Anybody got a parrot or know much about them?

One of my managers at work has a Maccaw (sp?) and he loves that bird like a child.

My experience with parrots....loud and dirty. They can act like a small spoiled child if you don't give them enough attention as well.

That's because they have the intelligence of a small child and are flock animals, so they need lots of attention and interaction. The only people I know who have had bad experiences with parrots are the ones who didn't take proper care of one.
 
I know that some can outlive humans and it's probably not wise, for their sake, to get one unless you're not older than 25 or so for that reason.
 
Macaws and Greys and other large species can live 50-80 years, some even 100, which is why most people put them in their will and leave them to the care of their children or someone else who could care for the bird after their death.
