As I was watching Live Free or Die Hard I began to wonder who could possibly be the greatest action star. Their are so many candidates. You have Bruce Willis (star of Die Hard series), Mel Gibson (Mad Max and Lethal Weapon series), Tom Cruise (Mission: Impossible series), Clint Eastwood (Dirty Harry series), Harrison Ford (Indiana Jones series), Sly Stallone (Rambo series), Arnold Schwarzenegger (Terminator series), and many more!

So who is your favorite? I am leaning towards the Man with no Name himself, Clint Eastwood.

Arnold Schwarzenegger (Terminator, T2: Judgment Day, Predator, Conan)

Jackie Chan

i don't know any action star that will do so much for the sake of action...[YT]http://youtube.com/watch?v=QE-TsIeyVGQ[/YT]

Do Burt Lancaster and Charlton Heston count as 'action stars'?

You're thinking of jet li and bruce lee. Chan's more widely known for his action "does his own stunts" status than for his martial arts prowess though he's damn good, he's primarily an action star, trained from childhood to entertain. He even sings.

Chan is more of a martial arts star than an action star.

sorry...i didn't realize being dragged while holding an umbrella attached to a bus, hanging on a ladder from a helicopter flying high above the city, driving through a hillside village, or being in countless chase scenes didn't qualify Jackie Chan as an action star :whatever:

True, but his films are mostly martial arts movies with comedy and action thrown in.

what genre do you think martial arts falls under? certainly not drama...that's like saying Clint Eastwood is more of a western star than an action star.

Jackie Chan, Arnold Scharzenegger, and Harrison Ford in the '80s. Best action stars ever.

Martial arts is its own genre. Just like action & adventure are two different genres and sci-fi & fantasy are two different genres.

As for westerns...its seperate from action. Eastwood is both a western and action star but he's more action than western since during the last 30 years he has only made like 5 westerns.

Jackie Chan because he does all of his stunts

martial arts, adventure, sci fi/fantasy.....they all fall under "action". his movies are mostly martial arts movies, but he's still an action star. don't try to make it seem as though being a martial arts star doesn't necessarily mean that you're an action star. hell, even jean claude van dam and steven segal were once considered action stars even though most of their action focused on martial arts.

To me it's Sly, Arnold and Bruce but for all time favorite is this guy:

The dude could literally blow away an entire squad of hitmen with just two pistols and a shotgun.

good call Jack...he's done it all. gunplay, vehicle chases, martial arts, pillaging and plundering! hehe
