Comics anybody else dissapointed with Ultimate Spider-Man #100?

don't get me wrong..I still love USM and stuff ( and Bendis and Bagley )..I'm just wearying of the screwing with the fans heads..as well as the protracted storylines. Alot of people were so happy to see Gwen back, and now it looks like it was all a tease. I don't like it when writers mess with their fans' heads.
( It's also disgust at some other comics spilling over..like ASM etc, I find USM and Spider-man loves MJ have been my lifeboat.)
It's also, you realize how much time you spend thinking of this, and reading etc, and wonder if there isn't a better use for your time and energy.

I really don't see how he's "screwing with Fans heads". I mean he hasn't even said that Gwen's return would be permanent. We really don't know. It could go either way.
And also as much as I would love to see Peter and MJ get back together. This seperation between them is great for the book. Makes the reconciliation that much better. I'm glad that Bendis isn't rushing into it.

Anyway as far as Issue 100 was concerned. I personally loved it. It was alot of information to grasp but Bendis delievered. The whole "not really double size" situation bugged me at first. But Bagley is my favorite artist ever so I had no problem looking at his artwork.

I don't really see how he's screwing with fans heads either, but to each his (or in this case, her) own.
I also really liked 100, and don't mind so much about the double-sized thing, especially since we are now getting a double-sized 104, which is the EIGHTH part of this arc (which was originally supposed to be a seven-parter).

i was kind of hoping for an original arc instead of rehashed versions of things that happened in the original marvel universe, but i can live with that, what bugged me was that it was a giant sized issue with a 22 page comic story and a bunch of filler.
I liked it, it was worth the cover price..
I actually liked all the extra stuff they put in there.

I'm glad it's only eight parts and not 398493284983924328419823498231948823174831274837 parts like in 616 universe.

I'm actually gonna say it...

THREE CHEERS FOR DECOMPRESSION!

Well for the record, if 101 is as good as 97 was, I'll change my tune. I understand Bendis's need to keep the future secret, but I don't like it when he says "NO!! this or that" and then they pop up 10 issues later. ( example: Carnage and Vulture ) It seems dishonest. And then when they hype something up, ( like Gwen's return ), only to be a major disappointment.
I'm going to stick with it for now, and trust that Bendis has a plan. Feature, I remember how you said you collect by TPB, correct? It's much less frustrating that way. ( cliffhangers don't really count )

I have a friend who reads Ultimates and Ultimate Spidey by collecting every TPB. Needless to say, he gets a lot more enjoyment out of it than I do.

I didn't discover USM until last fall. The library had up to Superstars, so I borrowed em and read them, and LOVED them. It had just the right mix of fighting and romance and drama. I bought Hobgoblin and Warriors, and starting collecting in Silver Sable. Since then, I have faithfully trekked down to the comic book store for my monthly fix, but I think part of the reason I think so fondly back on the earlier issues, is because they were in TPB form, like they are meant to be. Cliffhangers drive me nuts, so I think that's been taking away from the enjoyment as well. It was also more enjoyable when they were in bi-monthly format, because the resolutions came quicker.

Yep

If the the original Clone Saga was split up into a few tpbs, I think a lot more people would enjoy it. That's not to say that it isn't disjointed as hell, but it was hard to follow a different arc in the four monthly titles every month.

The bi-monthly issues were shorter, right? I think I remember them doing that in the Green Goblin returns arc. But it wasn't a bad thing to me, that arc is still my favourite.

Yes, with USM, tbps are the way to go. I don't mind hearing all the spoilers months in advance and speculating with you guys, but they only way I read USM is in tpb installments. The stories just flow really well that way.

Quickie version, someone else can explain it to you more in-depth I imagine:

Pete gets into an argument with Kitty, and later encounters the Scorpion at the mall. During the battle the mask is damaged, and the face underneath is none other than Peter Parker. Meanwhile, someone kidnaps Mary Jane from her room. (USM #97)

Peter takes the Scorpion-clone to the Baxter Building to the Fantastic Four to analyze. Peter Parker reveals his identity to the group and then runs home so as not to be late. When he returns he discovers MJ's disappearance. Panicked, he runs to "the spot" where he encounters a girl with spider-powers (Spider-Woman). They tussle briefly, and she leaves. For some reason Pete return to his old house in Queens, where he finds a very confused Gwen Stacy. Meanwhile, Mary Jane awakens, captive in the old OsCorp facility. (USM #98)

The Fantastic Four attempt to communicate with the Scorpion. He mentions the zoo, wondering if he's returned there and mentions that there are others at the zoo. Scorpion tries to escape, and Reed decides that this situation is too big not to bring in Nick Fury, despite protests from Peter in the previous issue. Mary Jane's captor - who turns out to be a deformed Peter Parker clone - tells MJ that he's going to give her super-powers so that he won't have to worry about protecting her anymore. A dumbfounded Peter tries to figure out what to make of Gwen when Aunt May arrives. Aunt May freaks out and Peter reveals that he's Spider-Man to her. Richard Parker enters and asks her to calm down, and May speaks to him as if she knew he was alive already. Meanwhile, after being informed of the clone situation, Nick Fury assembles a team to go and take down Peter. (USM #99)

It's revealed that Richard Parker never actually died because at the last second, Richard chose not to get on the plane that later crashed, killing Mary Parker and the Brocks. After that he was recruited by a government splinter cell hoping to monitor Nick Fury's actions and take him down if necessary. He is unable to resume his old life or inform any of his relatives that he's still alive. At one point he goes rogue and approaches May, who flips out on him and tells him to stay away from Peter. This is around the time when Nick Fury shows up, and things go nuts. Gwen transforms into Carnage and leaps out to battle the soldiers, and May's heart gives out. Meanwhile, at OsCorp, the Deformed Clone is confronted by a Six-Armed Clone. The two fight, and the Deformed Clone is victorious. He then resumes his experimentation on Mary Jane. (USM #100)

That ended up being more in-depth than I wanted it to be. But there you go.

Thanks a million, dude. I think that summed it up for me nicely.

Technically issue 99 was issue 100 since there was a #1/2.

.... No. Issue 100 was issue 100.

check out wikipedia under "Ultimate Spider-man story arcs", for a similar thing to what he just said. Though I personally have had to edit it, b/c some dumb-butt was screwing with it.
So, it was YOU who attempted to thwart my nefarious scheme!

The cool thing about where I work, Borders, is that I just read each issue and then put it back on the shelf, and don't have to feel bad about it. :D So I'm kinda glad I didn't spend any money on USM 100.

c'mon..Reed richards would SO not poop on Peter's clone. :cwink: I believe in accuracy for new people who may be curious.

Wow, did they really write that? What other craziness did they write that you had to edit?

Man, gotta love Wiki...

Were there any Lizard or Curt Conners appearances in USM # 100, either in the story or the sketch sections?

No, he was not in the story or the character sketch sections.

However, they did show a variant cover the originally intended to use for issue 60 [First part of the Carnage arc], which featured the Lizard.

It was pretty cool.

^ Well, that's enough for me to have to buy the issue. Thanks for the info.
