The Amazing Spider-Man Anyone hate the shoes?

Show me some quotes from last year on here where people loved the shoes. It was a stunt shoe they thought while people like me said nope...that's the costume.

After they realized that then they suddenly think they are ok or they like them. You don't go into denial over something you like.

I remember in pretty much all sights the assertions that the silver slippers were stunt shoes and they would be edited out but once they were proven wrong when the movie came out the shoes were suddenly the coolest thing since sliced bread.

The shoes are stupid and ugly...you can rationalize it all you want but it doesn't make them not stupid and not ugly. Had they shown him using the shoes to make his costume, then it would have served a purpose. They didn't. All it was, was an ugly costume design. The End.

You can say you like them and think they look great but I think that's because you either dislike Raimi's movies and wanted a drastically looking costume to differentiate the movies or you think Webb is a genius film maker that went hyper realistic. Why do I make this assertion? Because back when we first saw them, everyone thought they were stunt shoes. Nobody on here thought they looked great. You can go back and look.
I know, it's such a stupid and ugly costume design. I can't believe people actually like it. Marc Webb is such a horrible film maker. Both (500) Days of Summer and The Amazing Spider-Man were crap films.

I don't think I was here when people started discussing the shoes way back when it was unclear whether they were part of the final suit in the movie. Not sure why that would matter though, because that isn't even related to the point. Believe it or not, there might be people out there that actually like the design so whether you like it or not, your opinion is not fact. You cannot declare that something is stupid and ugly and call it the end of the discussion.

Oh I am sure some people liked them at first glance...they don't post here and it's clearly not the majority. My assertion stands and I think it shows how petty people are that they like something out of hate for something else. Now tons of people on here like the shoes...how funny.

I didn't like the shoes at first glance. As a matter of fact, I didn't like the suit much at first glance either. Over time however, the visual design of the suit grew on me and now I actually like it. Once I was able to see it in the movie and see the suit in action...that was the selling point. Me liking the suit has absolutely nothing to do with my feelings about the classic suit nor how I feel about the Raimi films.

I don't like them because I dislike anything else. They just grew on me and I agree with you, that would be illogical and irrational. At first glance, your post seemed to me like it was saying that it is ridiculous to say that you like them, implying that no one really likes them and they are just saying that. Seeing how that isn't the case, I'm glad that we could come to an understanding.

I am sure some people liked the bat nipples but they served no purpose and were a pointless design choice.

You liked the shoes when you saw the movie because you couldn't really see the shoes. Sony knew they fugged up and a lot of the promo art had the shoes painted red.

I've never liked the argument that people's opinions can't/shouldn't change. It's dumb.

For the first few weeks, heck, even months that we were getting pics of Spidey's suit during filming, I hated it, even with the knowledge that movies seen through the lens of a passerby and not within the movie itself, almost almost look bad, I still had my reservations. But over time, my opinion changed. The new take on the suit began to grow on me after seeing official stills and footage. I began to *get* it. Its it perfect? God, no (neither was Raimi's, but it was still good). There are still aspects of the suit that I don't like, but overall I'm fond of the suit now.

Sure, one *could* argue that if it truly "was" a great suit, everyone would have loved it right from the get go, but realistically, we ALL know that isn't true. You could show a group of fanboys an image of a perfect square, and they would all bicker about it's quality.

The change in my opinion had nothing to do with denial, but simply overcoming the fanboy trademark of hating change. Some fanboys come around, some don't. To each their own.

Again, you can't decide what people like or why they like them. Maybe he genuinely liked how the shoes looked in the movie, maybe not. Either way, you have no say in that.

There are plenty of shots that showed the shoes. And I liked the shoes much like the rest of the suit because it grew on me throughout the course of time leading up to and including the movie.

That has to be the most f*&^ing pathetic reasoning I have ever read from someone.

What do box office numbers have to do with anything?! By that logic, when Batman Begins was released, most people prefered Keaton over Bale. But we don't know that for sure. It could have been the opposite.

And the poll? Really? When? What poll? Could I have a link?

My response wasn't reasoning. It was fact.

If box office numbers didn't matter, there wouldn't be a box office thread in this forum, with people touting TASM as "the most successful reboot ever!" Kinda like being the fastest snail ever..

No question there are very bad films that have made far too much money. But pretty much everyone except for fanboys acknowledges that the Raimi films with the exception of 3 are good films, so that isn't an issue.

One thing you can definitely take away from box office numbers is repeat business. People wanting more. And clearly far less wanted more of this movie than the others.

As for the poll, it's no longer there. Apparently Yahoo doesn't archive their polls. So you can take my word for it. I really don't need to make things like that up to "win" an argument on an internet forum.

To the people who don't like the texture on the suit or the shoes, what do YOU think the suit should've looked like if it kept the whole realistic thing going on? (NOTE: The Raimi trilogy suit DOES NOT COUNT!!!)

The suit is in the comics, starting with Amazing Fantasy #15. And what "realistic thing" are you talking about? There's nothing realistic about Spider-Man's world. There is no suit which would be "realistic" for him. He's an agility-based character and he wears a costume that makes it easy for him to move, similar to any acrobat. Because this is fantasy he's given a colorful costume with a spidery theme to it.

He doesn't need running shoes because:
1. Heavy running isn't apart of his normal activity (Unlike, say, the Flash). The kind of soles on the ASM suit are if you're running or jogging for miles at a time.
2. It would logically interfere with his natural climbing ability, which while never having been thoroughly explained (Although to correct someone, the bards in the Raimi films have been mentioned in the comics), regardless is generated from his skin. And there's no way he'd be making any useful contact through those thick soles.
3. In the comics, the boots have always been portrayed as having a thin layer at the sole, not as being merely stockings.
4. Being superhuman Spidey's muscle and bone structure would have to be more dense than a normal human. He doesn't need the same kind of protection.

I don't know how ANYONE could possibly like the bat nipples.

The box office numbers are definitely a tricky thing. Look at Spider-Man 3, the worst of the trilogy but the movie that made the most of the trilogy.

Similiar to my experience. My initial impression of the costume was poor. When Spiderman 2002 came out, I was so floored by how terrific and comic accurate the costume was, and now we had THIS for the reboot.

But, while still not as good as the costume from the Raimi movies, I have to say, it worked for me. It looked good in the film, and the shoes didn't even factor into my enjoyment or lack thereof from the movie.

I didn't so much care about them in Forever. With B&R, because the entire film was so bad, they stood out as just one more bad choice.

It was the highest grossing world wide, but the lowest grossing in the U.S. and regardless, if TASM was a GREAT movie, it would've gotten repeat business. It was a movie where one viewing was enough, and for some too much.
