Iron Man Anyone one else getting a weird vibe about the tone of this movie?

I don't mind wit and sarcasm, and I understand how that's relevant to Rhett Butler, I mean...Tony Stark. It just looks like they MAY have gone about a half a step too far in that direction.

May have.

Hey, a summer/popcorn movie can be done really well - it just hasn't in ages. All of the Indiana Jones movies were summer/popcorn movies and were great. If Favreau provides the right mix, then the results can be amazing. A superhero film does not have to be dark and brooding all the time, or a cheesefest, there is a perfect balance - sadly nobody has done that yet.

the hulk came in summer but u know how it was

The Indiana Jones movies were in fact very cheesy, but they were the cheese trendsetters and they were cheesy in a good way that imitators simply can't replicate.

Yes, these movies should have humor in them, but they shouldn't be stupid like the FF movies. Which turned them into dumb family/kiddy comedies.

Look at Incredibles which is a comic book super hero movie that still mixes in elements of seriousness, death, and suspense throughout the story as well as entertaining comedy.

It can work, it's just all about execution and presentation and how well the material sells it.

Look at Ghost Rider. The comedy came off terribly. And the drama and angst was C-level. And it seems whenever there was a chance to have a serious scene, they turned it into dumb comedy. Not to mention the villains were laughably bad and not believable at all.

Fullmetal Alchemist there's a series and a movie that could be funny one second and then deadly serious, scary, and emotional the next.

I agree with this 100%

I have no fear with IM, I think that the director and actors all have taken this very seriously and will make a very good movie with the proper tone, sure it will have some humour in it but I don't think it will be the campy style like SM3, FF, GR.

Just thinking about that style gives me nightmares.

I have no problem at all with the vibe. It reminds me of the Spiderman movies which is fine with me.

For those complaining or worrying about RDJ/Stark having a bit too much wit and sarcasm in this movie, look at the dialog on the cover of 158 in the countdown cover thread. Stark was never a brooding Bruce Wayne type.

Aren't people forgetting that Fox can't butcher this film?

I have extremely high hopes for this film. I have faith in Favreau and RDJ to create one of the best Marvel films so far. Yeah, I know...I've been told I'm putting a lot of faith into this...but I'm getting a great vibe from it.

How can you not, with a piece of armour which looks so identical to the comics?

As a movie fan, you'll probably enjoy it.

As a comic book fan, you'll probably hate it.

... like most of the Marvel movies.

Hopefully it will be good at all angles, though. :word:

Marvel wants to make sure people don't mistake Tony Starks for Bruce Wayne.

I think, Marvel is trying to make sure that Tony Stark out shines Bruce Wayne to be honest. If Bruce Wayne tells one joke, Tony Starks has to tells 5 jokes. Bruce Wayne a multi-millionaire, Tony Starks a multi-billionaire. Bruce Wayne manufactures Military weapons, Tony Starks manufactures Nuclear weapons. Bruce Wayne is a playboy, Tony Starks is a pornstar. Bruce Wayne drives a Pagani Zonda Roadster F C12S 7.3, Clubsport (valued @ $667,321), Tony Starks drives a Bugatti Veyron 16.4 (valued @ $1,192,057). Bruce Wayne drinks Grey Goose, Tony Starks drinks Jack Daniels then has a heart attack.

Bruce Wayne owns Tony Starks.

Tony Stark, not Starks. Who says Marvel is trying to do that, though? Perhaps the studio just want to portray Tony like he is in the comics.
Never noticed that Stark always tries to aspire to be Batman, that's news to me :o

please don't troll these message boards, thanks

The humour is only there to highlight tony stark's alcoholic care free nature, it's his crutch with dealing with all of this crap...

it's highlighted in trailers but hopefully wont be a fundamental aspect of the film like spidey or the ff franchise.

Just try and stop me.

I think I will give Superman a break and patrol these boards....

I'm sure a mod will stop you, easily. It's called getting banned. You'll love it!

You know what you're going to get when Robert Downey Jr. is involved. And I'm not against that. But lately, everything I've seen from IRON MAN almost makes it look like a cheesefest. They're really playing up the humor angle a lot more than they did before in earlier showings of the trailer, etc. Anyone else getting that vibe a little?

Heard the same things with FF. It's a conic book movie. I refuse to go thru this again, but Marvel comics are not dark and dreary. You want dark, see The Dark Night. Nothing could have been chessier then Transformers, but the public loved it. Light harted is not always bad. It has it's comic relief the sugary side if you will, then there's the other side. The combonation can work, if the humor is not overdone to distraction.

Iron man looks good but so did Daredevil, so did SR, so did Hulk, so did Elektra and Catwoman (well I did say LOOK GOOD lol, yeah that was corny but I don't care).
The only comic-based movie I'm seeing this summer is TDK. If I get my hopes up for this movie I will be disappointed.
Plus I need someone to school me on the director, what GOOD movie(s) did he direct.

LOL!! I just looked this guy up on IMDB...he Directed DAREDEVIL!!! LOL!! Iron man is going to be the dud of the summer!!! LOL!! This movie gonna blow! LOL!!

I'm leaving this board, the Iron Man movie is already is doomed.

Nevermind, I tooked a closer look at his credits he didn't direct Daredevil he acted in it. His credits as a director is not very impressive still. The only movie he directed that I've seen is Elf and that movie was average at best.

#1 Iron Man (2008) (post-production)
#2 "In Case of Emergency" (1 episode, 2007)
- Pilot (2007) TV Episode
#3 Zathura: A Space Adventure (2005)
... aka Zathura (International: English title: short title) (USA: promotional title)
#4 Elf (2003)
#5 Life on Parole (2003) (TV)
#6 "Undeclared" (1 episode, 2002)
- Eric's POV (2002) TV Episode
#7 Made (2001)
#8 Smog (1999) (TV)

See ya later :cwink:

The Fantastic Four movies sucked though because they couldn't balance it at all. They were stupid. And so was Ghost Rider.

Good, don't let the door hit your ass on the way out!

Gee did the director of Pirahna 2 have any good credentials before going on to direct Terminator 1&2, Aliens and $600+ Titanic, or how about little known cult directors that directed little seen films like Memento, Evil Dead or Frighteners.

I know lets get known Oscar winning directors to direct future Marvel films because that was the winning formula for Batman Forever and Batman and Robin

Like I said see ya and GTFO troll!

I...don't know what trolling is. o_o

as per urbandictionary.com

1. trolling
Being a prick on the internet because you can. Typically unleashing one or more cynical or sarcastic remarks on an innocent by-stander, because it's the internet and, hey, you can.

2. trolling
Trolling is the act of purposefully antagonizing other people on the internet, generally on message boards. When done in a moderated internet community, this can result in banning. When done to uptight people such as fundies, this can result in hilarity.
Apparently I can't post links here, so I can't give a good example of trolling. Sorry.

3. Trolling
To use the internet to start problems, insult, or hurt others. An action that only usually affects the person trolling.
Usually a very bored, lonely person with no friends. Or a punk ass kid.

4. Trolling
Act of appearing on internet forums and boards with malicious intent. Trolling includes...

-batting people to flame at you
-putting the forum down and encouraging people to leave.
-flaming
-spamming
-using several identities on a board to support your own arguments / stage pretend arguments
-generally being a dick on a power trip.
Some trolls claim they actions benefit others. These trolls are also *****.

this guy's totally right!

I love iron man ever since I was a kid in the 1970's
and Farveau is going to make this movie great!
no doubt about it.
that's why I'm never on the iron man board too much.

but I'm always on the punisher board becuase I truly don't how that movie will end up. with Lexi alexander becuase she's unproven.

but iron man is #2 favorite comic and there no doubt to me "Favreau"
he's up there with sam rami & C nolan.
