Anyone else sick of Indie music?

Holy crap.... I just figured it out! This new crap is gonna take over by the age of our kids and we'll be yelling at them to "turn off that garbage!" like all our parents do/did to us.

Most of those bands are okay, not "great", with the exception of the Strokes, who suck. I see them as the precursor to all of the **** bands currently.

It was when it became "hip" to play guitar really poorly and to strive for ****ty production.

Yoooooooooooooooooooooooooou sonuva *****. :cmad:

However. It is your American right to express your opinion on this message board.

I think The Strokes are pretty similar to the White Stripes though

Well, their musical style at least :o

"Indie" music is actually the best stuff out today. (some of my favorites: The Raconteurs, Cold War Kids, Spoon, The 88)

What I'm sick of, is generic hip/hop, crappy punk bands that are more about image than music, and how the popular rock of today is crap like Nickleback and Daughtry.

I can't even listen to top 40 radio stations anymore. :csad:

Edit- this is not to say all Indie music is good, there's plenty of crap there too.
You and I could get along real well

I just saw the Raconteurs in NY last Friday and they were absolutely incredible. I pretty much love every song on both of their albums, but there were a few that really stood out when performed live, "Hold Up" and "Broken Boy Soldier" in particular. "Carolina Drama" was easily my favorite song on the new album (alright, maybe not so easily, I love most of them) and when they played it as the closing song it was awesome.

The Black Lips opened up for them too and played a great set. Their latest album "Good Bad Not Evil" is really good.

The Strokes are pretty good but they don't even touch the White Stripes. Jack White is a guitar god.

And to everyone who is talking about how all new music sucks and everything sounds the same, get over yourselves. It's not like all the good musicians died out. There's plenty of good music being made today. Maybe the mainstream stuff isn't your style, but that doesn't mean 'your style' music isn't being made. And most of the "Indie" bands that have been named in this thread are just mainstream bands with record label backing that are called "Indie" because that's flavor of the month.

I meant the Strokes are similar in that they have that style of like...Layered repetitious chords and riffs, with the occasional solo thrown in...Jack's solo's are a lot more complex though.

And yeah, I used to complain about current music all the time. But if you cut out the popular ********, and look around on youtube and Last FM, you're bound to find current bands who you'll like. There may not be many POPULAR bands that you like...but there are definitely some lesser-known bands out there that you will.

Even semi-popular current bands don't get much air-play. I never once heard any of the songs off of Radiohead's "In Rainbows" on the radio, and that's an awesome album.

Whatever, I guess they couldn't make time in between Flo-Rida's "Low"

There is definately some good Indie music out there but you have to shuffle through alot of crap to find something worth listening to. I think alot has to do with personal preference. I'll like something and be introduced to something similar but totally reject it.

I can't stand the emo screamo , It's not for me but some people out there like it . I'll never understand why .

some of the bands suck, but they usually disappear pretty quick. i do not expect vampire weekend to be around much longer.

arcade fire is amazing though.

i ****ing hate the term "indie music"! how is that even a genre? its not a genre, it cant be. it doesnt even describe the music, it describes a label status!

so are gonna set their barns on fire (grabs pitch fork)

It's so weird when you're listening to a bunch of bands and you think, "these guys are pretty ****, they sound like girls, and they dress kinda like girls too".

And then you listen to PJ Harvey and you're like "she has a gravelly voice, and her songs are more manly and 10 times as rocking than most of the **** out there - and she's a girl".
