I don't get what the issue is here. It seems fine.
There is no way this movie won't be cool.

But there is absolutely no need for Iron Man to have that kind of depth.
Iron Man is light entertainment, always has been.
Not that, it almost literally seems like a cheesy 80's movie at points.
I am not knocking the character when I say light entertainment, but it is true that overall Iron Man comics aren't high art. Doesn't mean they are trash, as I firmly believe that light entertainment is pretty much the best form of entertainment.Iron Man can be a very complex character.
I disagree.
He's dealt with alcoholism, intrigue, the business world, government policy and has had serious trust issues with his allies (The Armor Wars, Civil War, The Crossing). Which certainly isn't light hearted entertainment.
To be fun and exciting. Jeez people this is Comic Book 101 stuff here.
Every comic book movie is more than just light entertainment....way more. But there is absolutely no need for Iron Man to have that kind of depth. Iron Man is light entertainment, always has been.

You know, I've been having the same feeling since the first teaser. I hope that they really aren't making a comedy. But lately, everything I've seen from IRON MAN almost makes it look like a cheesefest. They're really playing up the humor angle a lot more than they did before in earlier showings of the trailer, etc. Anyone else getting that vibe a little?
Whats the deal with this thread? I don't get a wierd vibe from this movie at all. This movie is going to be a fun, entertaining and funny movie with a simple story (what have been shown so far) rather than some serious, dark and complex story. I've had enough of those movies already. I guess people are forgetting the point of comic books huh?

If you want to blame someone for making a superhero movie the way it should be, blame Ang Lee first.Isn't it obvious?
Thank Chris Nolan for taking the J out of joy when it comes to comicbook films.

Iron Man isn't Watchmen. Nobody should expect it to be.

Thank Chris Nolan for taking the J out of joy when it comes to comicbook films. Don't be surprised if the next Spider-man film has Spidey wearing some kind of rubber body armor and he uses a grappling hook instead of shooting webs along with climbing claws.
Super-hero movies can vary between being super serious and comedic.
It just depends on what franchise they're adapting.
Agreed. Look at Spider-Man. A lot of comedic elements, but plenty of drama. The X-Men, some comedic relief but not a whole lot, leans more towards the drama. Fan 4, A LOT OF COMEDIC elements. It just depends on the franchise and what subjects they deal with.
Spider-Man discusses entering into adulthood and taking responsibilty. A lot of chance for comedy and drama because that is basically what our teens were like. Either very funny or pretty serious.
X-Men deals with issues of discrimination and intolerance and the acceptance of those who are different. Heavy stuff not a lot of chance for humor. Some humor, but not a lot.
Iron Man looks like it will a good mix of both. A lot humor will come from Stark and his experimentation with the armor.
The only part I don't agree with you with FF.
The comics do have some comedic and wacky moments only they're not there most of the time. FF is more about exploring wierd places, fighting the occasional super villain who is deadly serious and family drama. The movies make it look like a bad Saturday Night Live sketch with a big budget.
