The Dark Knight Anyone think Alfred is haveing too big of a role in the new movies?

not only is michael caine a great actor, but the alfred character is pretty important. he basically raised bruce all by himself. so in that way, he is like aunt may. he is the parental figure for bruce. and he was perfect in BB. i kind of anticipate there being more batman in this than bruce wayne, so there may actually be less alfred. but we don't know.

gordon's been seen in full swat gear driving one of the vans and seemed to have a lot of scenes in the sides, so people that thought he was shortchanged last time should be satisfied this time around

what i mean is, spiderman gets the black suit and gets "consumed" by his darker persona, then aunt may has to give him that dumb little morality speech about "becoming a darker person" or whatever. i just dont want that same corny sh** to happen in TDK.

I doubt Alfred will supply Bruce with a "Bad Guy Defeating Speech" (tm) to be used to end every big fight.

For a taste of what Anthony Hopkins would have been like as Alfred (Nolan's first choice), check out "remains of the day", a great movie he shot right after silence and where he plays the ultimate butler. And probably the reason why he declined the offer in the first place.

I love alfred, dont get me wrong, batman needs him. but why are they making him into an aunt may type of character and treating him like hes a main character or the source of bruces strength when he should just be the butler who follows orders? alfred is there for good advice and getting things done, hes like goliath to bruces davy, but they are giving him more screentime and story then friggin Gordon! they should make gordon the focus, if anyone, not alfred.
I think his screen time is perfect and it shouldnt be changed

He's a bit different than the comics, but his role seems just right for film.

The answer to why Alfred is in the movies a lot is simple = Michael Caine

I would seriously sit through a 4 hour dark knight

Alred's role is perfect in these movies. Would you prefer his only lines in the film be "yes Mr. Wayne.." And every 3 minutes he goes and fetches some wine for him?

Alfred: "We need some more wine" Bruce: "6.....6?" Knox: "Yeah, 6 is good" :)

interestingly enough, that is one of my favorite parts of batman89. i thought the way knox said that was hilarious. it was just a good exchange with all of them. classic. batman89 is still a good movie. it's no batman begins. but it's still pretty entertaining. batman returns on the other hand (which i used to love as a kid) is now just laughable which its over the top cornballery.

tis true, im afraid. i think it was because i HATED gordon driving the batmobile, and that gordon was hardly developed in Begins, so he wasnt much different from the B89 gordon cept he wasnt there at bruces parents murder. so, essentially, BB gordon is B89 gordon but without the oneliners. but thats only my opinion. i would like to see gordon ALOT more in TDK and not just making quick cameo appearances and doing dumb things like playing videogames in batmobile.

A Whining Burtonfanboy. A dark comedy thriller direced by Batman Jr. Coming soon to a goddmann theater near you.

I thought Alfred scenes were fine in BB, nothing to worry about in TDK.

as a brit myself, caine is an actor that isn't as greatly looked apon by us brits as he is by others. he's mocked in comedy skits ect...

i think alfred is my favourite caine performance. obviously not his best of all time...but it's MY favourite.

i hope he get's a nice role in the dark knight.

i think it depends. if alfred would be boring in BB then i would say today: who cares about him. he is only the butler. but he was so good written in BB that i want to see him. we need him.

hell no, Alfred is the man... and basically another "part" of batman/bruce so he needs some decent screen time. Gordo def needs a little bit more time in this film than in the last one, and we'll probably get it

No.

Afred is the consciene of Bruce Wayne and tht plays a part in how he does his actions as Batman.

I think Alfred's screen time was perfect. He not only was a friend and companion to Bruce, but he also helped him in his time of need.

The last thing I want is for Alfred to turn into an Aunt May clone. In SM3 it seemed as if Aunt May was just there to say something important about the movie's theme. I love how Alfred is just as important to the story as any other character.

ARE YOU FREAKING KIDDING ME?? Gordon was hardly developed? He was almost a main character, not reduced to a cameo like B89. I loved how they laid the foundation down to him becoming a close ally to Batman, which was pretty big in the books. In the old franchise, Alfred and Gordon were basically in the background. BB brings all the characters together and brings them to life. It was excellently handled.

Can we close this ridiculous and unnecessary thread??
