Quantumania Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania

I just do not understand the logic of filming a conversation in the middle of a battleground. Even in things like Endgame or Infinity War they made sure it was quick barbs back and forth while doing things. Nothing is taken seriously. You could easily have filmed this dialogue in a way that they are fighting as they are talking but because they probably had no effin clue what the final picture was gonna look like they just filmed a conversation as plainly as possible to just fill in the gaps later.

That’s the biggest problem with the MCU, stakes are gone and it all feels cobbled together in the editing room. Not because it got too big, not because of fatigue. Because of **** writing, studio mandates and lack of consistent world building. Infinity War did such a great job of keeping the characters within that film consistent but also part of a much bigger picture and also care about the characters.

Now I care about barely any and some I don’t even know what they do anymore. Loki, Dr Strange and Wanda are all examples of characters in which I have no idea what their powers actually are anymore. Again not because it’s too big but because the writers in charge have done such a poor job keeping things consistent.
It reminds me of the New Asgard battle from Love and Thunder. Here we have Thor seeing Jane for the first time since forever. And she’s Lady Thor. And we have Gorr’s creatures attacking and kidnapping kids. But Thor plays it as a joke and the tone is completely in contrast to what the moment should be.

Just bought tickets for Friday. Majors please be great!

I'm sorry but this looks awful.

How one writes and shoot this crap and then goes "Yeah, this is good stuff" I will never understand. The exact same childish and tired attempt at being funny all the time as in Love & Thunder.

I mean, when writing this, in your heart of hearts do you envision the audience cracking up over this? Really? Marvel needs to grow the Hell up then.

It just automatically sucks any tension out because if the characters aren't taking the situation seriously, why should the audience? This scene would have been cute if it was written in a very different scenario.

I think a lot of us who watch a lot of movies maybe tire of the Marvel humor formula, but it's there for a reason. That reason is the general movie going public. The non-cinephiles. Clearly they must think they need the yucky to keep the characters likeable for those audience members. It's been a winning formula for like 30 films, so I cannot say they're wrong about it

Honestly, this doesn't bother me so much. Marvel Comics having characters banter is a typical thing that's been going on for decades.

What bothers me more is in like Age of Ultron when Fury brings "Oh no is Cap going to scold us about language again" when it's not really funny anymore. Like the joke wasn't even that great to begin with. Mentioning it again later doesn't make it funnier.

Well, sure, but it doesn't mean people can't get sick of it if you overdo it too much. Love and Thunder is a prime example of this, where it just became overused to an obnoxious degree.

Plus, a person's not in the wrong if they happen to disagree with a majority opinion.

Really though?

Moon Knight, She Hulk, Hawkeye, Falcon and the Winter Soldier aren't better than the best phase 4 movies for me which are No Way Home and Wakanda Forever. And worse than the likes of Multiverse of Madness and Black Widow.

And how many of the Future shows will be in everyone's radar for them to coeXist with the movies? The movies are more important in the grand scheme of things. And who knows if Feige produces fewer shows, the upcoming movies would be a lot better? We didn't have mcu shows from Marvel Studios in phase 3 and those were the better days.

The only shows I thought matched the movies in terms of being best quality were WandaVision and Loki. I have no desire to watch any of the others again.

I mean I liked Iman Vellani as Kamala Khan, but that was kind of an underwhelming ending for her show. Her villain wasn't interesting and got defeated before the finale.

Moon Knight was an utter disappointment.

She-Hulk had its moments, mainly the origin story and the Daredevil episode, but the shows haven't been that much better to me.

I never said they were wrong. I am just pointing out why Marvel movies tend to be heavily loaded with humor. Again, I can easily see some getting sick of it, but Marvel has to have market research indicating the opposite. Otherwise they would be toning it down. Not doubling down

People complain about the Marvel formula and the humor, but audiences also respond to the humor more often than not.

I think the humor and jokes are a mostly defense mechanism and a crutch. Do I think they get overused at times? Yes. But I think the reason they have those jokes is by having characters joke about "look how silly and dumb this is" it kind of puts the audience at ease and brings them along for the ride. Sort of like in X-Men when Hugh Jackman jokes "Sabretooth? What do they call you? Wheels? This is the stupidest thing I've ever heard."

The Marvel Studios movies had their jokes and humor and DCEU films were very dark and self-serious with very few jokes. But I think even with the humor and jokes the films and characters still had heart overall.

But there are times when I think the comedy just doesn't land. In the Ant-Man films I never cared for the Michael Pena humor.

I'm gonna wait to watch this on Disney +.

I was interested in it after the second trailer , but , the recent reviews certainly don't make me eager to go out to the theater, and all that comes with that, and to go see this film.

Then again, at this point, I'm pretty iffy about going out to the theater in general unless it's a film I'm truly interested in seeing in the theater first .

Otherwise, I'm willing to wait to stream it and watch it at my own pace which is mostly what i've been doing lately.

Same here. No way am I paying ticket prices and I won't buy this sight unseen.:(

Just a reminder that Bob Chapek had really nothing to do with the creative at Disney these last few years. Iger was still executive chairman and he was the one in charge of the creative.

Finally someone says it.
Bob Iger was still in charge, when every series from WV to She Hulk were announced at SDCC and D23 in 2019.

But to be fair the plans before the pandemic were:
2020: FatWS, WV
2021: Loki, Ms. Marvel
2022: Moon Knight, She Hulk, Something unannounced (maybe Secret Invasion)

I think they were on a good way before the pandemic , but putting 4 series into 2021 probably restricted their capacities. WV and Loki were very good (Hawkeye too imho), but were almost finished before the pandemic.

I‘ve seen it. Despite saying, I won’t watch it in my IMAX (they showed it in the end and gave Avatar a break).

I loved it. I liked it better than any Phase 4 movie. The world building is amazing. You feel like watching a Star Wars movie - so many different creatures.
The effects weren’t so cheap looking (except MODOK) and I only had 1-2 times the feeling they’re in front of a green screen.
The uneccesarry humor is there, but it’s only 20% of What it was in Thor LaT.
MC and PC scenes were awesome. Best midcredits and post credits in a very long time.

But one thing is for sure. I probably won’t watch another MCU movie in the cinema. I would’ve enjoyed it more on my OLED and a lot scenes were to dark with the filters of the IMAX glasses (like Tallocan in BP2). Guess I had to live with spoilers now, until it’s released on Disney+ (but that’s fine)

Harloff and Roxy Striar discussed the low scores on his show today. I can have wildly different views on some movies and tv shows than Roxy but she sounded like she loved the movie. Called it the most cohesive of the recent Marvel films. She thought Wakanda Forever is "the better movie" but she liked this one more. Harloff went to see it with his 11 year old daughter and she really liked it a lot (for those who are wondering if it's suitable for kids). She thought it "played long" while Roxy thought "Whoa! We got there fast!". Late/delayed screening time might have played into the kid's opinion. I won't link the video because there's some "LANGUAGE!" in it but the discussion is time stamped on the video.

Even the MarvelStudios subreddit is largely negative which is incredible to me. That sub was almost toxic in its positivity at one point so seeing them largely **** on it is a clear sign of the trajectory of the franchise.

It’s amusing how this is the common stance for people who seem to be enjoying the movie.

“I like it and I won’t apologise for it!” Reminds me of the early DCEU movies.

Or we have people who shame people who don't confirm to RT scores and like things critics deem rotten. I can think for myself. I like this movie and yall ain't gonna be able to guilt me into disliking it cause yall wanna rag on it for a RT score

I can’t speak for everyone here but I’m ragging on it because I watched it and thought it was way below par. All I’m saying is I’ve noticed a difference in people who don’t like it as they are usually giving long and detailed responses as to why and the people who enjoyed it seem to be exclaiming it out of defiance.

I get enjoying it as a sci fi romp and as some have been saying that they just had fun with it, perfectly valid, I don’t feel that way but I can’t begrudge people who do. But being like “I like it and I’m not sorry” feels more like a stance against Rotten tomatoes as opposed to merits of the film itself.

Then there are the people who have quasi-merged their identity with the MCU brand and it's survival. At this point it does have a cult-like following although it would appear critics are no longer a part of that.

I'm fine with people turning their noodle off and just want to consume the product no matter what was spat out. More power to them - but at least admit it when they're doing it.

Or maybe I just enjoyed the movie cause it thought it was good. Equally possible
