I do, it's a lot of fun. If you can call it that. I program in all of the local frequencies, police, mta, airport, hospital, EMS and get to listen in to all of the things that go on around my town.
Just plug it in and leave it on all day.

Somebody was just found dead not too far from me

Yeah I have one of those tells me if theres trouble around my town.

Nope. My grandmother used to have one though.

I do. I use it mostly when I go to NASCAR races and listen to the driver communicate with the crew during the race. I seldom turn it on to actually listen to the police, but I have been known to accidentially listen to my step daughters conversations on the cordless phone.:D

You could be like Batman and always make an appearance around the crime scene.

Just start weight training now, so you don't risk being Bubba's Betty.

Though he is normally full of wisdom, do not listen to the Canadian this time. The police will start to grow suspicious if every time there's a murder, you're standing over the body when they arrive...

It's lots of fun? AND they just found a dead body not too far away? WOW! Maybe tommorrow, they'll find two dead bodies. That would be twice as fun.

I have a scanner with me now. My boss MAKES ME take it home for one week a month. I hate it.
If they find a dead body at 10 p.m. I have to get dressed and go take pictures of it. Blchh. Same goes for fatal car wrecks and murders and hostage situations and house fires and drownings. I wish you were in my state. Then you could listen to the scanner for me.

I'd rather take the pictures.

Do you get to pose them?

No. But that would be morbidly funny. To some people. But not me. Because I am respectful.
In reality, I usually just end up getting a gurney with a shape on it under a sheet. Or a picture of firefighters standing around outside a house. I'd rather take pictures of live people. I'm not supposed to pose them, either.

I probably wouldn't last long. My first instincts when I come across a dead body is to tie it up with string on all the limbs and manipulate it into dancing a jig.

I know people who listen to scanners like some people listen to the radio. There's nothing wrong with it. It's really not my thing though. Of course, I can appreciate that there are individuals in the law enforcement or medical field who have them, and periodically monitor them.

Don't be mad at me, it just satisfies my morbid curiosity.
The fun part isn't hearing about people dying, but more of finding out all of the stuff that happens around and in my town. News that never reaches the papers, I hear first.
I can understand that if you had to listen all of the time it's probably depressing. But I have the option of turning it off whenever I like.

Hell yeah I do. I even have a license plate reflector so the camera's can't send me a bill in the mail. I hear that they are illegal in some locations, but not in Louisiana :D... or actually, they might be, but I haven't been spotted yet I guess.

Is this thread about police Detectors?.. is there a difference? if not on the former, negate the above statements.

It scans police radio frequencies and stuff. So when they're calling in things you hear it.

I have a thing that "blip"s whenever a cop is near. Makes a noise, so you'll know if there are police cruisers near, so that you can follow the law when it is convinent.

Yeah. Those are totally different. And illegal. :o

Just teasing. Yes, I know it can be fun to hear about what is going on before other people find out. I always imagined if someone were really a superhero, they'd almost have to have a scanner to find those who need assistance. :supes:
