Does the music of this decade suck?

Want an example? Now people make fun of suburban white kids trying to mimicate gangsta rappers... Back then it was the same thing with punks. Kids who had no idea what it was like to grow up in working class England were using mohicans and pins and **** like that. There´s a cool scene about it in the short-lived That 80`s Show. There was this girl who loved to pose as a punk, and a guy told her, "You´re not punk, you´re retro. While you were wearing your Barbie jammies and enjoying Bay City Rollers, I was going to Sex Pistols shows"...

Well, every decade imitates a previous one. But that's not the point. It's how the music world is far less commendable quality wise then any other decade.

And the point is people have said that in all three decades I lived in. The thing is, people look back and the bad stuff has been forgotten and people realize there was more good stuff than they thought, because at the time it was buried under the tons of crap recording companies flood the market with.

actually Death Cab is pretty good.
they've gotten impossibly big so it becomes fashionable to beat up on them.
it is pretty shocking when 6 years ago it was like "death what for what again?" and now they're played on mainstream Radio all the time.
it's like the Shins, poor, poor Shins. :(

Oh no.
I don't hate them because they're big and famous.
I hate them because they suck and bore to death.

Yes, but in this decade, it's far more common to hear even the youth of this generation to say it. And no, I don't think people will be saying that when it's over, because there's not even much good music outisde the mainstream, and the stuff that is is extremely hard to locate. The underground material does not have enough of a following to be mentioned in a positive light in ten years or so.

I remember the youth of my generation and it´s not very different. A lot of the stuff that starts as underground becomes mainstream eventually.

NOW it´s hard to locate underground stuff? Dude, in my time we didn´t have Internet, Youtube, Itunes, nothing!

 hmm, well again, this seems like more a fashion statement than an actual preference. but I'm down with it, Music taste is nothing if not objective, except...well, in playing their instruments they far from "suck" and their cover of the smiths "this charming man" is pretty fast and noisy, and the whole quietLOUDquietLOUD without being emo Aesthetic was adopted by a few bands at the start of the century and Death Cab was one of them.
I'm not even like a big fan or anything, it just seems like there's tons of artists more deserving of scorn.
at least their Lyrics are pretty interesting sometimes.

No, my generation WORSHIPED the 70's and everyone was listening to classic rock and stuff.
EVERY generation thinks this way, if the music you're listening to sucks it doesn't mean that all the music sucks in the present.
you just listen to sucky music.

Well, I've browsed through Itunes and Youtube and I'v looked some underground bands, nothing really impressive. Nothing memorable. The best bands out there today are the ones that are mainstream but at the same time don't fit in with most mainstream pop radio, like The White Stripes for example. They're incredibly popular, yet I rarely hear them on the radio. What is good these days is not getting enough exposure.

you're either looking in all the wrong places, or not looking at all for good music.

there's plenty out there, and there's plenty of fans to go around.

I've searched youtube and I also talked to my cousin who's had experience in the music industry (he wrote songs for Journey on their last album), and I ask him if there's any underground bands he can recommend me, because in the past he often gave me albums by bands who had not been discovered yet. He said that he isn't impressed by the latest output most bands are putting out.

One thing no one can deny.
The band NAMES suck ass today.
This started in the early 90's with Toad The Wet Sprocket

OK so i went through every page but ended up skipping page 6, and didnt see a single mention of the biggest band in the world, U2. they have more grammies then any other band, havent made a bad album, and are just plain awesome. U2 rules

so because one guy doesn't like something, that means it's bad for everyone?
