Ant-Man and The Wasp Ant-Man and the Wasp - Box Office Discussion

It feels kinda cluttered and inefficient, especially when reading threads. You have to do a lot more scrolling since every post is topped by the users' information instead of being off to the side in the old format. Plus with everything on a white background, the main text sort of blends in with the user information, making it harder to read and not as fast to read.

Oh ok, well at least it's good to know it wasn't just some snafu on my own PC that was causing to default to some other format or something.

It took me a little while to locate the individual movie threads it’s not too intuitive. It will take a little time to get used to the drastic design change but since I’m not a heavy user it’s not a big problem

There is a glitch in the voting system? It says I can view the results after I have voted. But once I did it told me I couldn’t view it because I didn’t have the permission or something.....

Yeah, the new design blows. On the plus side, tho, the ads aren’t crashing my browser any more so there’s that.

Looks like it picked up another 5-6 million in China Thursday so it’s around 96-97 headed into its second weekend. MI6 getting rave reviews so expect a big bite.

Still, almost 100 million before the weekend even starts is a pretty fantastic result.

looks like with the multiple vote thing people get a chance to re-do their initial guess. . . .

Seems any poll created before the switch are glitched.

I think 650 million is possible now. Opens in Japan this weekend.

Per the latest estimate over at BOT it inched over $100 million in China on Friday.

Japan OW forecast from corpse at worldofkj.com:

Weekend Forecast (09/01-02)
01 (01) ¥328,000,000 ($3.0 million), -21%, ¥1,360,000,000 ($12.2 million), Killing for the Prosecutors (Toho) WK2
02 (02) ¥304,000,000 ($2.7 million), -18%, ¥2,400,000,000 ($21.6 million), Gintama 2 (Warner Bros.) WK3
03 (---) ¥300,000,000 ($2.7 million), 0, ¥420,000,000 ($3.8 million), Ant-Man and the Wasp (Disney) NEW

This weekend is tricky to predict. Saturday is going to be a very, very busy day, thanks to it being the first of the month (national discount day) and the last completely free day before schools/universities start back on Monday. And Sunday will likely be very weak since Saturday will greatly deflate it, and the evening/night showings, in particular, will probably be very slow.

So... expect some great holds across the board, and while Saturday pre-sales do suggest a couple films (other than One Cut of the Dead) could experience a weekend increase, I really think Sunday will be weak enough to lower the overall weekend to probably prevent increases. Still, this weekend is generally very strong every year, and this year's will be no different.

Ant-Man and the Wasp will be aiming to debut atop the box-office, and while it has a fair chance, its pre-sales for Saturday just don't look strong enough to do so despite leading the pack. Marvel films typically have some degree of frontloading to them, so I think it'll fall just shy.

For comparison, Ant-Man had a $1.7 million OW.

So that's a great improvement. Excellent!

I would love to see someone try to spin a 650 million WW gross as a failure :)
Some have been calling it that all along, I can't see a minor thing like a big increase over the original Ant-Man changing their minds.

Up to $104.8 million in China after Saturday, per BOT.

So it's already essentially tied the first film's total. Great! Also, extrapolating the legs of the first film in Japan to this higher OW(not a very useful way to be accurate, I grant you as sequels tend to be more front loaded most of the time) but just for fun if it did have the same legs then this movie would make $21.5M in Japan.

Having a quick google just now, and I didn’t actually realise how quickly so many different places were to call this movie a flop.

Ok, not flop, but loads of places were saying that this was a success (just) or disappointing, or ‘poor for Marvel’.

And then I looked at the dates of the articles and loads of them were written in late July or early August.
No mentions of opening in more markets, including China.

For a media that I think are actually pretty lenient on the MCU about some stuff, numerous places seemed really intent on this failing to some degree.

From Gavin Feng on Twitter:

China Box Office Sep.2
Mission Impossible: Fallout - $22.84M / $77.67M
Ant-Man and the Wasp - $3.64M / $108.77M
Go Brother! - $1.26M / $50.08M
Sultan - $0.97M / $3.01M

Feels like it will end up somewhere in the 120-130 range when all’s said and done.

I could see it, but I don’t really believe it. Outside of the big event crossovers and SM:H, the run-of-the-mill MCU film typically does about 20% of its total business on opening weekend, which would put Wasp on course for around $19 million...so 21.5 isn’t crazy. But I suspect you’re right about this being a bit more frontloaded. 15 seems more right to me, though I’d be happy to be wrong.

Domestic from boxoffice.com:

ANT-MAN AND THE WASP
$1.33M 3-Day Weekend (Est.)
$1.63M 4-Day Weekend (Est.)
$213.79M Total (North America)

Solo now in the rear view mirror.

$594 million! That’s FANTASTIC! :D It’d be so hilarious if Ant-Man and the Wasp ended up outgrossing Justice League in the end (Although it’s already undoubtedly made Marvel Studios more money, once you start talking about the money the studio actually gets).

I dont think another 658 mil is possible. I doubt it will even pass Thor The Dark World (644 mil).
Its still amazing.
