One thing that has been bugging me for the past year now is Indie music. It's so damn annoying. It's terrible music. I preferred the days of boy bands to this garbage. It's mostly the British indie bands are the worst.

Noel from Oasis says it best:

Oasis front man Noel Gallagher isn't too happy with the new wave of indie outfits ursurping his band's spot in listeners' hearts.
In fact, he’s so put off by the new generation of British bands that he dissed the likes of Franz Ferdinand and Bloc Party on Australia’s Triple J radio.
“Let’s call it for what it is. It’s indie ****, is what it is,” he spouted on the air.

The Killers were quite good at first now they are just a clone like the rest of the indie bands.

This is the kind of trash that is on the radio everyday
Quite bad

When will it end? When will this trash trend end?

As a musician, it seems like "The End Times".
That "She's So Lovely" **** was skull-crackingly, truly, horrifyingly ****.
Seriously, **** them all.
You should have to pass some kind of a test before they'll sell you a musical instrument. :(:(:(:(:(:(:(

Not exactly. While what we're getting right now might suck, I'll go through 500 miles of crap to get that one band that's really worth listening to, that one band that makes an impact.

If only:csad:

That's all horrible...listening to those just for a short amount of time has now ruined my day...thanks a lot Lunar Wolf.

I stopped listening to new music. Make a thread if you find an Indie band that isn't terrible, and I'll listen to it.

The only real good indie band is Arctic Monkeys all the other indie bands suck most of the time. There are just to much of those crap bands nowadays.

Now you feel the pain I feel everyday:csad:

God, I hate the term "Indie"

What you dislike are the pop rock and pop punk bands that are being promoted by the record labels right now following the success of bands like Franz Ferdinand and The Killers.

"Indie" bands that fall under the same label but aren't the same crappy sound include Modest Mouse, The National, Against Me!, Arctic Monkeys, The Raconteurs, The Arcade Fire, Broken Social Scene and the Black Keys. ALL of these bands are "Indie" bands, yet none of them sound like that cr@p the OP posted.

What we need is ROCK AND ROLL bands.

The White Stripes, The Raconteurs, The Black Keys, The Hold Steady, Black Rebel Motorcycle Club, British Sea Power, Cold War Kids, Kings of Leon, The Strokes.... Great Rock and Roll is still being made, you just have to look for it.

hahahah, It's really horrible. I stopped listening to new music 3 years ago. It seems like you don't have to know **** about music to be in a indie band. All you need is a whining vocalist, some generic horrible guitar riffs, obscure/trite/superficial lyrics and some nice looking girls to be in your video, and you probably make it.

it's like any other musical movement that hits the mainstream:

-a handful of bands from a certain scene/genre that have been around for a while break through the mainstream
-said bands become international success, plus the token band that got snatched just a little while after forming
-every mayor company starts scouting for anyone who fits the profile of the soon-to-be fad
-more bands rise through, each next one with a much more diluted sound than the last one
-said genre, which originally represented the true underground ethos, starts generating a backlash, eventually generating much more crap
-a "new" genre, that by the way, has been around independent/underground circles starts generating buzz

and you start all over

it happened in the late 70's/early 80's with punk, which evolved into new wave, no wave and ended up as bland, 80's synthpop
then in the early 90's with college radio, which became grunge, alternative, then any band that wasn't at first seen as hard rock or metal (interestingly, Soundgarden and Alice In Chains were at first considered metal bands, AIC even toured with Slayer, Megadeth and Anthrax)
the mid-late 90's saw the rise of nu-metal, which was a response to the metal backlash, generated by the grunge explosion, and see how that turned out
in the early 00's it happened with indie music, which is starting to generate its own backlash

what's next? zydeco core? death metal pop?

Most of those bands are okay, not "great", with the exception of the Strokes, who suck. I see them as the precursor to all of the **** bands currently.

It was when it became "hip" to play guitar really poorly and to strive for ****ty production.

All I've heard for years that has consistently brought me pleasure has been The White Stripes, Queens of the Stone Age and The Eagles of Death Metal...then you have a lot of bands where you respect what they're doing, but don't actually want to listen to it (The Black Keys), and of course, the ever-present "Band with one or two really good songs and tons of sub-par filler".

In all honesty, the music I wish would die in a fire is that "screamo" ****. If you're gonna growl, growl like you mean it. If you're gonna scream, time it right so it has effectiveness. Don't pee on my leg and tell me it's raining. Or better yet, just don't pee on my leg.

The only "indie" (a term used wrongly far too often) band I actually like is Franz Ferdinand, mostly because when they came out they were new and exciting, and being from my home town helps I suppose. Their first album was absolutely fantastic.

A lot of these extremely ****ty new bands have been riding on the success of Franz. And Franz Ferdinand have even came out and said that they're going to go for a different sound with their third album which they're currently recording, just because all these **** indie bands have copied them and that style is now old and stale, not to mention extremely boring.

Glad to hear they are changing, let's hope indie bands do not copy there new sound.

LOL too true

Stop listening to the Indie Pop which is on the radio, and get down to finding out information about different bands. There's a good amount of indie music out there, and you're certainly not going to find it in the top 20 charts. You picked some good reasons to hate indie music though, as The Kooks need a good wash and better clothes.

Check these out, and if you don't like em...well, erm...just sit back, put your fingers in your ears and await the next huge shift in the music industry.
