited automatic weapons, grenade launchers, variants and so forth for that purpose.

They don't want to take your rights away, they want to limit guns to save lives while not removing your rights

Who do you think is going to win that war? The activists on capitol hill, or the gun crackpots?

^ Makes more sense like this ^

Pretty much

100% agreed. They don't view them as weapons designed strictly to kill but as sports equipment that they can collect, display & accessorise.

You're exactly the kind of person who should have guns taken away from.

My father is an avid, responsible gun owner and I was raised to respect fire arms, but not fear them. If, however, it would save lives to take guns away then I'm all for it. The lives of the innocent trump the need to own any property. The thing is, America is insanely violent. It's a super violent country. The insane would find a way to kill no matter what. Removing the ease of guns would certainly be a great first step, but eventually we got to treat the root. Take the show Hannibal, for instance. There were Renaissance paintings that were censored for nudity, but the gratuitous violence was shown in all it's glory. Violence is awesome here! That's the root of the problem. Violence is shown to be a solution to American troubles.

Never knew that. That's ridiculous

I do find the "sex bad, murder good" thing to be rather perplexing.

Must be a puritan hangover thing.

Graphic violence is more disturbing than a naked human being.

America is a weird paradox of puritanical repression of sexuality and fetishization of violence. It's a overcompensation thing, I think.

If you wanna hear something really nonsensical, the other day I was watching a TV writers panel on Youtube and Julie Plec (TVD, The Originals) was explicitly asked by a Standards and Practices person not to use the word "Jeez" in a line of dialogue because it was too close to Jesus.

That is f***ing insane. Sex and violence and so on, whatever, we've become too p***y to hear the word "Jeez".

It's kind of hilarious when you see someone basically eaten alive but they need to have the most obvious scene cuts to avoid even a slight hint of breasts or butt. "Oh no the kids seeing this show that is known for murder, cannibalism, tons of blood and gore and basically not good things can't be allowed to see a breast or butt in case it warps their fragile and impressionable minds! HEY! I want to see them cook the brain just as they cut it out of the skull! Amateurs."

But yeah, gun fetishists are freaky as ****. For some of them it's almost like a freaking worship of their guns.
