I have about 100+ or so DC direct and various DC figures that I opened and put on a shelf because I like to have them standing and displayed in various poses.

Was this a mistake? Should I have left them packaged? It seems that Action Figures aren't really worth large amounts of money any more like some of the really old figures were.

some are, the rare ones but most are getting pretty cheap to buy

They may not be worth alot of money anymore... but I think the sentimental value has stayed the same for most of us.

action-figures will only in the end be worth the most during there fad... Marvel Legends and modern figs go for the most now.. that and like figs in the 70's, 80's and 90's toys don't sell well at all.

Don't ever get into collecting action-figures in hope to sell them one day.. get into it because your heart is into it... and its something you truly enjoy

Unless you collect Transformers. Certain pieces of those can appreciate a lot. With the rarer ones doubling (or more) in value over their MSRP.

depends.. classic optimus and megs from the 80's can fetch a decent penny (like the power ranger megazord from the 90's) but only recent "in" figs fetch the most it seems these days.. till there fad dies... legends, starwars unleashed, etc...

But figs from today......in 20 years will not be worth the kind of money that MOC stuff from 20 years ago is......because there are a lot more figs out today and stuff AND because a lot of people keep them MOC thinking they will be valuable and stuff and in 20 years time they just wont be as rare as there will still be a lot of them available.

exactly.. even 10 years from now the new figs that go for alot will at least be cut in half in price

I have a Harry Potter figure with the name sticker upsidedown on the clamshell, that's worth billions!!!!!!

Actually any G1 Prime and Megatron are worth some nice $$$. Reissues (and thre has been 4 or 5 of them) haven't caused major devaluing of them like they have with others. The Encore Prime I have could get $100 on ebay, Encore Megatron too. Also the TFC Insecticons, Soundwave/Soundblaster, Blitzwing, and Minibots can be worth $100 or more.

However they don't hold a candle to the value of Fortress Maximus. MIB=$1000 easily.

:woot:that's what I'm in it for. Those who collect to make money are pretty screwed.

The things that are worth money down the road are the things that kids- mostly kids, anyway- are buying and opening and bashing around. Since kids on a whole buy a lot less toys- more video games and other such things nowadays, toys are less in demand, and those that are out there are more easily found. Collectors buying things now and hoping for a cash return later are sol. A few things might gain momentum, like the Hasbro Star Wars Galatic heroes and some superhero squad stuff, some lego sets, and other things that are still snapped up by kids and their parents. Action figures? No way. The only way some figures will be worth something is if they suffered extremely piss poor distribution in the first place, which a select few of the more popular Marvel Legends can attest to.
